Flying Through the Big Apple - RoundingThird's New York Jets (M17)

Vikings head coach Sam Freday's life is looking decidedly on the upswing. This could perhaps be summed up by the present humid spring afternoon in Minneapolis. This day found Freday out on the balcony of his high rise apartment, reading the Sports Illustrated boasting him as the best coach of the future. He has a glorious view of the recently completed U.S. Bank Stadium, his team’s luxurious new home. The future of the Vikings' new, dynamic players look bright as well. Though the Vikings had lost in the playoffs to the Seattle Seahawks after only reaching the Divisional Round, but he had established himself as a coach capable of running a stout defense, after years of having notoriously porous defenses in his 4 seasons with the Bowling Green State University Falcons and 2 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. His defense was the key to the Vikings’ success, after his quarterback Teddy Bridgewater missed the middle half of the season after going all out in a game against the Chicago Bears. His absence brought the offense down a notch, emphasizing the importance of a strong defense.

Suddenly, Coach Freday's phone rang. He looked down, and saw it was a 212 area code, symbolizing the city of New York. League headquarters? Possibly. He answered it. It was Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets. He noticed Coach Freday’s improved skill sets, but reminded him that he was still an offensive guru. Coach Freday could tell where this was going, and he didn’t like it one bit. But then the inevitable happened. Mr. Johnson had a radical idea, and the only way it could work was if he got cooperation and support for both parties. Everyone around the NFL knew how strong the Jets’ defense was under the reigns of head coach Todd Bowles in his first year on the job. So Mr. Johnson was thinking. Coach Freday had plenty of experience running a football team, and had a certain way of getting things done. Plus, in his older age, Woody was getting tired of running the day to day operations of the team. Thus, an idea was born. Why not have Freday come in as the new team president? He would oversee everything that had to do with the team over the course of the season. Coach Bowles, GM Mike Maccagnan, and the entire coaching staff would stay in place, while Coach Freday would become an assistant and helper to ownership. Coach Freday was completely blown off course by this offer. The Jets were his hometown team, the team he grew up rooting for. As much as he loved Minnesota, and as excited as he was to move into a new stadium, this was a once in a lifetime offer that only a fool would pass up. He thanked Mr. Johnson for the offer, and graciously accepted. He was so excited he couldn’t sleep that night. He was coming home! The next morning, he hopped on a plane, and was greeted by a limousine at the La Guardia runway. He was escorted to Florham Park, New York, home of the Jets facilities, where his dreams officially came true.

That’s how it all goes down. This season, I’m rolling with my Jets, the first time I’ve ever used my favorite team for a CFM as long as I’ve been playing Madden, which is about 12 years now. I’m so excited for this. I will keep Todd Bowles as head coach, and be playing in Owner Mode, as Sam Freday, the fictional figure that is strongly based on my real person. This isn’t meant to be a rebuilding project, just a man chronicling his journey with his favorite team to anyone that wishes to follow along. Based on the Jets roster, and 2015 record, it should be expected that this not be a rebuilding project. This will be unlike anything I’ve ever done on OS in the past. I strongly feel that I will have more fun playing this CFM than I’ve ever had playing a video game, and I hope to have you share this journey with me, as I celebrate what may very well be my last year posting dynasties on this site, as it is now my senior year of high school.

As always, don't post until I give the all clear!

I appreciate it, man! Thanks for following! You can expect Mo to have a HUGE role on this defense, which IRL should be very good. We'll see how good they are with my custom sliders.

I could've sworn you said the same thing, word for word, in my Vikings chronicles from last year. At any rate, as long as my CAC keeps getting promoted, it'll be a pleasure having you on board here.

Hahah I probably did. I wish I had more time to keep up with everyone's projects on here but needless to say I will be trying to on this one for sure. As far as the CAC goes, we will just have to see how your first year goes!

5 Things to Look for this Jets' Season:

Head Coach Todd Bowles was very successful in his first season, gathering 10 wins, the first time the Jets had reached double digit wins since 2010, when they had 11.

July 1, 2016 --- Despite an excellent season by the New York Jets in 2015, many uncertainties still exist around this team. First off, there is new decision making up top, with 33 year old coaching phenom Sam Freday taking over the day to day operations from aging Owner Woody Johnson. That alone brings a bunch of questions into play, since Freday, while incredibly intelligent, has only ever been a head coach before, and only has 3 full seasons of coaching experience under his belt in the NFL. Doubters and critics claim that at least in the beginning years, as Freday develops broader decision making skills, season ticket sales will plummet, and the team's performance might get stuck in the mud, with little to no improvement from year to year. On the bright side, all of this only makes Head Coach Todd Bowles and his players THAT much more motivated to prove everybody wrong. Here are 5 things to look for on the field this season.

                          1. More emphasis on the passing game:

With last year's leading rusher Chris Ivory now lacing them up in Jacksonville, and QB Ryan Fizpatrick finally re-signed and coming off his best year ever, we can expect a more explosive passing game. Fitzy's chemistry with his star wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker will only get stronger and stronger, as the Fitz and Marshall work desperately hard to reach the playoffs for the first time in their respective careers. The acquisition of veteran HB Matt Forte, the former Chicago Bear, also helps this trend of a more potent passing game, as the 30-year-old has always been a good pass catcher, and makes his hay coming out of the backfield to catch passes. Don't get me wrong; Forte will still carry the rushing load for this team, but he certainly isn't a agile as he was in his first couple years in the league. Nonetheless, a solid power back like himself will work well in this Chan Gailey run offense, as the strength of the team last year was Ivory's power out of the backfield.

                          2. Rookies will step up.

The Jets have an exceptional rookie class that will make an immediate impact. LBs Darron Lee (Ohio State, above) and Jordan Jenkins (Georgia) are expected to be starters on a defensive unit that was ranked either in the top 5 or 10 for basically every category last season. Also added to the defense is CB Juston Burris (NC State). Although Burris joins a loaded defensive backfield and is not expected to see a lot of game action, he is an incredible talent, and some day will be the next Darrelle Revis. Two other dynamic bodies can be found at wide receiver. Again, these guys won't see playing time in 2016, unless there is some kind of god-forsaken injury, but Jalin Marshall (Ohio State) and Charone Peake (Clemson) bring continued hope to the future, or even potentially serve as trade-bait, depending on how the season goes.

                          3. Somebody big will have a career year.

In case you had forgotten, Fitz had a career year last year. Marshall had a career year last year. Oh yeah, and Chris Ivory had a career year. He may be gone, but there's still enough budding star power on this team for someone to shine, whether it be Revis, who's already a perennial Pro Bowler, Mo Wilkerson, or even someone like David Harris. You never know when someone is going to have a breakout season, but watching this team work in offseason and then in OTAs, you get a really good feeling that somebody will do something special.

                          4. The Jets WILL challenge the Patriots for the AFC East title.

Some people, like ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, might think this is blasphemous, but look at the facts. The Jets always play the Pats tough, especially in Foxboro. Since 2011, just 3 of the 8 matchups between the two heated rivals have been decided by more than one possession (8 points). And looking back at 2015, it seems like Todd Bowles knows how to counter the HOF mind of Bill Belichick. The Jets did lose the first meeting of the season 30-23 in October, but got their revenge in an amazing 26-20 win two days after Christmas, a game that went down as one of the greatest in Jets history. Of course, the very next game was one of the worst in Jets history, but we'll get to that. This season, Tom Brady is suspended for the first 4 games. The Jets don't play the Patriots until a Sunday night game on Thanksgiving weekend in the Meadowlands, but they don't need Brady on the sideline to beat the Patriots, as we saw last year. If they can handle the Patriots, they'll have a chance at the division. After all, they only finished 2 games behind New England last year.

Fitzpatrick and Marshall's playoff drought will end.

That's right. We said it. It's bold prediction time. Brandon Marshall is one of the most respected players in the league, due to his openness about his mental health, his humility on TV, on Inside the NFL, and his efforts to fund treatment programs for mental illness with his wife Michi. His one downfall? He's never made the playoffs, not with the Broncos, not with the Bears, and not with the Jets, yet. It's time. He's hungry for January football, and so is Ryan Fitzpatrick, the man, who a few years ago, everybody had written off. But the Jets gave him a chance, and last year, he had a blast, whether it was the smile in the photo above, or the time Nick Mangold surprised him, causing him to go absolutely crazy during an interview with CBS's Tracy Wolfson after a win against the Cowboys. As if their sheer determination isn't enough, add on the heart break of being right on the precipice of the playoffs, and letting it all slip away, like they did last year against the Bills, a week after that amazing win against the Patriots.
