Election Results: Voters Strike Down Measure C
Results from yesterday's election have now been all reported. The City of San Diego had multiple ballot measures that faced contentious fights for approval. The San Diego Chargers mounted a strong fight for a new stadium, along with community action groups like the San Diego Stadium Coalition and Save Our Bolts. Voters stunningly rejected the plan, with only 39.6% of voters agreeing and voting 'Yes' on C.

Measure C would have increased the city's hotel tax by four percent. That increase in revenue would help pay for a downtown convention center and stadium. The plans were released in August with the ballot measure following shortly after. The new stadium would be build in the East Village, pending Tuesday's vote and two-thirds support from voters.

Bad news for the Chargers organization, who knew they were facing an uphill battle. Team chairman Dean Spanos released a statement on Wednesday morning. In it, Spanos stated "We knew it would be difficult, but our family was stunned by the election results."

The statement continued: "San Diego has been home to the Chargers for 55 years. We wanted to continue to be a member of this community and we will continue to search for a way to give our organization a proper home in this city. For now, we are exploring our options and will no longer pursue a downtown stadium development. The citizens have spoken and we will respect their decision."

The Chargers now have a few options. They could consider a major renovation to Qualcomm Stadium, something they had considered 10 years ago. Back then, the team also looked for public funds and were not supported in their efforts. At the time, the team estimated a $500 million dollar renovation, that number would likely be higher now.

Another option is moving the team to Los Angeles, becoming tenants in a new stadium venture with the Rams. They could also move temporarily to the Memorial Coliseum, where the team played their inaugural season in 1961. The team could end their lease with the city on Qualcomm Stadium and potentially move for the 2017 season. Either way, the Chargers must give the NFL an answer on their relocations by the end of January.

Finally, the team could consider another stadium location. Chula Vista and Oceanside have previously been proposed spots for a new stadium. Talks could increase if the Chargers look to remain in the area, but move out of Qualcomm.

The uncertainty remains as the Chargers prepare for a home game against the Miami Dolphins. Tickets remain for Sunday's game, with the team recently advertising ticket plans for the remaining home games for this season. Possibly, the last games in the city of San Diego.

Thanks! I started with Flazkos and adjusted after playing a few exhibition games. Also, I simmed a few games as well, so that helps to adjust the blocking and assisted tackle stats.

Usually, I play 10 games a season and that gets to very realistic stats. I play 15 minute quarters with an accelerated clock to 15 seconds. I usually handle my own subs and do a lot of formation subs as well. That helps to get your third down back on the field more. Like most of my shotgun playbook includes Danny Woodhead. Games take me a little longer because of the tinkering, but then I'm happy with the output.

Very intriguing storylines, I am really interested to see what happens with the team. Relocation is looking more and more like a possibility even though I would like to see the team stay in San Diego.

Re: Maize's Chargers | Finding A Home, Building A Contender

Bolts Use Bye to Rest, Focus on Health
Head Coach Mike McCoy, following the team's loss against Miami, knew the importance of the team's Week 11 bye week. A late season bye can be great for a team with a winning record. For a team like the Chargers, it can hold off on a needed rest and chance to refocus.

The need for a bye is compounded by the team's injury woes to start the season. It was all kicked off with Keenan Allen's season ending injury in the opener. Then the injuries just snowballed from there. Including the Chargers other starting wideout Travis Benjamin, missing multiple games with a knee injury.

Benjamin will return next week for the team's road tilt with Houston. In his absence, Philip Rivers has been forced to use a complimentary of players trying to replace the production of their best two receivers. That included recently signed Vince Mayle and second year, former undrafted player Tyrell Williams.

Beyond injuries, the passing game has been hurt by the struggle of the ground game. That has much to do with the multiple injuries across the offensive line. Left tackle King Dunlap was hurt in Week 3, and is likely to return next week against Houston.

Dunlap's injury was a huge loss, forcing Austin Shepherd to step in and start Shepherd was signed to the team's practice squad, released and then resigned following Dunlap's injury.

Center Matt Slauson went out with a wrist injury in Week 5 and returned against Miami. Max Tuerk split snaps with Chris Watt, Tuerk ultimately starting the last three games that Slauson missed.

All in all, it's been a test to General Manager Tom Telesco's strategy of building the team through the draft. That forces younger players with less experience into tough situations. It's led the team to struggle in the loss of multiple starters.

Telesco and Head Coach Mike McCoy find themselves on the hot seat. In McCoy's fourth season, the team has started to fall behind their opponents in the AFC West. After a playoff appearance in 2013, the team has struggled to a 16-26 record since '13.

The team does have an opportunity to finish strong, although the schedule will be working against them. Starting with the surging Texans (winners of three straight), and five of their final six opponents having a winning record. That includes the franchise's potential final three games in San Diego.

John Spanos Steps Down; Front Office "Restructuring" to Follow
The Chargers recent three-touchdown loss to the Texans meant the team would be enduring another losing season. While there's a chance for a .500 record, the team is one loss from losing their unlikely chance at the postseason. The on-field struggles continue as the Spanos family also considers their franchise's future.

Then came closed door meetings between the Spanos family and certain members of the front office. A change seemed imminent, especially with the bad press and back-to-back disappointing seasons. The first domino to fall was Dean Spanos' son, John Spanos. John will step down as the team's President of Football Operations.

In a press release from the Chargers, the team explained the move as part of a larger restructuring. John Spanos will stay on with the team, but not on the football side. For now, the team won't comment on the future of Tom Telesco and other members of the front office.

The team has hired an outside search firm, Korn Ferry, to aid in finding a new President. It seems they wants to name a President before the start of the offseason, possibly to allow time for someone to decide on other personnel decisions.

This announcement comes while many are waiting for word on the Chargers future in San Diego. A recent article mentioning a massive improvement to Qualcomm did not include any official word from the franchise. The team has until January to announce a decision on Los Angeles, which still seems the most likely spot for the franchise.

I lost the notes from the Carolina game and I am now in the offseason. So I wasn't able to go back. Two more games this season and lots of updates coming before the offseason. Thanks!
