Wow! Talk about a statement game! And by statement, I mean the FBS is on notice that LSU is a serious Natty contender! I know it’s still early, but you said it yourself that you could feel how good this year’s team is. I predict that at the very least, no team will overpower or outclass the Tigers this year. You’ll have the potential to win every game!

Lots of optimism. I feel like Bama is still an A/A+ and LSU a B- in ratings, but we saw how they barely got by Troy.

Wow! I scrolled down and saw the 51 and the 1-0 and I got pretty excited. Definitely expected more out of FSU!

Great performance. Love Rodgers stat line, very James White esque.

Love what a receiving back does to open up the passing game when things are clogged up downfield, that being said hopefully you can get your outside receivers a bit more involved going forward.

Good idea not making any drastic moves with Kerr just yet, you never know when the breakout game is coming.

FSU and Michigan are my two favorite teams but I am definitely rooting for Geezy and the Tigers again!

Excited to see such a dominating start by LSU. Hopefully it carries over to the Michigan game. I'd love to see Coach Geezy take the Tigers to a new years six bowl game, or at least an SEC title game.

          This is the year.

Wild that Bama barely beat Troy. Saban has got to be losing his mind talking about his guys not being focused.

I anticipate Michigan will be a more difficult game. Good luck keeping your boys humble.

            Also, great run-pass balance!
I laughed at the "fancy suits" comment. Those all black-uniforms were definitely on-point and looked great on my TV.

I hated throwing my guy Derek Kerr under the bus, but the dude literally was tired after like the second play of the game! I don't know why, but it wasn't until a couple of days ago that it dawned on me that maybe I should take a look at his stamina rating, and low and behold, it is extremely poor at 65. In fact, he is the lowest rated non-linemen on the team by far in that category:

He has the 7th worse STA rating on the team, and the next closest non-lineman is a deep reserve wide receiver, who is the 16th worse, with a 74 stamina rating.

As I said in the game story, I will give it another week to see if maybe it was just an anomaly, but if it isn't, we may have to turn this guy into just a part-time player, which would really suck as he was the #1 player on my recruiting board all of last season. I virtually never look at stamina ratings when recruiting, but maybe I should start.

LMAO @ Nick Saban losing his mind. It is worth pointing out that in this story's continuity, he's 76 years old right now, so maybe he is starting to lose it a bit upstairs and we'll start to see that stronghold he's had on the SEC West for years now start to fade.

Huge win. Big boost of confidence going back home for the big game against Michigan. Rob threw a pick so if he can can limit that going forward it should be a great season for him and the team.
There is no injury slider in this version of the game, just a YES or NO option. I am seeing a handful of injuries per year on average, some years more than others. Last year, the only significant injury I can recall was to RB Greg Hearn, who got hurt in game 1 and missed virtually all of the season with a torn back muscle. There may have been one or two others sprinkled in there that were minor in nature.

However, I can recall in my Tulane years having as many as 5 guys on the injury report at once. There were games where I was missing at least both my starting QB and RB.

In all, with us being limited to just a 70-man roster, I am happy with the injury-rate overall for simulation purposes.

I was very upset about the interception thrown by Rob Mason. I am taking that very seriously this year. In my last season with Tulane, my QB Jimmy McBride threw 42 touchdowns versus only 10 interceptions in this offensive system we now deploy at LSU, by far my best TD to INT ratio over the course of this almost 20 season dynasty. I hope to duplicate that this year, but it takes a lot of discipline. The key is to not have those bad, multi-interception games, but I also need to get in a handful of no-INT games as well.

I feel very confident coming out of Tallahassee, but if there is one thing I have learned over the course of this Coach Geezy career is that you absolutely must take it one game at a time. The idea of trap games and overconfidence is very real in this video game world it seems; just when you think you have it all figured out, the CPU will put you right back in your place a week later and blow you away.

For what it's worth, Alabama is actually a B+ and LSU is a B- now. Perhaps 76-year old Nick Saban is finally starting to lose his touch! B+ is kind of the new A now though, if you were to grade the teams on a curve. That said, to me, they're ripe for the picking this year, plus we get them at our house.

Here is a full breakdown of all team ratings here in 2028, if you're curious: 2028 NCAA team ratings

James White - that's a nice comparison. I actually have been envisioning a bit of this guy in him lately:

You talk about one of the most underrated careers in the history of the NFL, and this guy should be one in the conversation. Roger Craig's stat lines, especially for a player in the 90s, were incredible.

You're right, a receiving back changes the offense completely. It also helps keep the chains moving and creates a more efficient offense overall in my opinion. Craig was one of the best to do it, and hopefully Scottie Rodgers can continue to bring it this season in that area.

The Michigan game will really tell us a lot about ourselves. That team isn't incredibly stacked, but they're the defending national runner-ups and have solid pieces across the board, including a running back named Patrick Green, who was the nation's top RB recruit four years ago, as well as a pair of stud offensive tackles.

As I mentioned before, I have learned time and time again over the course of this dynasty to never look too far ahead, but if we can somehow knock this team off, watch out!

I gotta say, a 60+ yard scramble is an awesome way to start a contest..yes you fumbled, but that is a huge punch to the gut of the 'Noles, especially with Burnett picking up the pigskin and taking it the extra few yards for the score. The game was essentially over once Castillo threw an interception on the next drive. At that point, Florida State pretty much had to know that it wasn't going to be their night and the Tigers were not going to allow a dramatic come from behind victory this season.

A 42-7 halftime score is just remarkable as well..I wonder if the few students/fans that decided to stay for the balance of the football game were secretly hoping the NCAA would institute some type of a 'Running-Clock' policy for the second half. Also, I love what DC Kelly said - they may not get the accolades yet, but they are a young crew. If they keep preforming like they are, they will definitely be looked at in the same light as the others (like the Tide).

My game-ball has to go to the kicker as well, to come in and hit that clutch field goal late in the game to send the FSU coaching staff into a rage-fit, as well as help your team surpass the 50-point mark..clutch!

I'm surprised the team bus wasn't vandalized after the game due to that play, but it is an awesome way to end the contest and ensure a solid southern rivalry.

Next week will likely be a much more difficult game taking on the Wolverines, but they have been known to not always show up in these big games. If the Tigers can come out like they did this week, it could be another enjoyable game for Coach Geezy.

Solid way to start the season! Looking forward to the Tigers slowly creep back into the Top-25 picture.

Edit: Definitely tuning into that Oregon vs Miami week two battle - that could be an awesome contest! Second to that - I am looking at VaTech to upset the Irish. That could be a sneaky good game as well!
            Incredible feedback here.

Great observation on the Harmon interception. I think you're right. That was essentially the proverbial early "turning point" which completely shifted the tide in our favor, and we never looked back. And yes, starting the game off with a 60+ yard scramble helps as well. I am not going to be shy this year with Mason running the rock.

Glad you liked the kicker bit. I normally don't do stuff like that because I like to keep it as sim as possible, but in the end I just said "Screw it; I wanted to make a statement and get to 50 today." Hopefully the CPU doesn't get retribution on me next week.

I am thinking that if we can get this 'W' against the #5 ranked team, we should immediately jump into the Top 25.

The front portion of the schedule is stacked, as you point out, and we should see a good bit of movement in the polls here in the early going of the season.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply as always...it is always fun reading everyone's thoughts and responding!

Game 2, Year 2 Preview (2028 season): #5 Michigan Wolverines at LSU Tigers

              GAME 2 PREVIEW

              Courtesy

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

              ....................6 1/2....................

2018: A decade ago, led by head coach D. Geezy, former Tulane great Jamie Manning hooked up with former Wave RB RB Bernie Davis on a screen pass for a 78-yard touchdown reception which gave the Green Wave an early 10-0 lead in the 2018 BCS National Championship Game. Geezy's squad would go on to win 30-20, capturing the school's second ever national title.

Last Meeting: Two of the nation's most historic programs, remarkably, LSU and Michigan have never met in football. After agreeing to a two-game scheduling contract last September, Saturday afternoon's game will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools, and next year, the Tigers will travel to Ann Arbor for the first time to take on the Wolverines at The Big House.

On the other hand, 2nd year LSU head coach D. Geezy has faced Michigan twice during his 19-year head coaching career, both coming in the postseason with Tulane. Most recently, Geezy's 24th ranked Green Wave rolled past the 20th ranked Wolverines 47-29 in the Capital One Bowl to wrap up the 2020 season. Just a couple of years seasons prior to that matchup, the two programs squared off in the 2018 BCS National Championship Game, a contest Geezy's Wave won 30-20 in Glendale, giving the veteran head coach his second of the two BCS National Championships currently on his resume.

              Injuries:

              None

              :

10-WR Russell Stephens (sr) - 80 ovr: Torn Achilles, out for the season

              2027 Season Recaps:

2027: The last time the nation saw Michigan was in last season's BCS National Championship Game, a game in which the Wolverines got throttled, falling to Heisman trophy QB Joe Jones and the Texas Longhorns 42-9 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

: Michigan heads into 2028 hoping to get back to the BCS National Championship Game following last season's stunning 42-9 smackdown by Texas in New Orleans. The team will have to do so without superstar RB Greg Lewis (93 ovr), who left Ann Arbor following his junior season, a year in which he accounted for 2,275 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns. Senior RB Patrick Green (91 ovr) takes over for Lewis, and the former #1 high school running back prospect in the nation must have a big year if the Wolverines are to make it back into the title game. "Big Blue" will return 6 starters on offense, including starting QB Doug Henry (82 ovr), as well as 7 starters on defense, which is led by senior star CB Clay Brown (91 ovr), who will also see snaps as a return specialist and perhaps possibly as a wide receiver, as he is listed sixth on Michigan's depth chart at the position.

: For a third straight season, despite the hiring of two-time national champion and six-time SEC champion head coach D. Geezy, LSU finished the year 8-5, a record that includes a very disappointing 51-38 loss to Wisconsin in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day. With senior QB Rob Mason now playing in his fourth and final year as LSU's starting quarterback, the Tigers hope to get out of the abyss of mediocrity and to at least finish a season ranked for the first time since 2022. The team is set to return 9 starters on offense, losing only its starting fullback and center, but will return just 5 starters on defense in 2028.

Dude that stamina issue with Kerr is kinda crazy, that's so low for a good caliber recruit at linebacker. I've never paid any attention to how stamina progression works, but now I'm curious. I know the awareness rating sometimes fluctuates in season, I wonder if stamina can as well... it would theoretically make sense. Also I realized I have no idea how stamina progression works in the offseason. That would kinda blow if he'll be stuck with 60 something stamina for the rest of his career, but that could be a lesson learned. I'm gonna always be checking that stamina rating in my recruiting from now on haha

Your comment regarding Stamina progression made me curious, so I went and took a look at some of my stamina ratings from last season's game file compared to this season's - progression is extremely minimal. Maybe 1 out of every 5 guys' stamina rating increased by a single point.

Definitely a (harsh) lesson learned and it sucks that it has happened with a prized recruit of mine, but I must admit that I do kind of like the quirkiness of the situation.

I'm anxious to see how he does this next matchup versus Michigan, because we could really use a big game from him today; time to turn the XBOX on and find out!

Game 2, Year 2 (2028 season): #5 Michigan Wolverines at LSU Tigers

                    #5 07 -- 0-1
                    NR 42 -- 2-0

LSU mascot Mike the Tiger bowed down in front of emerging star RB Scottie Rodgers following Rodgers' 26-yard third quarter touchdown run that gave LSU an insurmountable 28-0 third quarter lead.

Sophomore RB Scottie Rodgers accounts for 161 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns as LSU throttles #5 Michigan in a 42-7 stunner | Perhaps suffering from BCS Championship Game loss hangover, "Big Blue" dominated from start to finish | Efficient offensive performance along with another dominant effort by LB Will McNeal and the Tigers 'D' overwhelms Wolverines | Despite impressive 2-0 start, team must remain focused with trip to College Station to take on #13 Texas A&M next on the horizon

Baton Rouge, LA -- Two of America's most historic college football programs, Saturday's game marked the first ever meeting between LSU and Michigan, and for the first time ever, the 5th ranked Wolverines found out just how tough of a venue Tiger Stadium is, as the Tigers absolutely demolished them in a 42-7 rout. LSU RB Scottie Rodgers had a big day on the ground and as a receiver, accounting for 161 total scrimmage yards and three touchdowns as his team led from start to finish. Playing in their first game since last year's disastrous 42-9 BCS National Championship Game loss to Texas, a defeat that ironically featured a similar final score as Saturday's contest in Baton Rouge, the Wolverines went down early and just never found a way to punch the underdog Tigers back.

RB Scottie Rodgers broke through the tackle attempt of four different defenders on this incredible 8-yard first quarter score that gave LSU a 7-0 lead, and they never looked back.

Rodgers' 8-yard touchdown run concluded a 14-play 70-yard drive that lasted nearly half a quarter and gave LSU a 7-0 first quarter lead, and that was just the start of what would be a long day for the Wolverines.

After OLB Will McNeal stopped Michigan star RB Patrick Green in the backfield on a 4th and 2 at the LSU 19-yard line late in the first quarter, an 11-yard second quarter touchdown pass by Tigers senior QB Rob Mason to sophomore WR Brady Carter Jr. concluded a 10-play 52-yard march that, once again, lasted nearly half a quarter, and made the score 14-0.

That sequence was soon followed up by yet another big defensive play by McNeal with the Wolverines driving deep yet again, as he would strip Michigan QB Doug Henry of the football on an option-keeper and DE Jon Jackson recovered, giving LSU the ball back at their own 21-yard line with less than two minutes to go until halftime. A 6-yard touchdown pass from Mason to Rodgers just seconds before the halftime break concluded a 7-play 79-yard possession and put the Tigers up 21-0, as Michigan had no answer for the suddenly ultra-efficient LSU attack. McNeal finished the contest with a game-high 9 tackles, and appears to have picked up right where he left off last season after finishing his freshman year with 85 tackles and 7 sacks.

"We came into this game with two goals in mind - ball control offense, and getting big stops on defense," said LSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly. "We played a bit of a "bend but don't break" style defensively today and we knew they'd get their yards, but guys like Will really stepped their game up.

"Will held it down for us today, and our defensive backs really held it down as well; the whole defense did. We're playing lights-out right now and I could not be prouder of this entire unit; we're only in week two though, so we need to stay hungry."

Fast-forward to the second half, and the story was more of the same.

Following his 2-touchdown pass, 0-interception performance, LSU senior QB Rob Mason celebrated with a fan on the way to the lockeroom at the conclusion of the game. Mason, playing in his final season in Baton Rouge following three straight 8-5 campaigns, finished the game 10 of 20 for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns before being replaced in the second half.
A 5-play 79-yard march to open up the third quarter concluded with a 26-yard touchdown burst by Rodgers, who finished the game with 114 rushing yards on 18 carries and 2 touchdowns to go along with his 4 receptions for 47 yards and the earlier receiving touchdown. His last touchdown of the day made the score 28-0, and newcomer JUCO transfer RB D.J. Weaver's 78-yard touchdown run essentially put the game out of reach at 35-0. Weaver finished the game with 117 rushing yards, and he leads LSU with 186 rushing yards thus far in 2028.

"We're really clicking on all cylinders here offensively," said Tigers first year offensive coordinator Bryce Allen. "Our guys have picked up the system very quickly, and everything is working right now. Our only regret is that with these blowouts, our starters are spending almost entire halves sitting on the bench, so their stats suffer, but I guess that's a great problem to have."

LSU (2-0) will travel next week to College Station to face #13 Texas A&M (1-0). The Aggies are coming off of a 31-24 win over #10 Penn St. this past weekend. Tigers head coach D. Geezy knows that his team must continue to bring their 'A' game if they want their early success to continue.

"I'm in my 19th season as a head coach, and I know very well by now that quick success or too much success early can quickly lead to failure if you get too relaxed," said Geezy, who spent his first 17 seasons coaching at LSU rival school Tulane. "We are really going to put a strong emphasis of not only continuing to do the things we need to do to prepare for these games, but perhaps we will even enhance it as we get deeper into the season, as the games will just get tougher and tougher from here on out. The team we face next week runs a fast-paced spread offense and has one of if not the fastest receiver in the country in Vince Sampson (81 ovr., 98 spd), and he's probably only rivaled in that category by his teammate Brandon Merrick (72 ovr., 98 spd). So we have another big test ahead of us next week that we must be ready for.

"That said, today was a big step for our program and a very proud moment for Tiger Nation, and hopefully there's more performances like this to come."

Dual-threat Scottie Rodgers' big performance was enough to win him Player of the Game honors.

LSU WR Glen Walker exchanged pleasantries with Michigan superstar CB Clay Brown early in the contest.

RB Scottie Rodgers somehow broke through this tackle attempt by multiple Wolverines defenders on his way to a spectacular 8-yard touchdown that made the score 7-0 and set the tone early.

With Michigan threatening in Tigers territory, sophomore OLB Will McNeal stripped QB Doug Henry of the football and DE Jon Jackson recovered, giving LSU the ball back while already up 14-0.

Pic 1 of 2: Following McNeal's forced fumble, QB Rob Mason led a 7-play 79-yard drive and threw a pass attempt in the direction of Rodgers.

Pic 2 of 2: Rodgers, who two plays prior lined up at receiver and caught a 30-yard reception on a 4th and 7, this time ran a flat-route out of the backfield and hauled in the football for a 6-yard touchdown that gave LSU a commanding 21-0 lead with just :07 to go until halftime.

Watching their team take on Michigan for the first time ever in football, the sellout crowd at Tiger Stadium went bonkers as they watched their team head to the halftime locker room with a huge scoreboard advantage versus the nation's #5 ranked team.

First year JUCO transfer D.J. Weaver has carved out an early niche as LSU's "closer" at running back, and so far he leads all Tigers ball carriers with 186 rushing yards. His 78-yard third quarter touchdown was the first score of his career in Baton Rouge and increased his team's lead to 35-0.

Henry finished with just 149 passing yards, over half of it coming during the game's final two minutes, as LSU's pass defense held strong for a second straight week.

Pic 1 of 3: The icing on the cake Saturday afternoon came when Henry was hit viciously by DT Travis Fellows while attempting an option pitch to his star RB Patrick Green.

Pic 2 of 3: LSU defender Mario Reed, who moved from the Star position to free safety this past off-season, was able to successfully step in front of the ill-advised pitch attempt and pick the ball off out of the air.

Pic 3 of 3: After "intercepting" the pitch (officially logged as a fumble recovery), Reed took the ball 30-yards for a touchdown that made the score 42-0, much to the chagrin of Green. Green, a former #1 high school running back prospect in America, finished with 147 rushing yards, though a large chunk of it came in the game's final minutes, including a 47-yard run with under a minute remaining.

Mason and Jackson, along with their teammates celebrated on the field after LSU pulled off one of the school's biggest upsets in recent memory.

Michigan senior star LB Matt Stephens held his head in shame as he walked off of the field. After losing last year's BCS National Championship Game to Texas 42-9, Stephens in the Wolverines' chances at another title opportunity may have all but been dashed following Saturday afternoon's beatdown by a very similar score, leaving many to wonder if Big Blue is suffering from a championship game loss hangover.

Coach Geezy's looking for another ring this season!
                        How did Kerr play?

Glad to see Coach Geezy starting off in 2028 strong. I've been anxiously awaiting this all week!

Mason is off to a strong start. No turnovers in this game. Scottie Rogers is also looking like a beast.

The defense, at least to me, also seeks like it may be opportunistic. Bend but don't break.....and also creating enough turnovers to be dangerous. Those types of the defenses are some of the most fun to watch.

So.... how early in the game did the Tiger faithful start the over rated chant? What a beating lol

Wow what a beating. Next game @ A&M seems like a classic CFB trap game. Lets hope they can avoid that!

It's way too early to be talking rings!

Kerr did decent. He finished with 3 solo tackles. He was in and out of the lineup a good bit with the fatigue issue though, but it didn't seem as bad as game 1.

It's something I will have to continue to monitor here in the early-going.

I mentioned this in an off-season article, but I believe that if we do not turn the ball over, we can win every single game we play in. Ball control will be key this season, and Rob is off to a great start in that category.

Run the ball + don't turn the ball over + collect turnovers on defense = success in this game, at any level, in real life or in the virtual world.

Scottie Rodgers is starting to turn into a stud and as you'll see in a moment, is starting to get recognized.

He hasn't cracked the Heisman Top 5 list yet, but I am thinking he's a big game or two away from doing so.

I heard the chants in the fourth quarter actually! I also saw some Michigan fans hitting the exits in the middle of the third quarter.

Our dominance was very unexpected but it felt good, especially coming off of such a poor season (by Coach Geezy's standards).

Agree...Texas A&M is a B- program, just like us, and they have some pieces that can beat us if we don't bring our 'A' game to College Station. They're an unfamiliar opponent, and if that spread no huddle offense of theirs gets rolling with that crowd behind them, it could turn into a long day for us quickly if we aren't careful!
