Well as long as his injury isn't serious I don't see him having a issues beating those 2 guy's out. Now the question is can he become a superstar for the Lions or will we see a early end to his career like Sanders and Megatron.

It's going to be interesting to see how his career goes. Detroit drafted him so he's on a four year deal. I think Stafford is locked up for three of those years. Is his career arc Tyrod Taylor or Aaron Rodgers or???

I think getting picked in the later part of the draft is a blessing. Sucks he went to the Lions because lets face it they will never be a winner. Tyrod Taylor is actually probably a perfect example. Got drafted Ravens liked him as a QB, most other teams thought he should move to WR. He finally gets a chance to start and shows he can actually be a serviceable starter in the league but just needs the right fit and system.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions are dealing with quarterback injuries that leave them with one healthy quarterback -- 5th round rookie Colby Porter Jr. -- leading into their Thanksgiving Day game against Chicago.

Starter Matthew Stafford has been out since Nov. 10 with broken bones in his back, and coach Matt Patricia said his status hasn't changed.

Stafford's replacement, Jeff Driskel, showed up on Monday's injury report with a hamstring injury. Driskel was limited in Tuesday's practice.

"It's definitely gotten better each and every day," Driskel said of his hamstring. "That's just a testament to the guys in the training room -- all of those guys that are here all hours of the day working with us."

When asked whether he anticipated Driskel being available against the Bears on Thursday, Patricia said, "It really is day-by-day for us because of [the] short week."

Patricia said that if the Lions were going through a full practice instead of a walk-through Tuesday, he's not sure how much Driskel would have been able to do. He said he can stay in the pocket without a problem, but the Lions would have to try to "build around" other issues.

"He's pretty sore still today," Patricia said. "We were talking about it this morning, but he's walking around better, which is good. Ran a lot on Sunday. Talked to him and just kind of get a gauge for how he feels. Be a good day for us, from that standpoint, from a mental prep to just kind of go through communication and calls.

"Our offense has quite a bit of verbiage with it, too, so just kind of getting the calls out, getting used to some of the calls and making sure that everybody in the huddle hears it correctly."

Patricia said Porter Jr. has "absolutely" received first-team reps this week and that the franchise has worked him in before during certain team periods to help get him acclimated. He said they are preparing as if both Porter Jr. and Driskel would be available.

If the Lions were in a pinch and needed another quarterback, Patricia said the club has "a couple emergencies out there." Tight end Logan Thomas began his NFL career as a quarterback in Arizona after playing the position in college at Virginia Tech.

When asked about the team's interest in free agent Colin Kaepernick, he said again that the club attended his workout earlier this month in Georgia, but he wouldn't expand on the team's interest in him. Detroit had inquired about veteran Josh Johnson, whom the Lions cut in favor of Driskel in September, but Johnson is signed with the XFL and Patricia was "not really sure the details of what happened with that."

The Lions have lost seven of their past eight games, including all three starts Driskel has made at quarterback.

QB COLBY PORTER JR RUNS FOR A FIRST DOWN AGAINST THE BEARS

With Matthew Stafford and backup Jeff Driskel both injured the only healthy QB on the Lions roster coming into this week was fifth round draft pick Colby Porter Jr. The Lions called up undrafted rookie David Blough from their practice squad and moved forward with Porter Jr. as the starter.

Porter Jr. "played ok" according to head coach Matt Patricia's post game press conference.

The mobile rookie finished 13 of 24 passing for 165 yards with a touchdown and an interception and also ran for 55 yards on five attempts. He was sacked twice in the game by Khalil Mack.


KHALIL MACK TAUNTS PORTER JR FOLLOWING A SACK

Overall the Lions offense struggled to get anything going. Porter Jr. was the team's leading rusher with Kerryon Johnson picking up just 36 yards on his ten carries and J.D. McKissic running for nine yards on four attempts.

T.J. Hockenson caught six passes for 75 yards and Porter Jr.'s first touchdown pass while Marvin Jones totaled 52 yards on three receptions.


PORTER JR STANDS IN AND DELIVERS A TD PASS TO HOCKENSON

The Bears were able to do just enough to win as Mitchell Trubisky threw for 209 yards and a score on 20 of 26 passing. Tarik Cohen led all rushers with 66 yards on 17 carries and Taylor Gabriel caught six passes for 72 yards. Trubisky's touchdown pass went to Allen Robinson.

Detroit falls to 3-9 with the loss while Chicago improves to .500 with a 6-6 record.

Patricia says he expects Porter Jr. will start again next week against the Vikings as Driskel has not made much progress in healing up his injury. Driskel is a free agent at the end of this season while Porter Jr. is on a four year rookie deal.

The Lions have four games left this season.

With the Lions on their third starter at quarterback for the final five games of the season hopes and expectations were even lower than usual. Following their Thanksgiving day loss to the Bears Detroit has now won three straight games with Colby Porter Jr. at QB.


PORTER JR SCORES A RUSHING TOUCHDOWN AGAINST THE VIKINGS

They topped the Vikings back in week 14 by a score of 19-14, their first win since week eight. Colby Porter Jr. threw for 133 yards and ran for another 68 plus a touchdown in that game. Kerryon Johnson also ran for 70 yards and a score in that game. The defense picked off Kirk Cousins, who threw for 144 yards and a pair of scores.

The following week the Lions dominated the Buccaneers in Detroit, coming away with a 31-6 win fueled by a pair of touchdown passes along with 116 rushing yards and a pair of touchdown runs by Porter Jr. and a stifling effort from the defense, holding Tampa Bay to just 12 rushing yards.

Two days ago the Lions defeated the Broncos 17-10 in Denver, picking up their third win since Porter Jr. took over and matching the number of wins they had under Stafford prior to his injuries.


PORTER JR. TIPTOES THE SIDELINE AT THE END OF A LONG RUN AGAINST DENVER

Porter Jr. was efficient in the win, completing 10 of 18 pass attempts for 110 yards with a touchdown and an interception and running for 94 yards and a score on nine carries. Once again the defense played well, holding Joe Flacco to a 12 of 26 performance.


PORTER JR. DELIVERS A TD PASS AND CELEBRATES A TD RUN IN A WIN OVER THE BRONCOS

Detroit will wrap up their season against the Packers, who will be playing at full strength as they attempt to hold off the Saints for the 2nd seed in the NFC playoffs.

After that it's an interesting offseason as Coach Patricia attempts to mold the team more to his liking. Rumors of a Stafford exit have been circulating but have been quickly denied by Patricia, Stafford and other people within the organization.

LIONS FALL JUST SHORT IN SEASON ENDING LOSS TO PACKERS

The Lions kept things close with the Packers before a late pick thrown by Colby Porter Jr. allowed Green Bay to run out the clock and secure a 31-28 win.

Porter Jr. threw for 133 yards with a pair of touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. He also ran for 150 yards and a score on nine carries.

After Valdes-Scantling caught a first quarter touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers the Lions tied things up in the second half when Porter Jr. ran for a 26 yard score.

Green Bay then jumped out to a 21-7 lead, scoring on a three yard run by Grant and a Fackrell pick six. Porter Jr. connected with Danny Amendola for a score just before halftime, making it 21-14 Packers at the break.

Mason Crosby hit a 48 yard field goal early in the third and the Lions made the score 24-21 when Kerryon Johnson scored on a 13 yard run a few minutes later.

Detroit took their first lead of the game with just over three minutes to play via a 10 yard Porter Jr. to Golladay touchdown pass.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers retook the lead with just under two minutes left, scoring on a Rodgers to Grant touchdown pass.

With no timeouts the Lions had to move quickly. Porter Jr. picked up a big gain and got out of bounds on their first play but was picked off a couple plays later when he tried to force a pass to Jesse James.


PORTER JR. THROWS A LATE PICK, ALLOWING GREEN BAY TO RUN OUT THE CLOCK

Detroit finishes the season 6-10 and out of the playoffs yet again, though missing Stafford for a big chunk of the season didn't help their cause. Next up for the Lions is trying to put together a roster to get them over the hump and into the playoffs next season.

Not sure those stats help Porter prove he is capable of being the franchises next QB superstar. Seems pretty Tyrod Taylor type #'s, but then again rumor is the Chargers might run with Taylor as their starter next season.

Love the mix of the different types of recaps, using Instagram and things like that to do game recaps is a cool touch. Not a great season, but definitely one that at least showed potential, especially as you pulled the Lions out of a real rut. Hopefully Porter can get a chance somewhere, even if the Lions choose to go back to Stafford!

Actually his running #'s are good i means that's over 10 yds per carry. If he can improve his passing% and TD to INT ratio, he could still have a career at QB,but have to wonder if he could have a better career with a position change.

I recently read that article on David Sills, the QB prodigy that had USC offer him a scholarship when he was 13. I remember that happening but had completely forgot about it over the years, but he has a great story about how he had to finally give up his dream of being a QB and transition to WR where he was one of Will Grier's top targets at West Virginia.
