Francois not worried about slow start to Harrell's 'supposed Heisman campaign'
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles

With a bulky brace on his left elbow, USF junior quarterback Michael Harrell looked far from himself in the Bulls 38-17 win over Notre Dame. The win propelled USF to a top two team in the country but Harrell -- who started the season as a Heisman pick by some -- threw two interceptions in back-to-back full-starts.

Harrell is already up to six interceptions on the season and is averaging just 158.5 yards per game through the hair but even more startling, 55 yards per game on the ground with no rushing touchdowns. Throw in an elbow injury that could potentially linger and it has a lot of people jumping off the Heisman bandwagon.

"He's been fine," said Bulls head coach Malcolm Francois, "Against UCLA, he had a bad read and then a bad throw, that's it. It's really just a handful of throws that he's missed and everyone is freaking about this supposed Heisman campaign that he's supposed to be on. He's been good, he's made plays and he's gotten us out of certain situations. He's going to be fine, I'm worried about a lot of things but Michael [Harrell] isn't one of them."

With a bye week to get healthier, Francois also stated excitement for the rookie receivers. Three of USF's leaders in receptions are true freshman in Andrew Vincent, William Stone and Benji Bright. The other two in the top five are sophomores in Erik Bass and Troy Henry, a good sign for the future.

The Bulls will take on the Iowa State Cyclones in two weeks.

Bulls have historic recruiting weekend, receive twelve -- yes, 12 -- commitments following a busy weekend of visits
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

The University of South Florida hosted twelve recruits over the weekend, including five-star athlete Joel Bass -- the cousin of current Bulls tight end Erik Bass. USF ended the weekend with twelve commitments.

Bass was the biggest one, given that he's the eleventh ranked athlete in the country and at six-foot-three and 220 pounds, provides plenty of flexibility as either a big running back or another big body at receiver. The defensive side is not out of the picture for Bass but he's primarily played offense the last two seasons in high school.

The next highest ranked player is tight end Jacob Dickson, another out of state prospect who USF was able to land. The Bulls went toe-to-toe with some Big Ten elites such as Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin and came away with the six-foot-four tight end that's more of a blocker than receiving threat at this point. With current blocking tight end Joe Wayne set to graduate, Dickson might see the field as a true freshman to pair him with receiving tight end Erik Bass.

The next three commits are all defensive players in safety Ray Thompson and linebackers John Reed and Alex Miller. Thompson is a similar prospect as last cycle's Edgar Thompson -- no relation -- as they are both physical safeties that can pack a punch. Thompson should be able to compete for some playing time as a freshman and fit right in that rotation due to his stoutness against the run.

The rest of the commits are three-stars in T Tanner Patton, corners Ray Hill and Cody Johnson, linebackers Skyler Wilson, Matt Collins and Calvin Franz and safety Malcolm Francois Jr, the son of USF head coach Malcolm Francois.
