I'm very scared of Cincy, who have a QB that's pretty much Henderson with less athleticism. 1500 yards, 18 scores, 5 picks so far to 1510, 18/5 for Henderson. Gonna be tough to deal with, because if we want to win the division we have to beat Cincy and UCF, they both looks very strong so far.

    Haha Slaughter is doing fantastic.

    Thanks for checking in!

Pretty sure Vader is going to need to switch up the offense during the Bye Week and change the Bruins to a Air-Raid or something. We can't let the Beavers have a better record then us.

I'll switch your playbook, not sure if it'll switch the offense or not. PAC-12 rivalry brewing...

Cream of the crop looking like it's separating away in the American. Going to be some exciting games coming up with Cincy and UCF. Henderson is incredible right, going full Johnny Football from his Heisman year it seems like, doing it all both through the air and on the ground. Should be interesting to see what he can do against the best competition that the conference can offer, although I guess the key matchup isn't really what Henderson can do but whether your defense will actually make an appearance, haha.

Herbstreit is rolling with UCLA as his pick. Your offense has outperformed Deuce's so far, #30 vs #47, but it's the Beaver defense that's been an even bigger strength, #6 in the nation, +9 turnover differential. Very interested to see how that goes, if you guys win it, I could see a PAC-12 title run.

Thankfully the division isn't absolute garbage this year haha. It's gonna come down to us, Cincy and UCF unless USF has another strong end to the year like they did last season, going 5-7 after starting 0-7. We really should be 4-1, that Boise loss was only because Scott had the most insane game I've ever seen from a CPU player, and our other loss was to the current #5 team in Nebraska. UCF play us and Cincy back to back actually, so their season comes down to those couple games as long as they take care of business elsewhere.

I think Henderson will keep going nuts, like you said it's just whether the defense will actually show up for more than a possession or two. Greg Moore for Cincy is basically Henderson-lite, similar stats as you'll see in the game preview. They're actually far better rated than we are, on paper the best team in the division so I'm ready for another shootout.

                  Thanks for checking in guys!

                      Y2, G6 Preview - @ Cincinnati

Last Meeting: B.J. Henderson had a great day on the ground with 141 and 3 scores, making up for his 3 picks as the Swarm beat the Bearcats 42-36 in OT.

                      Coach Barkley's Take

This game is B.J. Henderson vs Greg Moore. Moore can run (82 spd, 79 elu), and has a good arm (85 thp, 88 tha). He's a less athletic Henderson, essentially, and the two have put up virtually identical passing stats so far. Lee Gandy at tailback is really good, he's got speed and power. He comes in averaging just under 100 yards a game. Backup Matt Gay is a bruiser who could do some damage too. Will Valentine is tearing it up so far, averaging over 125 yards a game and catching 9 scores. The 6'4, 210 pounder is a burner (96 spd, 95 acc) and has good hands (87 cth). Corey Reddick is a good #2, he'll get open (99 rte).

Front 7 is solid, no superstars though. This secondary though, is where the Bearcats are good. Tommy Roberson (94 spd, 92 mcv, 95 zcv), Jeremiah Montoya (93 spd, 91 mcv, 89 zcv) and Stephen Graham (93 spd, 85 mcv, 84 zcv) are a great trio of corners. Jake Campbell at free safety is very good too, he's rangy (92 spd), can hit (81 tak), and cover (85 zcv). SS Seth Hawthorne isn't amazing, but he's athletic and can hit.

If we want to win the division, this is must-win. Cincy are 5-0 and have been rolling all year. Moore looks like a star, and unless our defense suddenly comes up huge, he's going to go off.

Cincinnati looks like a really solid team. I agree with your take that this will be an epic QB duel with both having such big seasons. Big difference between 4-2 and 3-3. Good luck!

Report by Isaac Robinson - October 12th, 2019

We're for real! Swarm ride surprising defensive performance to 38-24 win over Cincy

Moore tosses trio of picks in the first, huge pick-six in 3rd as his receivers combine to drop 8 balls -- Henderson over 250 total yards, 4 total TD, 0 TO -- Landrum with back to back multi-INT games, including pick-six -- Bryan Young sets school record with 4 sacks

Mark Landrum's pick-six early in the 3rd silenced the home crowd

Cincinnati, OH -- "I said it last year and I'll say it again. We will be back in the title game, and we're going to win it." Those were B.J. Henderson's words after the Swarm's 38-24 defeat of Cincinnati, who were 5-0 coming into this one, with Greg Moore as hot as any QB in the AAC, averaging 300 passing yards a game and throwing 18 scores to just 5 picks. Well, Moore did throw for 290, but he also threw a whopping 4 picks and just 1 score, which came far too late in the 4th quarter to matter.

Moore came out firing after a pair of sacks from Tevita Sapp forced a Westlake State punt, completing passes for 11 and 28 yards to Ryan Clayton and Will Valentine, respectively. He was sacked, but got the yardage back on the ground, before underthrowing a deep ball Valentine's way, and Jeremy Jackson undercut it for the pick, his third of the year. The Swarm only managed a field goal, as aside from a pair of good runs from Henderson and a lucky 38 yard pass to Robert Coley on 3rd and long, they didn't get much going.

Moore had Valentine deep, but didn't have the arm to make the throw

Greg Moore then accomplished something that I don't know if I've ever seen before: He tossed 2 picks on the same drive. First, Nick Watts jumped a pass in the flat and took it back to about the Cincy 40, but Valentine came flying in, put a huge hit on Watts and forced a fumble that the Bearcats recovered. You'd think Moore might be a little more cautious after that, but just 2 plays later, he again tried to force a throw, this time for Ryan Clayton, and Mark Landrum was all over it. Despite all of that, the score after a quarter was 3-0 in the Swarm's favor.

Again, Moore had his man but underthrew him

The teams exchanged punts, and then a few good run plays set up Henderson for a 21 yard touchdown strike to Josh Roach. The rest of the quarter saw remarkably poor offense, as a 33 yard field goal from Cincinnati took this game into the half. 10-3, in what was meant to be an offensive showcase, and Westlake State's bottom-ranked defense was shutting down the Bearcats, led by the interceptions and by 3 sacks from Bryan Young, who ended up setting a new school record with 4 in the game.

Cincy started the 3rd quarter by scoring on a long 11 play drive, with Moore taking it into the endzone himself from 2 yards out to tie up the game. Westlake State then punted, and Cincinnati had a chance to overcome their poor start and take the lead. It was a good start to the drive, with Lee Gandy picking up 18 on the ground, but then Gandy got stuffed for a loss of 2, and on that second and 12, Moore once again tried to force a ball into the flat, and once again, Mark Landrum was there. This time, Landrum took it all the way to the house for a 41 yard pick-six that totally shifted the momentum of this game.

"He was rattled, said Landrum. "We knew this guy doesn't have the strongest arm, likes to try to make plays when there's nothing there, lacks touch on the deep ball. We forced him into mistakes, and we won us a football game."

Moore shook off the pick, making a pair of good throws on second and third down that should have moved the sticks, but they were both dropped, once by Ryan Clayton, once by tight end Carl Pennington, who each dropped 3 balls on the day.

Westlake State took control on the next drive, as B.J. Henderson led his team down the field, eventually scoring himself on a 5 yard option keeper to make it 24-10.

A sack (again courtesy of Young) on 4th and 5 from the Swarm 42 gave the Swarm the football back, and they needed just one play to seal the game: Henderson found Josh Roach on a deep post and made a perfect throw to the endzone for the touchdown. 31-10, Swarm and they never looked back. Cincinnati scored a pair of late touchdowns, but Westlake State scored another anyway, and this one ended 38-24, a huge win for the Swarm.

Young was in the backfield all day

Roach catches the deep ball, his 7th score on the year

Dion Barkley had this to say after the win.

This week, I really felt we turned the corner defensively too, executed better, had a clearer gameplan and we forced some errors. Those picks, Moore forced them because we covered well and he felt pressure. Bryan [Young] coming up with 4 sacks, pressure all day, I think we had 6 as a team, maybe 7. 24 points allowed, that's almost cutting in half what we were giving up coming in.
The Swarm return to Westlake, and will play 2-4 USF next week.
