    Rigged.

(Hell of win against Cincy! Nice to see the defense step up against a good offense and Young just terrorized Moore and the Cincy offensive line. Henderson was pretty dynamic without having to put up too many yards.)

Haha I was actually backing Oregon State to win, still doing really well at 5-1 though, and that UCLA team is around a 95 OVR.

Cincy game went fantastic, honestly Young's play getting constant pressure kind of won us that game, Moore rarely had time in the pocket and as you saw he made some poor throws that we picked off. Henderson handled business as he's done all year, hopefully we keep rolling.

      Thanks for checking in!

        Y2, G7 Preview

Last Meeting: Westlake State lost a 30-29 battle in Tampa as B.J. Henderson threw 4 scores.

Brandon Clark threw for 264 and 2 scores

        Coach Barkley's Take

We've picked off 8 passes in the last 2 games, and I think that trend will stop this week. Brandon Clark doesn't really make mistakes (99 awr), and is extremely accurate (92 tha). He can't run, and he lacks arm strength (84 thp), but he's only throw 1 pick and has completed nearly two-thirds of his passes. Brian Johnson (88 spd, 94 btk, 92 bcv) and Martin Harrell (90 spd, 88 trk, 92 bcv) are similar backs who can both gash defenses. Clark's receiving weapons aren't great, with big-bodied Josh Wyatt being the best of the bunch (92 spd, 91 spc), but Marcus Beach and Brian May both have weaknesses, with Beach lacking hands and May lacking speed. This receiving corps is so thin that third-string QB Ryan Green is listed as their 4th wideout. He's also listed at nickel corner. The offensive line is good, with tackles Brett Sarria (70 spd, 92 str, 88 pbk) and Jeff Tremblay (88 str, 94 pbk) being the highlights. The matchup between Tremblay and Bryan Young should be a good one.

Their front 7 is good, with Jeff Franz (78 spd, 83 str, 91 bsh, 88 fmv) providing a solid pass rush threat while also being a solid run stopper. Trent Kent (85 str) is a solid nose tackle. MLB Joe Huston (81 spd, 85 bsh, 89 pur, 75 zcv) is well-rounded and could wreak havoc. Like I mentioned, this secondary is thin, and starting FS Joseph Vaughn is out injured. We're going to attack them through the air.

Huge win over Cinci! Now another gigantic game in the Stars division vs. USF - at the end of the year, this may be the game that decided the division. Key matchup for me is their DEs and OLBs against your OTs - looks like they have an edge on paper, but that's why they play the game!

Also looking forward to see how coach Dobz's offense does against Penn State!

I think you're confusing South Florida with Central Florida haha. USF are good, but the possible "division title game" is us @ current #8 UCF in week 11-13, I forget the schedule. Every game in this division is huge, which I like because another conference title appearance won't feel cheap, like last year's kind of did to me.

That being said, USF are still very good and could upset us like they did last year.

Dobzinski has done really really well, your 95 overall QB in Bryant helps of course, but the run game's been great too. I'm jealous of all the CAC success while my guy Cohen at Kalispell is 0-7. Definitely going to have to switch up the scheme for him.

            Thanks for checking in man!

Ah crap, yeah was totally looking at UCF in the standings instead of USF. Oops!

It's funny, I didn't get a chance to comment pre-game but that was going to be the one thing I said was the big key will be that their offensive line looks fairly solid, so the big matchup was going to be could you get any pressure through to be able to rattle their QB, and that ended up being the turning point in this game! Great to see another turnover free game from BJ, he's finally turned the corner it looks like and is having that stud year that we knew was in him. Have to make sure you don't have a let down game against a USF team that isn't terrible.

The pressure was really the difference, we haven't gotten consistent pressure all season, we finally do and it gets us 4 picks. Henderson has been insane all season, I hope he doesn't jump ship because we don't have anyone nearly as good, lost out on Cannon (if you saw the recruiting update) to Purdue, and he turned out to have 88 thp, 85 tha. Would have been huge to get him but I'm kind of glad we got out-recruited for challenge's sake. USF game is played, I have the article typed up so I'm gonna do the pics and stat graphics tomorrow or the next day. Came down to the wire.

Report by Isaac Robinson - October 20th, 2019

                    Henderson The Hero

Henderson throws a pair of great passes to put the Swarm ahead with 12 seconds left, throws for 423 yards, 3 scores as Swarm abandon the run -- 358 yards, 3 TD for Clark as TE Landry catches 6 balls for 184 -- Huge Leon Alexander strip sack sparks comeback

B.J. Henderson was all smiles after throwing the go-ahead score with 12 seconds left

Westlake, OH -- B.J. Henderson for Heisman? If the junior ends up in the race, we've got his Heisman moment: a jumping throw traveling roughly roughly 45 yards through the air to an open Xavier Meeks in the endzone, putting Westlake State ahead by 4 with 12 seconds to go.

It looked like Henderson wasn't going to be very good at all, as he started the game 2 for 11 with an interception, just his 5th on the year, as USF led 10-0 after a quarter. The Swarm leaned on the run as Henderson was able to complete a couple passes and find some rhythm before running it in himself from 4 yards out to get his team on the board. USF fired back, as a huge 45 yard catch-and-run from tight end Bobby Landry set up a 12 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Clark to Brian May. Westlake State matched the Bulls, as a 12 play drive ended in Mark Montgomery punching it in from a yard out. Neither team scored again in the half, and it was USF 14, Westlake State 14 through 2.

The Swarm ended up turning it over on downs to start the 3rd, as a questionable decision to go for it on 4th and 1 from the 30 resulted in a turnover on downs. It would have been a 47 yard field goal try, which is at the edge of kicker Joe Romero's range, but it is worth noting that he's barely been used under Barkley, going just 4/6 on field goals this year after going 7/9 last year. USF capitalized, as Clark found Landry for another huge gain, and Martin Harrell found the endzone from 12 yards out, his second score on the day.

Westlake State marched right back down the field, as Henderson shook off his slow start, completing 5 of 7 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown (to Xavier Meeks) on the drive to bring the Swarm back to within 10.

But again, a huge play from Clark to Landry, this time for 34 yards, jumpstarted a drive that ended with Brian May catching his second touchdown. Westlake State got off to a great start on their next possession, with Nic Johnson picking up 26, then Robert Coley picking up 10 to get the Swarm to the USF 40. But on 3rd and short, Mark Montgomery was stuffed as the Bulls blitzed a safety, and Montgomery went down for a loss of 4. 4th and 4 from the 44. Coley broke open, and he'd been reliable all day, with 5 grabs to this point, but the sophomore dropped a wide open grab over the middle, and Westlake State turned it over on downs once again, trailing 31-21. A score would likely end it.

                    Terrible drop from Coley

And it looked like USF would get it. Leon Alexander grabbed a facemask, costing his team 15 yards, then Clark found Harrell for 8, and then Landry for 26, getting the Bulls to the 8 yard line. Brian Johnson picked up 3, and it was 2nd and goal from the 5. But then Alexander made up for his earlier mistake. He found himself unblocked, and sprinted at Clark, who tired to get the ball out but was twisted down, losing the football in the process. It caromed towards USF tackle Brett Sarria, but Sarria didn't even seem to realize, and Swarm DT Evan Cox got to it, scooping it up and getting all the way to the USF 47. Westlake State needed just 7 plays to score, with fullback Bryan Carter punching it in at the goal line. 31-28, USF.

                    This play saved the day

The Bulls started their next drive well, with Clark completing passes for 10 and 16 yards either side of a 12 yard run from Johnson, but the Swarm would force a pair of incompletions, and facing a likely punt from the 38 on 3rd and 10, Clark took a shot to the endzone that Jeremy Jackson picked off.

Then B.J. Henderson took over, completing 6 of 7 passes on a drive that ended with an 18 yard touchdown strike to Nic Johnson, giving the Swarm their first lead of the day. But USF had 1:54 and 3 timeouts to work with, and pass plays of 16 yards, 20 yards, and 20 again, combined with a few checkdowns, had the Bulls facing a 3rd and 5 from the 8. Clark went to his #1 receiver, Josh Wyatt... and he dropped it. 4th and 5, game on the line, very similar to what happened last year in Tampa. Just like last year, Clark made the throw he needed to make, and this time, Wyatt made a great one-handed grab for the touchdown. 38-35, USF. Westlake State had 30 seconds and 3 timeouts, and needed some magic to pull this one out.

Kevin Campbell stepped up, picking up 42 on the kick return to gift the Swarm a short field, starting around their own 41. USF ran Cover 2, and Josh Roach beat it with a corner route on slow-footed safety Brendan Dawson's side of the field. Dawson was way too slow to get over, and Roach made the grab and got out of bounds for a gain of 24. 19 seconds left.

5 wide for Henderson. He dropped back, saw the pocket start to get pushed back, and bailed to his left. He ran a few yards that way, and then made a phenomenal jumping throw about 45 yards downfield to Xavier Meeks, who had gotten open after the play broke down. Touchdown Swarm, 42-38, ballgame. USF had a couple shots at the Hail Mary, but Clark was sacked and then had a throw broken up.

                    WHAT A PLAY.

"We coming! We coming UCF! We got a f--kin' squad now!" yelled Henderson as he ran out onto the field after the Hail Mary was broken up. Dion Barkley echoed the sentiment, saying that the Swarm "are here to stay" and "can hang with anyone in the nation."

It was another game where the defense was opportunistic, forcing a big turnover to shift the tides. USF ran poorly, but Clark completed 25 of 37 passes for 358 yards, 3 scores, with his lone pick coming on a 3rd down heave. The Swarm have now given up 305.3 passing yards per game, 3rd worst in the nation. That could prove to be a problem when playing UCF, who boast an elite QB in Jeff Thomas, who's thrown for 2016 yards, 23 scores, and 8 picks, completing 66% of his throws.

That showdown with the now #4 Knights comes in 2 weeks, but first the Swarm must travel to Philadelphia and take care of business against 2-5 Temple.

                          Y2, G8 Preview - @ Temple

Last Meeting: Westlake State made it 3 wins in a row as B.J. Henderson threw a go-ahead touchdown pass with 23 seconds left to secure a 40-37 win.

Senior wideout Kevin Sykes caught the go-ahead score

                          Coach Barkley's Take

We should win this one. Temple aren't good on offense or defense. QB Jack Davis (84 thp, 86 tha, 83 awr) has underperformed this season, and Temple may look to lean on Brett Mason (86 spd, 91 agi, 92 acc, 91 btk) and Christian High (87 spd, 96 acc, 87 trk, 93 bcv) for the bulk of their offense. Both are very good backs. The offensive line has a couple good pieces in Robert Wise and Dave Carlson, but are otherwise mediocre.

They're not going to give us problems defensively. Adrian Cox (96 spd, 97 mcv) is their only true star on defense, the rest of them are mediocre, barring safety Joey Lewis and linebacker Dan Sullivan. We may look to run it a bit more this week and not put so much on BJ's shoulders. We have to take care of business, because we have UCF next week.

Not sure what else you can say about BJ Henderson - he absolutely deserves to be in the Heisman race after that performance. Remember when he got off to some early struggles in this thread and the backup looked like he was going to take his job?

Wow, Huge come from behind win, and a Monster game from Henderson - he’s really lived up to the billing that was put on him this year! It’d be great for him to get a Heisman look, but perhaps he will be held back for playing at a G5 school.

Love seeing the big win for Coach Dobz and the Illini as well! Would be awesome for him to take advantage of the talent at QB and get a HC job this offseason!

Stan Jones... I considered having him be a grad transfer to Cincy for a storyline, but ended up giving them Greg Moore instead. Henderson was awful in his first couple games, I remember it was a struggle to get him completing 55% for his first few starts. Obviously we lucked out with the manual progression, but he did finish that season strong, nearly getting us an AAC title.

Yeah the strip sack was so clutch. I don't force many fumbles (one issue with this game that sliders can't fix), so to see one, and for us to actually pick it up, was massive. I was so pissed when Coley dropped that wide open 4th and 3, I don't rage but I got pretty close haha. Saw the division hopes slipping away, but we ended up getting it done. Doubt BJ gets Heisman love, the game generally keeps it realistic and gives it to P5 guys only.

Dobzinski is definitely going to be the inaugural CAC COTY. Illinois aren't even that good, 85/84/85 I think, really just Bryant at QB who's a stud. Likely the first CAC to matriculate to head coaching from a coordinator spot, maybe you'll get the Kalispell offer since my guy Cohen has them at 0-8 haha. Worst job security at 6%, but there are a few other teams that could fire their HC.

                                Thanks for checking in guys!
