        CAC Wrapup, 2019

CAC Coach Of The Year: Jon Dobsinski, OC, #2 Illinois

11-2 (9-1), Big Ten Champions, Rose Bowl win, final rank #2

Season Synopsis: The Illini lost just twice all year, to then #1 Georgia in OT and to eventual national champs Ohio State by 7. A scheduling bug left them with just 11 regular season games, which may have cost them a national championship berth. They'll feel hard-done-by, but a Big Ten title and BCS bowl win is better than they've done in years.

POTY: QB Emmanuel Bryant - 3003 pass yards (66%), 31 TD, 7 INT, 821 rush yards (5.2 YPC), 7 TD

        3-9 (3-5), no bowl

Season Synopsis: Amir Cohen came in and brought a team coming off back-to-back 1-11 season to 3-9 after starting 0-8. It's an OK first year, but he'll need to build on 2019 to keep his job.

POTY: QB Hakim Johnson - 3218 pass yards (55%), 25 TD, 5 INT

        5-7 (4-5), no bowl

Season Synopsis: Rodney Sims and Travis Bracken are likely going pro. Smith's defense wasn't terrible, but those 2 carried it. HC spot could be open for Smith soon.

POTY: DE Rodney Sims - 79 tack., 29 TFL, 10.5 sacks, INT, defl., 2 FF

9-5 (7-3), Alamo Bowl loss to Texas

Season Synopsis: A midseason switch to an Air Raid offense revitalized a team that started slowly. Ultimately a disappointing year with all the talent on deck, the Bruins couldn't get it done, losing 3 games by a field goal.

POTY: QB Mike Hayden - 4136 pass yards (62%), 44 TD, 8 INT, 650 rush yards (4.0 YPC), 6 TD

9-4 (5-4), Sun Bowl victory over Virginia Tech, final rank #23

Season Synopsis: This team had gone 2-10 in 2018, so to finish 2019 9-4 and ranked is huge. Slaughter's offense was terrific, and with more talent could have been even better.

        POTY:
HB Darryl Perkins - 1282 rush yards (5.7 YPC), 12 TD, long of 17

Report by Isaac Robinson | January 7th, 2020

7 year, 61M extension for Barkley, OC Kotelnicki moves to Nevada

Westlake, OH -- Westlake State lost offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to Nevada, where he'll take on his first head coaching gig, and moved quickly to ensure that Dion Barkley didn't leave.

The school announced today that Barkley has signed a 7 year, 61 million dollar extension, making him the highest paid AAC coach.

"I'm gonna be here for a long time. Don't worry about it. I'm gonna build this program up into a dynasty," Barkley said.

Westlake State replace Kotelnicki with Memphis OC Joey Jones, who got an up close look at the Swarm's offense in 2019, when they put 62 on Memphis.

But there's bigger news: Nick Saban has retired. After Bama went 9-4 and failed to win a national title for the 7th year in a row, Saban decided to call it quits. His replacement? Tulsa's Major Applewhite, who coached the Golden Hurricane to back-to-back AAC and Big 12 titles in 2018 and 2019. Applewhite will bring his high octane spread offense with him, a big change from Saban's methodical run-first style. Tulsa have hired Bryant Vincent, who's fresh off of an 11-3 season with Troy.

Old Dominion's Bobby Wilder has made the jump to the Power 5, replacing Tennessee's Butch Jones, who lands at Kentucky as their new OC. Joining him in the SEC is Shannon Dawson from North Texas, replacing Bob DeBesse at South Carolina after a 1-11 campaign.

In the American, Tulane canned Frank Wilson after a 1-11 season, and signed Scottie Slaughter, the OC responsible for Oregon State's offensive turnaround after going 2-10. Needless to say, the Green Wave will be hoping to recreate that in 2020. UConn have hired former DC Gene Chizik from UNC to replace Phillip Montgomery, who's headed to Colorado State in a bit of a lateral move after their former coach, Matt Lubick, took the job at Wisconsin. Lastly, Deuce Vader, who's implementation of an Air Raid at UCLA saved their season, has been hired as the new head coach at Memphis.

              HE'S STAYING!

B.J. Henderson flexes after scoring a TD

This is gonna be fun. B.J. Henderson announced on Twitter early this morning that he intends on staying for his senior season.

"We have unfinished business in Westlake. I love this school, the fans, my teammates and my coaches. I'm staying, and I intend on keeping my promise of delivering a conference title to this team," Henderson wrote, captioning a picture of him and his now former backup Stan Jones celebrating after the Swarm's bowl win.

Westlake State lose 17 players, with 8 being starters. Bryan Young, Adam Jackson, and Shannon Wilkinson will all hope to be drafted late, but are all currently projected to go undrafted. The lone transfer is Kevin Campbell, who has already left the school, but has yet to announce his next destination.

A full list of players leaving can be found below.

Author's Note: Any change in rating is due to me putting injury ratings of top departing players back to where they were before edits, and for K Joe Romero, it's because the kicking system I use requires each kicker's accuracy to be set to 53 every year.

                No draftees for Westlake State.

Kalispell TE Jack Wynn (96 OVR) went in the 3rd.

Illinois RE Sam Schmidt (93 OVR) went in the 4th.

Illinois CB Karl Gunn (90 OVR) went in the 6th.

UCLA had 7 players drafted: WR Robert Cook (1st), DT Demarcus Hester (1st), TE Cory Mason (2nd), MLB Joe Sykes (2nd), MLB Cedric Burnette (3rd), WR Terrance Kelly (3rd), and LG Steven Atkins (4th).

Texas had a whopping 15 draftees. Only went 10-3.

Heisman winner Kurt Alfred only went in the 4th, despite his insane stats and 4-year starter pedigree.

We'll be accepting 2 transfers going into 2020. FB Eugene Wilson (FR, 60 OVR, blocking), is coming in from Kent State, and LG Jeff Thompson (rFR, 62 OVR, balanced) is coming in from Western Kentucky.

I am excited to see what Vader can do with Memphis. I actually use to run with Memphis back in the day when they had DeAngelo Williams.

                        Hi all,

Here's the full list of position changes.

Incoming T Terrence O'Neal is shifting inside to LG. It'll take him some time to learn the position.

Incoming OLB Stephen Parham is going to switch to RE, he has the makings of a good speed rusher.

Lastly, incoming CB Ibrahim Dudley is moving to FS, and he's taking very well to the position.

Glad to see Henderson come back for his senior season - he absolutely should be in the preseason Heisman Watch after going for 4,000/1,000 last year. Great way to close it out too with the win over Miami! Any reason for the black and yellow alternate unis for that game?

                            2020 Grad Transfer QBs

Couldn't do many this year, I'm shackled by the constraints of the game, editor doesn't work for me as I always complain.

Maurice Harris, 88 OVR: MTSU --> Tulsa

Rian Milton is gone, and Tulsa needed a QB for true freshman Matt Byrd (77 OVR) to develop behind.

Eric Watson, 93 OVR: LSU --> Maryland

Eric Thompson (99 OVR) has broken out, so Watson, who lost the job last year following an injury, takes his talents to the ACC.

Reginald Bratton II, 85 OVR: West Virginia --> Fresno State

Fresno State will look to build on their excellent 2019 campaign by bringing in Bratton, who's stuck behind a senior and another junior at WVU. Bratton's top target is 6'5 speedster Joe Kelly (84 OVR), who's looking for a breakout senior year after catching just 27 balls as a junior.

This is the year to go for a Heisman - I won't have another Henderson for a while, especially with how slow I anticipate I'll be moving with this thing.

I chose the black and yellow alts because in my last Swarm dynasty a couple years ago, I broke them out for our first bowl game, a close 35-33 win over a good Iowa team. That dynasty fell by the wayside midway into its 4th season, this time I'm going slow and steady.

Preseason Newsflash: Position battles, dismissals, and Kevin Campbell's new home!

The 2020 college football season is inching closer and closer, and Westlake State's preparations are in full swing. Here's what's happening.

                                Position Battles

WR2: Josh Roach seems to have taken a step back. The senior came into camp at 223 pounds, up from 210 last year, and he looks slower and not as crisp on his routes. He caught 68 balls for 1000 yards and 10 scores last year, and with B.J. Henderson returning, the Swarm's passing attack should once again be elite.

Roach will be in the mix here, but both Eric Monroe and Robert Coley have looked better than he has so far, and they're both juniors with another year left after 2020. Monroe missed most of 2019 with a torn pec, and finished with just 11 grabs for 111 yards, whereas Coley had a breakout year, filling the void and catching 48 passes for 826 yards and 5 scores.

Both men seem to have taken the competition in stride, working out together over the offseason and often staying late with a quarterback to run some extra routes.

WR4: Roach likely won't be the #2 or even #3 option, but he'll be in the mix for that 4th spot, which was occupied by Nic Johnson last year. Johnson was dependable, but the sophomore is slower that even an out of shape Roach.

FS: True freshman Ibrahim Dudley will battle Arthur Rogers for Shannon Wilkinson's old position. Dudley has looked even better than expected after enrolling a semester early, and has scrimmaged with the first team on several occasions. Dudley is a better tackler, has better ball skills and better instincts than Rogers, but Rogers brings 4.3 speed to the table whereas Dudley is more of a 4.5-4.6 guy. Expect both players to see reps this year.

Campbell enrolling at FAU, will sit out a year

Kevin Campbell has found a new home. The 6'1 senior will move to FAU and attempt to play QB, as he'll have a shot at the job after Julian Dotson graduates.

Dion Barkley declined to comment on the possibility of the Swarm playing against Campbell.

Pitts, Johnson dismissed after brawl at frat house

True freshman corner Paul Pitts and redshirt sophomore linebacker Daniel Johnson have both been dismissed after a bloody brawl at a frat house just off campus resulted in numerous arrests and 4 students being hospitalized. Pitts faces a count of aggravated assault after allegedly hitting a man over the head with a bottle, and Johnson faces DUI and reckless endangerment charges after crashing into a nearby front yard trying to escape the scene before police showed up.

"No tolerance for this kind of thing here," said Dion Barkley. "I wish these young men all the best, but we don't allow this in my program."
