His ability to make plays with his legs is really key, gives you that versatility that you don't necessarily see with Jones. Hope he can keep it up! Also want to echo the comments that were said regarding your formatting for the recruiting updates, I really like the little blurb style that you were doing! Definitely does a great job giving a little back story for the players and making them seem really 3D, I like it!
Glad to see you in the thread man, I'm anxiously awaiting the start of your Pitt team's CFP campaign haha. It was a huge performance from Henderson, he made some impressive plays that I wish I could show, but I don't and likely never will do game videos, I would guess (if I'm wrong let me know) it takes 5-6 hours to edit and do a voiceover, then do the weekly round ups you do. Anyway yeah, BJ played great and will start against Tulane, he'll be on a tight leash though but I think I've figured out the kind of offense that's gonna work for us. I still want to get more vertical passing going, but our line sucks so that's hard to do.

Glad you like the recruiting format, I adopted your scouting rules so I don't have precise ratings like I did in previous dynasties. Wanted to make it more like a real life scouting report, I took a lot from the way 247 does their reports. I wish the game did HS/JUCO stats like they used to on the PS2 games if I'm not mistaken.

    Thanks for checking in bro!

      Y1, G5 - vs Tulane

Report by Isaac Robinson - September 24th, 2018

      Swarm fall 33-16

Solid showing from Henderson as Swarm defense crumbles in second half -- Offensive line woes as Henderson sacked 5 times -- Mark Montgomery leaves in an ambulance with scary back injury

Tulane QB Joe Parham went over 1000 passing yards on the year with 246 on the day

Westlake, OH -- Westlake State are now 1-4 on the season after yet another frustrating loss, this time at the hands of Tulane. B.J. Henderson got the start and put together a solid showing, throwing for 196 yards on 15/27 passing, and tacking on 60 rushing yards. The negatives were his 3 picks, but we'll get to those later on.

Neither team did much in the first half, as Westlake State led 7-6. Joe Parham-led Tulane didn't threaten much, either, as their 2 red zone trips ended in a field goal and a pick.

The Green Wave opened the second half with a field goal to go up 9-7, before Henderson led a long drive that ended in a Johnny Nash rushing score at the goal line. The Swarm went for 2 but did not get it and took a 13-9 lead. Tulane would then score 10 unanswered points, as first a facemask on the kickoff return allowed the Green Wave to start at their own 40, then a 20 yard pass to Lorenzo Pettit followed up by a huge 22 yard run from Matt Shelby set the Green Wave up at the goal line, where Shelby would punch it in.

Great grab here from Josh Roach to set up Nash's TD

Westlake State would turn it over, as a false start forced a 3rd and 10, and B.J. Henderson forced the ball to a well-covered Robert Coley, and it was picked. Tulane would be held to a field goal, and it was 19-13 heading to the 4th.

Henderson faced a 3rd and 13 after a dropped deep ball and a botched screen play, but he managed to evade pressure to find Coley for a huge 24 yard conversion. The drive kept going, with the Swarm reaching the Tulane 11, but a pair of sacks would end up forcing them all the way back to the 24, and they would settle for a field goal.

Tulane rode the legs of Shelby and his backup, the speedy Chris Duckett, to a TD that made it 26-16. The Swarm must have felt the pressure to score, because Dion Barkley dialed up a shot play. Henderson would put up a ball for a double-covered Jon Smith, who couldn't make the play and it was picked. Tulane needed just 3 plays to score, as Duckett would get the ball on a sweep and hit the edge for a 33 yard score.

Henderson threw another pick on the very next play, but this time he hit junior Travis Vaughn right in the hands, but the junior dropped it and it was scooped up off the turf for the INT, the final nail in the coffin. Tulane ended up missing a 50 yard field goal, and Henderson would find Kevin Sykes for 37 on the game's penultimate play, but then he took a sack and time expired.

      Terrible drop from Vaughn here

Henderson was frustrated after the game, tossing his helmet to an equipment manager and shoving off reporters who looked to talk to him as he practically sprinted to the locker room.

He then refused to speak much after the game, answering questions about both Vaughn's drop and his lackluster offensive line with this passive-aggressive comment:

Head Coach Dion Barkley was also quiet postgame:

Good first half defensively. But we can't fold like that, we can't make the mistakes we made. The 4th especially was bad.
To rub salt in the wound, junior running back Mark Montgomery left the game strapped to a backboard after taking a hard shot to the back on a tackle. He was unable to stand back up, and he was taken to the hospital and reportedly diagnosed with broken lumbar vertebrae. This is a very serious injury that will certainly end his season, and maybe his career.

Westlake State play the second of 3 consecutive home games next week, as the Swarm host a 1-3 Cincinnati team looking for their first win in conference play.

        Y1, G6 Preview - vs Cincinnati

        Coach Barkley's Take

We have to take advantage of this struggling team. Nick Powell has been awful at QB and their defense hasn't picked off a pass all year. They have a surefire pro in Ryan Smith, but he's underperformed along with the rest of this defense. They're missing Zach Thompson at safety, which is huge for us.

Kenneth Lowe and Lee Gandy are good backs, but unless Powell plays well, we'll be able to key in on them. Bottom line, we have to win this game. We need (B.J. Henderson in particular) to get in rhythm.

Tough way to lose again against Tulane... you seem to have the market cornered on heartbreaking ways to find a way to lose! This time it was the turnovers really burying you, three picks basically in the span of the final quarter and a half or so is really gonna derail your chances of both taking the lead and then having any kind of comeback. Hopefully Henderson reigns that back in or Jones will be breathing down his neck, but I guess these are the lumps you take with a young QB.

Cincy doesn't look terribly imposing, not a ton of speed and no real studs other than that RE, so I think you should at least be competitive in this one and have a chance to come away with a win.

It was rough. Henderson played well but got let down by poor protection and a couple big drops, plus was very unlucky not to at least get credit for a passing TD as he found a man with a great ball on a corner route, but it was caught at the 1. Then he started pressing and got picked twice, and the last one was a dime of a throw that was dropped. Jones will definitely get a shot if Henderson doesn't pick it up though, ultimately he couldn't get it done against Tulane.

Cincy doesn't look great, and they're playing really badly, we're losing close games whereas they've been shut out once already and are scoring 18 a game. Of course, I've had underperforming CPU teams come out swinging before, so we will definitely have to be good. I knew this year would be rough, we just don't have a lot of talent, which I'm working on in recruiting but even so, it'll be a few seasons before we're competing in the AAC.

Thanks for checking in my guy!

Tough loss vs. Tulane. Hopefully you can get back on track vs. a struggling cincy team. Looks like they're moderately talented, but struggling right now.

Thanks man! I modeled it on the way 247 grades guys, I don't do full scouting so I can't use ratings.

Thanks for the comments guys! Going to play the Tulane game today.
That is a great idea! I think it all looks very clean and makes it look like a legit early look at a scouting report! Did you find those headshot models somewhere by the way because honestly, that ties it all together!

Ooof 3 interceptions are tough but the ground game looked great especially from Thompson. Maybe we see him more versus Cincinnati. This would be the time to take advantage of them as they have a few key members out with injuries. Good luck!

We gotta get a dub. I want 4 on the year at the very least, we aren't good at stopping the run so that does make it hard to get teams off the field. Hopefully the offense gets it done early on and it doesn't come down to the wire.

Thanks man. The headshots are pics I've used in prior dynasties, back when teambuilder was still up I'd get them from there. If you needed them, I could send you the ones I have.

Thanks for checking in guys! Cincy game up tomorrow most likely.

Yo that would be great! I could really enhance some aspects of my design with those headsets. Man i wish Teambuilder was still up. I tried taking pictures of the recruits but it doesn't seem to turn out to well tbh.

                            Y1, G5 - vs Tulane

Report by Isaac Robinson - October 7th, 2018

Swarm improve to 2-4, taking down struggling Cincy in OT thriller

381 yards, 4 scores for Henderson, but also 3 turnovers -- Big plays save the day -- Still a lot of question marks for this team

B.J. Henderson had a career day, even with his 3 turnovers

Westlake, OH -- "F--k yeah!", yelled Dion Barkley as Johnny Nash ran in a 2 yard TD to walk the Swarm off in OT. "Let's go!" The rookie head coach was all smiles as he celebrated his team's OT triumph over now 1-4 Cincinnati.

This game got off to a flying start, as B.J. Henderson had 3 rushing scores and a passing score in just one half of play as Westlake State had by far their best offensive half of the season, putting up 28 points. Not to be outdone, Nick Powell and Cincinnati scored 27 points of their own, with Powell carving up the Swarm for 199 passing yards and a score, completing 16 of 18 passes through 2 quarters.

There were big plays everywhere, as Cincy started with a bang, scoring in just 3 plays, with tailback Lee Gandy finding a crease and finding the endzone from 32 yards out to open the scoring. A 9 play drive saw the Swarm equalize, with Henderson running one in from 14 yards out.

                            Gandy gets into the endzone

The Bearcats kicked a field goal, and then Westlake State turned nothing to something, as a sputtering drive ended with Henderson running in another score, this time scrambling to get in from 35 yards out on a 3rd and 8. Cincy scored again, forced a punt and then kicked a field goal, before Henderson (and James Thompson) sliced through the defense to the tune of 10 yards a play for another quick score. 21-20, Swarm. But then the Bearcats would score in just 2 plays, as Nick Powell found Cam Reddick for 18, then his main man Will Valentine took a curl route 52 yards to the house thanks to a huge stiff arm after the catch.

Danny Wilson got demolished by Valentine here

B.J. Henderson would throw a questionable pick, the first of 3 turnovers that blighted his career day, on a corner route. It was reviewed, but upheld. Check out the picture below, this one was questionable for sure.

                            Definitely looked out of bounds

Anyway, Westlake State held firm, sacking Powell to force a 3rd and long where he couldn't complete the pass into tight coverage. The punt from Eric Odom was inch perfect, and the Swarm would start at their own 1.

James Thompson picked up 7, then 6, and then Henderson found Jon Smith for 10 on a slant. 2 plays later with just 21 seconds to go in the half, Smith caught a pass on a 15 yard in route, and with 3 defenders closing in on him, broke a tackle, put his foot in the ground and went the other way, gaining 63 yards and setting the Swarm up with a 1st and goal. 2 plays later, he capped the drive with a great grab over the middle for a TD.

Smith made a beautiful grab on this slant route

At the half, Westlake State led 28-27, and everyone was expecting a basketball score. The Swarm got the ball to start the 3rd, and the drive was going well until Josh Roach dropped a wide open deep ball that would have gone for a score, then an option mishap saw B.J. Henderson pitch the ball to absolutely no one, and Cincinnati recovered. But again, the Swarm defense came up big and held the Bearcats to 3 points.

Westlake State scored, with Roach making up for his drop with a huge 39 yard catch and run to set up Johnny Nash for a goal line TD. Westlake State went for 2 and converted, a decision that proved to be absolutely crucial.

The offenses were shaky the rest of the way, as the Swarm wouldn't score again until OT, and the Bearcats' only points came from 2 field goals. Westlake State nearly blew it, as with 2 minutes to go, Henderson was pressured and threw a pick on a 3rd and long near midfield. Cincinnati ball at the 49. But sophomore corner Mark Landrum put the team on his back, taking the ball right back as he picked off Powell to save the game. The Swarm would go 3 and out, but Cincinnati couldn't get anything going either.

TOP: Not sure who Henderson was looking for. BOTTOM: Mark Landrum saves the game.

Overtime. Nick Powell completed a pass to Lee Gandy, then misfired. On the ensuing 3rd and 4, Powell took a shot at the endzone. He overthrew his man, and Shannon Wilkinson came up with his first pick of the season. Westlake State scored in 3 plays, with Nash scoring the walk-off from 2 yards out. Ballgame.

                            Wilkinson's INT

B.J. Henderson was reserved after the game, not sounding too hyped up over his performance.

True freshman tailback Frank Nelson left the game in the 3rd quarter with an upper body injury and would not return, but he is not expected to miss further time.

Senior James Thompson posted 100 yards rushing for the first time this seaspn, as the Swarm ran for 308 as a team. It was a great showing on the ground, with the offensive line opening running lanes all day.

But as good as the line was blocking for the run, they were as bad at protecting B.J. Henderson. The sophomore QB was sacked 3 times, and it would certainly have been more if he wasn't able to escape the rush so well.

Westlake State will remain at home next week, hosting 1-4 UConn. We will see if the offense can continue to put up good numbers.
