Yes, taking the approach of run the ball and work off the play action and letting Shedeur do his thing. I don't expect him to be a gunslinger day 1 so no reason to treat him as such. I also have a tremendous defense in my opinion, so I don't anticipate too many shootouts (for now...).

Had a great game against the Lions with a crazy ending. Post should be up before the weekend.

Lions Survive Late, Edge Giants 28-27 in Thriller

Detroit, MI – The New York Giants controlled the game for nearly four quarters but fell victim to a late Lions surge, losing 28-27 in a heartbreaker at Ford Field. Jared Goff led a stunning game-winning drive, capping off a relentless performance that kept the Lions’ perfect record intact.

The Giants were poised to pull off the upset, holding a 27-18 lead with four minutes remaining. However, Goff’s late-game heroics, combined with a crucial missed opportunity by New York, turned the tide and left the Giants stunned as time expired.

      Giants Dominate Early

New York came out firing, with two lengthy first-half drives that set the tone. Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders connected with Malik Nabers for a touchdown on a red-zone slant, giving the Giants an early lead. Nabers was a key target throughout the first half, finishing with eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game in the second half due to a sprained ankle.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. was a force on the ground, breaking off a 39-yard run and finishing the day with 100 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. The Giants extended their lead late in the second quarter when rookie safety Tyler Nubin intercepted Goff and returned it for a 21-yard pick-six, giving New York a commanding 21-10 halftime lead.

      Goff’s Resilience Fuels Comeback

Despite relentless pressure, including four sacks, Goff refused to back down. He completed 39 of 56 passes for 432 yards and three touchdowns, leading a furious comeback in the final minutes.

With the Lions trailing 27-18, Detroit cut the deficit to six with a field goal. On the ensuing Giants drive, Sanders narrowly missed tight end Theo Johnson on a third-and-long pass that would have sealed the game. Forced to punt, New York gave Goff one last chance with just over two minutes remaining.

Goff orchestrated a near-flawless two-minute drill, eventually finding Amon-Ra St. Brown in the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds left. The Giants managed to reach midfield but failed to connect on a desperation Hail Mary as time expired.

      Postgame Reactions

“We fought hard, but you have to close out games in this league,” said Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll. “It’s frustrating because we had opportunities. We’ll learn from this and get better.”

      Top Performers

      Giants:
Tyrone Tracy Jr.: 20 carries, 100 yards, 2 TD; 3 catches, 19 yards
Malik Nabers: 8 catches, 96 yards, 1 TD
Bobby Okereke: 7 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 TFL

      Lions:
      Jared Goff: 39/56, 432 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
Jahmyr Gibbs: 10 carries, 49 yards; 11 catches, 69 yards
Velus Jones Jr.: 7 catches, 119 yards

      Looking Ahead

The Giants drop to 2-1 but showed once again that they can compete with top-tier teams. Sanders continues to impress as a game manager, but execution in key moments remains a work in progress. New York will look to rebound in a divisional matchup against the Dallas Cowboys next week at MetLife Stadium.

The Lions, now 3-0, will try to maintain their momentum as they continue their quest for NFC supremacy.

Week 4 Preview: Giants Host Cowboys in NFC East Clash

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on FOX

East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants (2-1) return home to MetLife Stadium for a divisional showdown against the Dallas Cowboys (2-1) in what promises to be a battle of the league’s top two rushing attacks. Both teams have leaned heavily on their ground game through the first three weeks, setting the stage for a physical, old-school NFC East matchup.

The Cowboys, fresh off a dominant 45-13 win over the Denver Broncos, have been nearly unstoppable on the ground behind Cam Akers, who leads the NFL in rushing and is averaging an incredible 6.9 yards per carry. Meanwhile, the Giants, led by Tyrone Tracy Jr. and rookie Antario Daniels, boast the league’s second-ranked rushing attack and will look to control the tempo at home.

With two teams that want to impose their will in the trenches, the battle at the line of scrimmage will dictate the outcome of this pivotal early-season contest.

Giants’ Run Defense Faces Biggest Test Yet

New York enters Week 4 with the NFL’s top-ranked run defense, allowing just 35.3 rushing yards per game. However, that number will be put to the ultimate test against Akers, who has eclipsed 100 rushing yards in every game this season, including a monstrous 191-yard performance last week.

“We know what they want to do,” said Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke. “They’re going to run it right at us, and we have to be ready to match their physicality.”

If the Giants can slow down Akers and force the Cowboys to rely on their struggling passing attack—currently ranked dead last in the NFL at 151.3 yards per game—they’ll have a strong chance to control the game.

              Shedeur Sanders vs. Cowboys’ Defense

Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has yet to make a critical mistake in his young career, efficiently managing the offense while protecting the football. He has yet to throw an interception, a testament to his decision-making under pressure.

Sanders won’t need to carry the offense, but he will have to take advantage of play-action opportunities when they arise. The Cowboys’ defense has been solid, allowing just 20.0 points per game, but their pass defense (ranked 17th) has been vulnerable at times. If Malik Nabers, who is recovering from a sprained ankle, is close to 100%, he could provide the spark the Giants need through the air.

              Key Matchups to Watch

Cam Akers vs. Giants’ Defensive Front: This is the game’s defining matchup. If the Giants can contain Akers and force Dak Prescott into third-and-long situations, they’ll hold a major advantage.

Shedeur Sanders vs. Cowboys’ Pass Rush: Dallas has a strong defensive line, and Sanders will need to continue making quick, smart decisions to keep the offense moving.

Giants’ Offensive Line vs. Micah Parsons: Parsons is a game-wrecker, and if the Giants don’t account for him, he could make life miserable for Sanders. Andrew Thomas and the offensive line must neutralize his impact.

              Team Stats Comparison

              Giants:
              Points Per Game: 28.3 (11th)
Passing Yards Per Game: 190.6 (26th)
Rushing Yards Per Game: 156.3 (2nd)
Points Allowed Per Game: 21.3 (8th)
Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game: 35.3 (1st)

              Cowboys:
              Points Per Game: 31.6 (6th)
Passing Yards Per Game: 151.3 (32nd)
Rushing Yards Per Game: 176.3 (1st)
Points Allowed Per Game: 20.0 (7th)
Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game: 110.3 (14th)

              Game Outlook

This game will likely be decided in the trenches. If the Giants’ dominant run defense can slow down Akers and force Prescott into obvious passing situations, they could grind out a victory. However, if Akers continues his torrid pace and the Cowboys dictate the tempo, New York could struggle to keep up.

Shedeur Sanders will once again be asked to play smart, mistake-free football while relying on the ground game to keep the Cowboys’ offense off the field. If the Giants can sustain long drives and control the clock, they have a real chance to move to 3-1 on the season.

Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET on FOX. Expect a hard-hitting battle with major NFC East implications.

Giants’ Defense Smothers Cowboys, Wins Defensive Battle 13-6

East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants flexed their defensive muscle in a hard-fought 13-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium, dominating in the trenches and shutting down the league’s top rushing attack. The Giants’ defensive front was relentless, sacking Dak Prescott six times and holding Cam Akers to just 56 rushing yards after he had eclipsed 100 yards in each of the Cowboys’ first three games.

Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders continued his streak of mistake-free football, managing the game efficiently and connecting with seven different receivers, a season-high. Sanders’ second-quarter touchdown to Malik Nabers was the only trip to the end zone in a game dictated by strong defensive play.

With the win, the Giants improve to 3-1 and secure their second straight NFC East victory, while Dallas drops to 2-2 after a frustrating offensive performance.

                Game Recap

The Cowboys entered the game as the NFL’s top rushing offense, averaging 176.3 yards per game. The Giants, however, boasted the league’s top-ranked run defense, and the unit more than lived up to its billing. Brian Burns had a career day with four sacks, five tackles for loss, and constant pressure on Prescott, who struggled to find open receivers against a stingy Giants secondary.

Dallas took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Giants responded in the second, putting together a long, methodical drive that ended with Sanders rolling out and finding Nabers across the field for a 22-yard touchdown. The score gave New York a 7-3 lead, one they would not relinquish.

The rest of the game was a defensive battle, with both teams exchanging field goals. Graham Gano added two kicks in the second half, while the Cowboys were held to just one more field goal, unable to generate any big plays against the Giants’ relentless front seven.

                Defensive Domination

The Giants defense controlled the game from start to finish:

Brian Burns led the charge with four sacks and five tackles for loss, routinely beating the Cowboys' offensive line off the edge.
Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux each added a sack, bringing the team total to six.

The Giants' secondary locked down Dallas' receivers, forcing Prescott to check down to his running backs 11 times.

“They couldn’t block us today,” said Burns. “We knew coming in that if we controlled the trenches, we’d control the game.”

Dallas' struggles in the passing game were compounded by their inability to stretch the field. The Giants' defensive backs played tight, physical coverage, and Tae Banks and Greg Newsome II limited the Cowboys’ receivers to minimal separation all afternoon.

With no explosive plays available, Prescott had to settle for check-downs and short gains, making it nearly impossible for Dallas to mount a comeback.

                Shedeur Sanders: Poised and Efficient

Sanders continued his impressive rookie campaign, once again protecting the football and keeping the offense moving:

                -22-of-29 passing for 174 yards, 1 TD
                -3 carries, 34 yards
-Connected with seven different receivers, a season-high
-Only starting QB in the NFL without an interception through four games

While the Giants didn’t push the ball deep, Sanders delivered in key moments, converting third downs and making smart reads against Dallas’ pass rush. His chemistry with Malik Nabers continues to grow, as the rookie duo connected for another touchdown—their second in as many games.

                Top Performers

                Giants:
                QB Shedeur Sanders: 22/29, 174 yards, 1 TD, 3 carries, 34 yards
OLB Brian Burns: 5 tackles, 4 sacks, 5 TFL
OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux: 6 tackles, 1 sack, 4 TFL

                Cowboys:
QB Dak Prescott: 16/21, 176 yards
RB Cam Akers: 11 carries, 56 yards; 8 catches, 47 yards
LB Micah Parsons: 7 tackles, 2 sacks, 5 TFL

                Looking Ahead

The Giants now turn their attention to their toughest test yet—a Week 5 matchup against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on the road. Sanders will face his first true primetime divisional showdown against one of the best defenses in football.

For Dallas, this loss raises questions about their offensive identity, as their lack of a passing attack put them in a difficult position. They’ll look to rebound next week at home.

For now, the Giants will savor this hard-fought NFC East victory, as their dominant front seven continues to establish itself as one of the most feared units in the NFL
