Re: From The Shadows | The Rise Of "Nitro" Nash Savage (CFB25)

    The Savage Effect

Athens, GA. -Coach Nash Savage inherited a Georgia Bulldogs recruiting class that was ranked 30th nationally, with just 11 commitments for the 2033 season despite losing 24 players to graduation and another 3 to the portal.

Wasting no time, Savage made a major push in the transfer portal, securing eight additions—the second-most in the country behind Alabama’s nine. These key pickups helped Georgia climb to No. 21 in the final recruiting rankings.

“I think the level of interest we saw from transfer players—despite missing out on a few—shows the renewed excitement around the Georgia program,” Savage said after finalizing the class.

Among the most impactful transfer additions are former Kentucky linebacker Morris Pilgrim, Troy defensive tackle Danny DiNapoli, and ex-Virginia Tech cornerback London Duggan. Savage expects all three to play key roles in bolstering the Bulldogs’ defense.

“We already have talent on the roster, but I approached the transfer period with the goal of adding depth across the board—especially on defense,” Savage explained. “Winning in the SEC starts with defense, and we’re setting that tone from day one in Athens.”

      Georgia Bulldogs 2033 Season Preview

Athens, GA. - With the offseason hiring of head coach Nash Savage, the Georgia Bulldogs enter the 2033 season with renewed optimism following a disappointing 4-8 campaign in 2032. After a promising 4-1 start, Georgia’s season unraveled with six consecutive SEC losses (1-7 in conference play), culminating in a third straight defeat to archrival Georgia Tech.

While fans may hope for an immediate turnaround like the one Savage orchestrated in his first season at Syracuse—where he led the Orange to a 15-1 record, an ACC Championship, and a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance—Savage himself has urged patience. Speaking before Georgia’s annual “G-Day” spring game, the five-time national champion set realistic expectations.

“I don’t think it would be fair to this team to expect that kind of turnaround just yet,” Savage cautioned. “We have plenty of talent, but we also have to run the SEC gauntlet this year. There will be growing pains as the team adjusts to completely new schemes on both sides of the ball. With new coordinators and new coaches, it’s going to take more than a spring game to get fully acclimated.”

One of the biggest questions surrounding Georgia’s new regime is how Savage, along with newly appointed offensive coordinator Hines Ward, will shape the offense. Ward, a Georgia legend and former NFL receiver, is stepping into his first OC role after years as a receivers coach.

Savage emphasized that the offensive approach will evolve over time.
“I have my own scheme, developed at Ball State and refined at Syracuse, but flexibility is key at this level,” he explained. “Given our talent on the offensive line and quarterback Titus Tobin’s mobility, we’ll likely establish the run early and focus on ball control. As the season progresses, we’ll evaluate what works and adjust accordingly.”

When asked whether Tobin or any returning starters from last season would retain their roles, Savage gave a knowing smirk and reiterated that every position is up for grabs.

“In my first year at Syracuse, no job was guaranteed until Week 1, and I’m taking the same approach here,” he said. “To reinforce that, we’re shaking things up for G-Day. Instead of a traditional first-team vs. second-team format, we’re drawing names randomly to form teams. We want to see who thrives when taken out of their comfort zone.”

Georgia opens the season at home against Georgia State, a game Savage sees as an opportunity to evaluate both projected starters and reserves in live action. The intensity quickly ramps up in Week 3 with a marquee showdown against rival Clemson, now coached by former Georgia head coach and national champion Kirby Smart.

The road only gets tougher from there. The Bulldogs will travel to face Savage’s former offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees, at Michigan before diving into SEC play with a high-profile road test against Texas. The conference slate closes with a brutal five-game stretch, including matchups against Alabama, No. 5 Tennessee, No. 23 Florida, and No. 12 Auburn in the historic Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

“This is the best conference in college football,” Savage stated when asked about the difficulty of his first SEC season. “There’s a reason teams looking for a challenge schedule SEC opponents. Week in and week out, there’s no margin for error.”

As Savage begins his tenure in Athens, Georgia fans are eager to see how his proven track record of success translates to the SEC. While immediate dominance may not be realistic, the foundation is being laid for a new era of Bulldogs football.

Ball State Cardinals 2033 Season Preview

Muncie, IN. - It’s rare for a rookie head coach to inherit the preseason No. 1 team in the country, but that’s exactly the situation Kadin Semonza finds himself in as he leads the Ball State Cardinals into the 2033 season.

At just 30 years old, Semonza is the youngest head coach in modern college football history. After two years as a passing game coordinator and one year as the offensive coordinator at Syracuse, he now faces the immense challenge of maintaining Ball State’s championship expectations. But he welcomes the opportunity.

“Plenty of guys have found success at a young age,” Semonza said. “I may only have three years of coaching experience, but I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge that will help me navigate the early challenges.”

Semonza credited former Ball State head coach Nash Savage—now at Georgia—with preparing him for this moment.

“I would’ve liked a few more years to get ready, but I think everyone feels that way before taking on something new,” he admitted. “Life comes at you fast, and you have to adapt.”

And life will certainly come fast for the Cardinals, as they open the season with a marquee showdown against LSU, now coached by former Ball State head coach Mark Stoops. In Week 2, they’ll host former MAC rival Northern Illinois before Semonza makes his emotional return to the JMA Dome to face the four-time defending national champion Syracuse Orange. The non-conference gauntlet concludes with a trip to South Bend to take on Notre Dame.

While Ball State has embraced difficult scheduling since the Savage era began nine years ago, this stretch presents a major test for a first-year head coach still finalizing his roster.

The Cardinals return nearly their entire defense from last season, but the offense must adjust to life without departed Heisman Trophy winner Daryl Pope.
“He was a special talent, no doubt,” Semonza said. “His ability as both a runner and receiver made him a game-changer. But our job now is to identify who we are offensively and execute.”

While he didn’t provide details on whether the offense would resemble the pass-heavy attack he orchestrated at Syracuse during Immanuel Hendrix’s record-breaking season, he did confirm that senior Taylor Beckner will begin the season as the starting quarterback.

“We’ve got a lot of talent in our quarterback room,” Semonza said. “That’s always a good problem to have, but it also means some starting-caliber guys will be on the bench to start the year.”

Ball State boasts an embarrassment of riches at quarterback, signing two five-star prospects in this year’s recruiting class to join last year’s five-star freshman, Emeka Kikaha. Kikaha won the starting job last season after Beckner struggled early, throwing 12 interceptions in the first five games. However, a late-season slump, which included five multi-interception games—including costly performances in the Big 12 Championship Game and the Fiesta Bowl—prompted Stoops to turn back to Beckner. The senior then led Ball State to the national championship game, where they fell to Semonza’s Syracuse squad.
Now, Beckner’s late-season resurgence has earned him the starting job once again. But with so much talent waiting in the wings, he’ll need to perform at a high level to keep it. If he stumbles, Semonza has plenty of options ready to step in.

As the Cardinals enter a new era under a first-time head coach, the expectations remain the same: compete for a national championship. How quickly Semonza can settle into his role—and how well the offense transitions without Pope—will determine whether Ball State can finish what they started last season.

LEFT - Titus Tobin looked in complete control in his 1st game in Savage's offense, going 10/13 for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 1st half alone. Tobin can be seen above scrambling out of the pocket before re-setting and firing a 20 yard TD for his first TD pass of the season.
CENTER - Georgia State QB Tyreke Malik answered the opening touchdown by Georgia with one of his own, but the touchdown wasn't a sign of things to come as it would be the lone points for the State QB on the day.
RIGHT - The Bulldogs lone sack in the 1st half came on this blitz by LB Nico Parra that Malik never saw, losing the ball during the sack to set up Tobin's 4th TD pass of the afternoon.

Athens, GA. - Georgia wasted no time setting the tone for the Nash Savage era, dominating Georgia State 52-7 in the season opener. Quarterback Titus Tobin led the charge, throwing four touchdown passes in the first half before getting a well-earned break after halftime. The Bulldogs’ offense clicked from the start, with Tobin scrambling for 17 yards on the first play and then rolling out to find Dom Short for a 21-yard touchdown to put Georgia on the board. Georgia State briefly responded, as quarterback Tyreke Malik connected on a 54-yard pass to set up his own 10-yard touchdown run. However, that would be the Panthers’ lone highlight of the day, as the Georgia defense locked in and the offense continued to roll.

Tobin continued his aerial assault, launching a 48-yard strike to Jon Amerson and following it up with touchdown passes to Melvin Miles and Chuck Housler. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs’ ground game showcased its depth, with running backs Daniel Velasco and Rudy Gaskin each surpassing 125 rushing yards as they split carries between halves. Velasco found the end zone twice in the second quarter, pushing Georgia to a commanding 42-7 halftime lead. Gaskin added a 33-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Quincey Toone capped the scoring with a 30-yard field goal.

True to his preseason promise, Savage made sure to get his reserves playing time in the second half. When asked postgame if there would be any changes at quarterback, the head coach made it clear that Tobin would remain the starter moving forward after his efficient 10-for-13, 204-yard, four-touchdown performance, complemented by 34 rushing yards.

While Georgia cruised in its opener, Savage’s former quarterback and offensive coordinator, Kadin Semonza, made headlines of his own. In his first game as Ball State’s head coach, Semonza orchestrated a thrilling 49-46 victory over No. 6 LSU and former Cardinals coach Mark Stoops. Quarterback Taylor Beckner dazzled with six touchdown passes, including the game-winning throw with 29 seconds remaining, securing Semonza’s first career victory.

The Bulldogs will now head into an early bye week before hosting longtime rival Clemson and former head coach Kirby Smart in what promises to be a highly anticipated showdown.

Nice start for the Bulldogs.. Looks like you got a balanced attack.. Of course we will see what really happens once SEC play starts.

I'm liking Tobin so far, so hopefully the balance continues. He reminds me a bit of a slower Trevor Driscoll from USC. Receivers made some plays, but I still don't have my go to guy. But all of the running backs are "Power" HBs, but with 95+ speed so they were fun to use running around and through guys.

Once we get the offensive line 100% healthy we should be a power running team. The injuries I didn't notice until going to write my preview, both the offensive line injuries carry over from last year and its disappointing that they let Duggan in the portal even though he had a season ending injury basically. Got him from VTech with a Torn Pec that is going to keep him out 21 weeks starting in week 1????? Weird.

Clemson will be a nice test, then back to back road games at The Big House and DKR will be the true 1st tests

LEFT - Kirby Smart wasn't the only coach facing their former team, as Georgia DC Mikey Conn cooked up six sacks against his former team.
CENTER LEFT - Clemson was driving to open the 3rd quarter, but a costly fumble not only squandered a scoring opportunity, but Georgia responded with a touchdown of their own for a 24-7 lead.
CENTER RIGHT - Arkansas transfer Melvin Miles has emerged as an early playmaker for the Bulldogs, with this 54 yard jet sweep giving Georgia a 24-7 lead. HIs 3rd TD of the game, late in the 4th Q, would seal the rivalry win for Coach Savage.
RIGHT - Clemson WR Skylar Franz broke three tackles during his 53 yard catch and run touchdown, sparking a late Clemson surge that saw them cut the deficit to 24-21 early in the 4th.

Athens, GA. - Georgia secured a hard-fought 31-21 victory over Clemson in a rain-soaked battle that saw former Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart return to Athens as an opponent for the first time. Meanwhile, Georgia’s defensive coordinator Mickey Conn, a former Clemson assistant, ensured his defense made a statement with six sacks and two turnovers that proved critical in the win.

The Bulldogs came out strong, scoring on their first two drives while Clemson struggled against relentless defensive pressure. Titus Tobin opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Velasco, and after another defensive stop, he found Melvin Miles for a 6-yard touchdown to extend Georgia’s early lead. Clemson finally got on the board following a Tobin interception, as running back Jeremiah Murphy punched in a 2-yard score to cut the deficit to 14-7. Tobin responded with a 45-yard strike to Dom Short to set up a 41-yard field goal from Quincey Toone, giving Georgia a 17-7 halftime lead.

Clemson looked poised to claw back into the game early in the third quarter, driving deep into Georgia territory, but a fumble by Murphy—forced by Bulldogs safety Mario Winbush—shifted the momentum. Georgia capitalized quickly, with Miles taking a jet sweep 53 yards to the house to push the lead to 24-7.

The Tigers finally found their rhythm in the fourth quarter, as quarterback Jeremy Gesicki connected with Skylar Frantz on a 53-yard touchdown, with Frantz breaking multiple tackles on his way to the end zone. Georgia’s interception struggles continued in the rain, and another Tobin interception set up Gesicki’s second touchdown pass of the quarter, this time an 8-yarder to Antonio Byham, cutting the Bulldogs’ lead to just 24-21 with 8:38 to play.

Needing to respond, Georgia orchestrated a masterful 14-play, 6:49 drive that featured a 37-yard completion to tight end Lonnie Banks and two fourth-down conversions. The drive culminated in Miles’ third touchdown of the game, a 13-yard swing pass that restored a 10-point Georgia lead with just 1:48 remaining. Clemson had one final opportunity, but a sack by linebacker Pat Lovell and an interception by cornerback Adrian Diesch sealed the win for the Bulldogs.

“This is Georgia football,” declared first-year offensive coordinator Hines Ward. “We beat you up and down the field until you’re thankful the bell finally rang.”

Elsewhere, former Nash Savage teams collided as No. 1 Ball State took down No. 3 Syracuse, ending the Orange’s 32-game winning streak. Syracuse quarterback Brenton Deablo led a furious rally from a 24-10 deficit, tying the game with 1:43 left, but Ball State’s Taylor Beckner engineered a clutch final drive, throwing a game-winning touchdown with just 19 seconds remaining for the 38-31 victory.

Now sitting at 2-0, Georgia faces its toughest test yet as it heads to Ann Arbor for a showdown with fourth-ranked Michigan, where former Syracuse offensive coordinator Tommy Rees awaits with a high-powered Wolverines squad.

Solid win over Clemson. Got to win those games in the eyes of the recruits. Next one is huge. Looks like Rees has the Wolverines ready to challenge for a Big Ten title and a spot in the playoffs.

I am a little surprised you didn't do a bigger write-up for the Ball State Syracuse game. Looked like it was a good one

I was going too, but then realized I didn't get any screen grabs or save the scoring summary so it would have been a cobbled together one.

Hoping Syracuse makes the CFP and we can get a rematch. I've been thinking about when a Savage return to JMA would make sense and I think next season or the season after would be good timing. That way there are still guys I recruited on the field.

Michigan was one loss to Ohio State away from making the Big Ten CCG and the playoff as well. Their offense has some talent, but no WR depth and the defense is stacked. Going to be the first big challenge we've got at UGA. Clemson gave us a run at the end so I'm excited to see how we perform

Good start to life in Georgia, but things will certainly be tougher once SEC play comes around! Also, this game churns out some fantastic QB names - Titus Torbin is elite, and Ball State's Emeka Kikaha is pretty good too.

Immanuel Hendrix is still probably my favorite generated QB name, but there are usually some pretty solid ones each and every class. The Michigan game will be a good test, but as you said SEC will be the real challenge. 11-3 in my career against SEC so they've given me the most trouble. Definitely excited for it!

LEFT - Franklin Mustipher with the heads up INT after the errant pass by Michigan QB Keilan Pettigrew, plucking the pass out of the area before walking uncontested into the end zone.
CENTER - The lone highlight for Michigan on the day. After a fumble on the kickoff set up Georgia with stellar field position, SS Shareef Scales made a heads up play after RB Rudy Gaskin had the ball jarred lose.
RIGHT - Chuck Housler leaping up for the finishing blow on a 52-0 Georgia lead, giving way to the 2nd team to finish the game.

Ann Arbor, MI. - Georgia’s early-season dominance continued in overwhelming fashion as the Bulldogs dismantled No. 4 Michigan, 66-0, in Ann Arbor. What was expected to be a difficult road test for Nash Savage’s squad turned into a statement victory, as Georgia imposed its will from the opening kickoff and never relented.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a methodical 10-play drive, converting two fourth downs before Titus Tobin connected with Melvin Miles on a 2-yard touchdown pass to set the tone. Michigan had an opportunity to stop the bleeding after recovering a bobbled ball on Georgia’s ensuing drive, but their offense faltered with a quick three-and-out. Moments later, Daniel Velasco punched in a 4-yard touchdown run, and from there, the floodgates opened.

The second quarter saw Georgia’s defense completely overwhelm Michigan quarterback Keilan Pettigrew, who threw three interceptions, including a 23-yard pick-six by Franklin Mustipher that pushed the Bulldogs’ lead to 21-0. Rudy Gaskin followed up with an 11-yard rushing touchdown, and Tobin added two more passing scores—one a 28-yard strike to Jon Amerson, and the other a 12-yarder to the same receiver—giving Georgia a staggering 42-0 advantage at halftime.

With the game well in hand, the Bulldogs tacked on a field goal and a 51-yard touchdown pass from Tobin to Chuck Housler before turning things over to the reserves. Even Georgia’s second-team unit proved too much for Michigan, as Tory Atwell and Sam Mangold each rushed for short touchdowns in the fourth quarter to complete the historic shutout.

Tobin was once again sharp, finishing 14-of-17 for 204 yards and four touchdowns while adding 50 yards on the ground. However, despite the dominant victory, Georgia suffered key injuries on the offensive line, losing two more starters and bringing their total to four sidelined linemen. Additionally, backup running back Rudy Gaskin suffered a broken thumb in the third quarter and is expected to miss the next three weeks.

With the win, Georgia moves to 3-0 under Savage and remains one of the hottest teams in the country. The Bulldogs now shift their focus to SEC play as they travel to Austin for a top-25 showdown against No. 24 Texas.
