Pittsburgh (AP)--
After a deflating start in which the Pens surrendered a soft goal to Jaromir Jagr just 25 seconds into the game and were unable to register a shot in the first 8 minutes, Jordan Staal's 6th goal of the playoffs on a rebound into a gaping net once again sparked the Pens into over-drive.
"It can't be said how much he has meant to us in this series. This team is not just about the stars, its about those secondary guys...thats where we really try to hurt our opponents", remarked head coach Mario Lemieux in regards to Staal who has tallied 6 goals in the 5 games of the series after scoring 25 goals this season.
Petr Prucha would give the Pens a short lived 2-1 lead as Sidney Crosby would tie the game just 51 ticks into the second frame beating two Ranger defensemen in the effort.
The game-winning goal would be scored midway through the 2nd period when a Ranger turnover to Miroslav Satan would spring Eric Christensen on a breakaway in which he would beat Burke 5-hole.
"The play by Miro was key there...just a great read both defensively and then to know where I was at the same time made it really special...that one was all him", said Christensen deflecting any credit whatsoever.
The Pens would cap the win with a 3rd period marker from Evgeni Malkin, sealing a 3-2 lead as the series heads back to New York for a game 6.
"We want to end this thing and get our guys some rest...the more rest you get in the playoffs...the better", said Sidney Crosby who has notched a point in 4 straght games.
