After the initial shock wore off and the celebrating was over, I went to the computer and typed in wikipedia.com and then went to the 2008 NHL Entry Draft page. The draft table had my name on it, also with all the names Alex got wrong: Scott Quickel, John Kurecki, Peter Carey, Adam Lewis, Patrick Cosgrove, Clarke Ainsley, Zach Larson, and Derrick Thomas. My name came two picks after Thomas’s. Wow, I’m a King. But did THEY really have to pick me though?
“Honey, some guys are here for you!” my mom shouted. I got off the computer and saw that a group of TSN and Versus reporters were on my doorstep.
“Hey kid, have time for an interview?”
“Ummmm, sure.”
“So how do you feel about being drafted by Los Angles? Would you rather have had another team draft you?”
“Well, it’s just an honor to be even considered by any team in the NHL.”
“But you were rated #30 on the TSN Top 2008 Prospects.”
“Oh..I wasn’t aware of that.”
“Well, you won the Cal state championship, how does this compare to that?”
“It’s like I just won twenty championships in a row, it’s just amazing.”
“So where did you originally think you were gonna go?”
“…Undrafted…”
“Well, certainly humble. Joshua Ormand, a definite future star. We’ll
catch up with you later. Thanks for the interview.”
“No, thank you.”
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!” Alex bursted out.
“What?” I said.
“Oh…it’s nothing, it’s nothing…you’ll see on T.V.”
“Tell me.”
“No, just wait,” he insisted.
“Okay, whatever you say,” I said while Alex kept laughing, Anna kept smiling, and my mom was snickering.Go Saints.Comment

After the interview frenzy was over, I was exhausted, so I laid on my couch and turned on the T.V. “The Canucks select with the 41st overall pick of the 2008 NHL Draft, Kyle King.” Hmmm, he sounds familiar, I thought to myself.
“Honey, more people are here,” my mom said. Uhhh, great.
“Tell them go away.”
“…They say they’re with the Los Angeles Kings organization.”
“Huh?” I hurried up to the door to see three men in suits, one of who being Dustin Brown.
“Hey kid,” Dustin said while shaking my hand, “Welcome to the Los Angeles Kings organization. Now go put on a suit and get ready to go to Ontario.”
“Oh, no than-” I started.
“He’s going to get ready,” Anna said while smiling. What is that about? Why does she---ohhhhhh, okay I get it.
“Yea, I’ll be right back Mr. Brown,” I said while slightly elbowing Anna and winking to her.
“Uhhh, wanna tell me what all that is about with Anna?” Alex said.
“Nothing. I’m going to Canada…with Anna.”
“Woohoo J Dizzle. Bom chicka bow wow. Mmmm,” he said while doing

“Oh honey that’s great, you’re going to Ottawa,” my mom said, “Do you want me to come?”
“You? No it’s okay. Then who’s gonna take care of Grams?”
“Oh, well you have a point.” I ran upstairs, put on my grey pinstripe suit with red tie, packed my suitcase, and I ran out the door. “Be safe! Have fun! Love you! Be safe with Anna too, always use-” but I was already out the door before I could hear her finish, not that it was needed to be heard or anything.Go Saints.Comment

We arrived in Canada with the three men, and got into the limo. “Okay, here’s what’s up. When we go into Scotiabank Place, we’re going to go in normally, but you are going in the back way. A GM is going to announce a draft pick, but he isn’t going to be there, so then he’s gonna say something like ‘Although so-and-so isn’t here, there is someone else here, Mister Joshua Ormand, 32nd overall draft pick.’”
“Okay, but isn’t this all a little too much?”
“Kid, quit acting like you’re unknown. You were pretty much drafted in the first round.”
“We have arrived,” said the limo driver in a very proper, French accented voice.
“It’s show time kid. Oh, and put this on,” Dustin said while handing me a Kings jersey with 08 and my name on it. I proceeded to put it, and enter the arena when security stopped me.
“Excuse, but I really need to get going,” I practically begged.
“Yea, sure. And you are…?”
“Joshua Ormand.”
“Oh, okay. Go on in……Psych! You think just because you give me some random name, I’m supposed to let you go in?”
“But I’m a draftee, see?” I said while turning around, showing my jersey.
“Oh wait, you’re that Kings boy.”
“Nothing gets past you,” I mumbled.
“What was that?”
“Oh, nothing.” Right when I entered the GM said my name. If I would have even sneezed I would have been late. I walked out onto the stand and smiled while cameras snapped shots, and the crowd yelled with mixed yays and boos.
***After I finally made it to the lobby of my hotel because of all the media attention of people like Skyland and Quickel and Hunter, I finally got to relax and breathe. Anna and I walked into the elevator. “Oh, hi,” I said to some guy in the elevator.
“Hi,” he said in an extremely heavy Scandinavian accent, “I am Juuso. Please pardon my bad Eeengleesh. I am from Finland. And you are?”
“Oh, ehemm (clearing my throat), I am Joshua. I’m from America.”
“Hmmm, you sound familiar. Did you get drafted today, too?”
“Oh, yes, yes I did…… Soooo, when did you get drafted?”
“Oh, I got drafted in the fourth round. You?”
“Second.” It was starting to get awkward. “BING!” the elevator made. “Wait, this isn’t our floor, it must be
yours?”
“No, I am floor 21.” And right as he said that, another guy who looked my age walked in.
“Hi,” Juuso and I said.
“Hey, I’m Steven, Steven Raczkowski.”
“I’m Joshua Ormand.”
“And I’m Juuso Alho.”
“And I am Joshua’s girlfriend.” “Oh, this is us,” she said while pulling me out of the elevator. From that point on, I best not say anything more.Go Saints.Comment
