Re: Rockin' The Red! - A Washington Capitals Franchise (NHL 10)
Weellll....I didn't like EA's rosters and I tried Matt's but they were updated well before EA fixed a lot of the players appearences(manily Backstrom's). So I spent a ridiculous amout of hours updateing them myself this weekend. On top of that I worked 12 hours Friday and another 12 today. So I've been crazy busy.
I'm still tinkering with the sliders. I like yours a lot OBG but I also found a superstar set that plays alot different. I've never played on superstar before but I wasn't getting blown out which was shocking. The superstar players like Ovie and Semin were playing a lot differently. Hard to explain but it has me intrigued. So I was going to mess with yours(OBG) tonight on superstar to see what happens.
I am hoping to knock out a couple more articles and get these sliders locked down soon. Then I'll start the preseason. I am really excited to get started too! It's killing me! But I feel the preperation will help for a fun experience with this game. Wish me luck, lol! I gonna go tinker some more.....Comment

Russian Rocket Lands in D.C.!
Just rumors? Apparently not! The six time All-Star and two time ‘Rocket’ Richard trophy winner has signed with the Washington Capitals today, after flying into D.C., taking a tour of the facilities and meeting with ownership. Bure brings over 702 games played, 437 goals, 342 assists for a total of 779 points in his NHL/International career. Financial terms of the agreement have not been made public. General manager of the Capitals, George McPhee had the following to say regarding this incredible announcement:
“It’s an exciting time for the Washington Capitals franchise. First and foremost we have to thank Alexander Ovechkin for orchestrating these events. Pavel Bure has decided to give the NHL and his quest to hold the Stanley Cup one more shot. Alex spoke at great lengths this past summer with Pavel about our chances and how much of an impact he could make on our club. Pavel is in pretty good shape, might be a little rusty but his knee did pass our physical. He will be joining the team immediately and will be participating in training camp and the preseason. At the conclusion of the preseason we will evaluate him and see if he’s ready for action. If he’s not, he will start in Hershey on a conditioning assignment with the Bears. We’ll re-evaluate him after that assignment, possibly five games or so and if he’s in game shape we’ll call him up. That’s the plan up until this point. He’s really excited and hopes that he can contribute immediately.”
McPhee also took a few questions at the press conference as well. Then Pavel was introduced to the media and spoke as well:
“I’m really excited to be a Washington Capital today. I’m excited to try and attempt this comeback. I’ve been out of the league for a couple years now and I hope that has been enough for my knee to heal. I’ve been trying to stay in shape and strengthening the knee while I’ve been away. Alex(Ovechkin) is a very persuasive guy! He told me how much he’d like to see me back in the NHL, especially if it was with the Capitals. He raved about all the talent that is on this roster and how close it is to possibly winning a cup. It really got my blood pumping just thinking about hockey again. I’m grateful to owner Ted Leonsis and GM McPhee for giving me a chance to prove myself again. Hopefully I can help Ovie and this club get closer to their goal.”
After hearing from both McPhee and Bure the Capitals made several of the other players on their roster available. We were able to catch up with Alex the Great himself, “It’s Pavel Bure, The Russian Rocket! How could I not try and convince him to join us,” Ovechkin raved, “He’s one of the most exciting players of all time and now I can call him my teammate!” Mike Green was gushing, “You thought our club had fire power already? Wow, I’m not only excited for us but for the fans as well.” Speaking of fans rookie forward P.J. Tait had this to say, “Just incredible! He was my favorite player growing up. I remember creating myself in NHL 2000 just to be on the Florida Panthers with him. Now I’m actually going to be playing on the same ice as him!”
With only a few more practices before the preseason starts. How soon will we see Bure in a Capitals jersey? Stay tuned fans!Last edited by Bure10Beezer34; 11-10-2009, 10:43 PM.Comment

Re: Rockin' The Red! - A Washington Capitals Franchise (NHL 10)
Wow, have you heard the news yet? Well if not I will tell you….PAVEL BURE IS A WASHINGTON CAPITAL! Sorry about the caps, but I’m EXCITED! I know in an earlier post I voiced my concern over all the rumors circling the internet regarding Bure. I still do feel that it is a risky move for the Capitals considering the past knee problems but I can’t deny what he brings to the table. He’s a superstar, an NHL legend and we get to see him on a nightly basis! Or at least let’s hope we do. It sounds as if he’s a bit rusty and will need some conditioning to get up to speed. But if and when he does, look out! He’ll either be on a line with Ovechkin or Semin! Either way you will have two incredible wingers on one line! This could legitimately make the first two lines very lethal! Very exciting!!!
I know one player that won’t be centering Bure and that’s Michael Nylander. What is going on with this situation??? He’s a no show last year and the Caps can’t get rid of him at the trade deadline. He’s a healthy scratch throughout the post season as well. He’s obviously in the dog house and McPhee can’t seem to get rid of him! I would like to say I’ve heard some rumors as to any….I mean ANY team that might be interested in his services but I have not. Hopefully this situation doesn’t drag to far into the season and become a distraction to the team.
Speaking of rumors I’m hearing that Washington are possibly shopping around for a defensive partner for Mike Green. Management isn’t dissatisfied with Shaone Morrissonn from what I’m hearing but they would like to find someone that has more offensive upset than he does. I’ve heard disscusions have been taking place with Florida, Phoenix, Colorado and Nashville.
I spoke with GM McPhee about the goaltending situation and he said that it’s a competition. He trusts that Coach Boudreau will evaluate and make the best decision for the team. What I find most interesting about this is that he even included Michal Neurith in the battle! Now I know he led the Hershey Bears last year to a championship and had quite a playoff run, but is he ready to make the next step? I’m not too sure. Varlamov had quite a run himself last year as well. If it wasn’t for some “technique” issues with his goaltending, Varly might have taken the Caps even further. But management hired former goaltender Arturs Irbe as their goaltending coach this year. He’s suppose to help work with Varly to get his angles right that he was having difficulties with at the end of last year. I think it’s Varlamov’s job to lose. I have seen nothing out of Jose Theodore that would lead me to believe he can regain his Vezina and Hart winning skills that he flashed a few years ago.

Re: Rockin' The Red! - A Washington Capitals Franchise (NHL 10)

Mission Accomplished! Kyle Quincey Acquired.
The Washington Capitals today acquired the services of defensemen Kyle Quincey from the Colorado Avalanche. In exchange the Avs received RW, Eric Fehr and a 3rd round draft pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft. Fehr became expendable when the Capitals signed RW’s, Pavel Bure and Mike Knuble in the off-season. This move also signals that management might really be impressed with fellow RW, P.J. Tait thus far and perhaps he might be ready to stick with the club this year.
Quincey started his career with the Detroit Red Wings before being acquired through waivers by the Los Angeles Kings. Last year with the Kings he had a break out year with 4 goals, 34 assists, for a total of 38 points on the season. 27 of those points being on the power play. “He’s not just a power play specialist,” General Manager George McPhee stated, “he’s capable of logging big minutes and he is very responsible at the defensive end of the ice.” “I think he’s a perfect compliment to Mike Green during 5 on 5 action and he can quarterback the second power play unit to take some pressure off the first,” McPhee continued, “we’ve had our eye on him for quite some time, we’ve just never been able to pull the trigger on a trade.”
Well now the Caps have pulled that trigger and they feel they have a valuable piece to the puzzle. Will that piece fit in well with his new teammates?Comment

Re: Rockin' The Red! - A Washington Capitals Franchise (NHL 10)
Hooorrrrayyyyy! I started the preseason tonight! I created a tournament and in Pool A is the Washington Capitals and Pool B is the Hershey Bears. I figured this would make it easy to keep track of the preseason stats since it will do it for meI will probably play about four or five games with each team. I have sliders set but I will probably be tweaking them during the preseason. For the record all four "try outs" are with Hershey(Parrish, Sanderson, Berard and Tarnstrom). Bure is also with Hershey since he will probably start the season with them. P.J. Tait is with the Caps and so is newly acquired Kyle Quincey.
I'm not planning on doing any recaps for the preseason games. I will be showing the scoring summary and 3 stars. I will probably comment a bit on how the game is playing since this is really my first go at it. Ok I think that's it....game one...
Portland Pirates vs. Hershey Bears
Scoring
1st Period
None
2nd Period
Her - (1)Bouchard (Berard, Carlson)
Por - McCormick (Wanvig, Gragnani)
Her - (1)Tarnstrom (Osala, Carlson)
3rd Period
Por - Mancari (Larsen, Zagrapan)
OT
Her - (1)Perreault (Berard, Bouchard)
Portand 2 - Hershey 3
Three Stars
3. Francois Bouchard - Her.
2. Mathieu Perrault - Her.
1. Jhonas Enroth - Por.
Hershey wins their first game in overtime 3-2. Bouchard's goal was a nice deflection goal. Tarnstrom swooped in from the point and put it in(really sweet looking!) Perrault's game winner was off of a rebound from a Berard slap shot after he came in from the point.
Other notes, both goals I let in were off of bad line changes. I told you guys I was gonna have issues with that all season...LOL! The game was interesting because I seemed to have intimidated them from the start. I out shot them by a lot which was disappointing(54-18). I didn't have that problem when I tested the sliders in "play it now." Not sure how to correct it because I played normal. Maybe it was a fluke and Portland stinks? Time on attack was almost equal. 6 power plays for Hershey, 3 for Portland.
Other than that it was a really enjoyable game. Hopefully more are like this one....minus the shot totals! On to the Capitals first game....Last edited by Bure10Beezer34; 11-14-2009, 12:01 AM.Comment

Re: Rockin' The Red! - A Washington Capitals Franchise (NHL 10)
Preseason - Game 1
New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals
1st Period
NYR - Del Zotto (Dubinsky)
Was. - (1)Backstrom (Tait, Ovechkin)
2nd Period
NYR - Avery (Prospal, Del Zotto) (PP)
NYR - Gaborik (Higgins, Drury) (PP)
3rd Period
None
Final
New York 3 - Washington 1
Three Stars
3. Nicklas Backstrom
2. Michael Del Zotto
1. Henrik Lundqvist
This game was definetly different from the Bears first game! I never was able to gain any momentum. New York pretty much dominated me most of the game. Shots were almost even(YAY!). Time on attack went to NYR. Both of NYR power play goals were off of bad line changes by me. I need to work on those especially on the PP! In the 3rd period Kyle Quincey ripped one from the point that was deflected by Brooks Laich and it hit the post. Bummed....but very cool! On to the next game!Comment

Preseason - Hershey Bears - Game 2
Hershey Bears vs. Hartford Wolfpack
1st Period
Hrt. - Arnason (Unassisted) (PP)
2nd Period

3rd Period
None
OT
Her. - (1)A. Gordon (Wilson, Carlson) (SH)
Hershey 2 - Hartford 1
Three Stars
3. Andrew Gordon
2. Jason Bacashihua
1. Chad Johnson
Another OT winner for the Bears and a shorty no less! I am having a heck of a time scoring. I have yet to score a PP goal. I am seeing some improvement so hopefully I'll start to pick up the scoring. These tight defensive games are fun but man alive, lol! Bure has yet to find the score sheet....Carlson has been huge! Shots were almost even and they beat me again in time on attack.Last edited by Bure10Beezer34; 11-14-2009, 12:02 AM.Comment

Buf. - Paetsch (Connolly, Lydman) (SH)
3rd Period
Buf. - Ellis (Hecht, Stafford)

Buffalo 3 - Washington 1

3. Toni Lydman
2. Nathan Paetsch
1. Ryan Miller
Only positive from the game: Ovie, Backstrom and Tait dominated on about 90% of their shifts. Lots of opportunities but they couldn't seal the deal. I'm starting to get a little frustrated with the lack of scoring. Maybe I shouldn't be playing on Superstar? Still have not scored a power play goal with either the Bears or Caps. I would say I'm about 0 for 20. That's all for tonight....gotta sleepLast edited by Bure10Beezer34; 11-14-2009, 12:03 AM.Comment

Thanks for the comments...but...
I mentioned in a previous post that for the preseason I'm not doing any write ups or putting a lot of time into them. Once I start the season I will be doing a much better format with those games.
