It was a competition between goalies. Every shot seemed to go straight to the body of Ryan Miller and Mikko Holopainen. Holopainen made more saves, but he let one puck in. Miller and Holopainen were showing some great saves in the last period, but in overtime Miller didn't face any shots and Holopainen a couple of shots, and Thomas Vanek scored the game winning goal from in front of the net and Holopainen couldn't do anything to make the save.

The game started and Pavel Kubina tooked a hooking penalty with less than a minute played in the first period. And who else would score on the powerplay than Alex Ovechkin, he got a pass from behind the goal from Nicklas Backstrom and Ovechkin made an accurate snap shot past Holopainen. But Nik Antropov tied the game in the first period and soon tooked Atlanta to the lead with his second goal of the match.

In the second period Jim Slater made a slap-shot and scored past Semyon Varlamov and couple of minutes late Evander Kane scored and putted Thrashers into three goal lead. Capitals tried to come back, but Holopainen had an excellent period in net and he didn't let any shot go by.

When Bryan Little scored the 5-1 goal the game was over and Capitals started to control the game, but Holopainen was on fire and he still kept the game 5-1. But in the last minute Matt Bradley shooted the puck and it went in of Zach Bogosian's back. Bryan Little still managed to score the lasr goal of the game only thirteen seconds later past Varlamov.

Atlanta's GM Don Waddel has announced that rookie goaltender Mikko Holopainen can start to look for a house in Atlanta, that means that Holopainen will stay in NHL atleast a couple of weeks, maybe even longer. Holopainen was drafted in the first round (5th Overall) last summer. ''He showed that he is capable of playing in the NHL '', GM Waddel said. Holopainen has got two wins in four games and two overtimelosses aswell and his goal against average is 1,95 and his save percentage is 92,20%. ''His stats are excellent'', coach John Anderson said. ''Yes it is great to start to look for a new house, it's a shame that we don't have any other Finns here so they can't help me with looking the house'', Holopainen said to NHL.com. John Anderson said that Holopainen will have few extra starts thanks to his playing against the Washington Capitals.

In the first period rookie Evander Kane scored his fifth goal of the season with a snap shot past Ray Emery. Atlanta started to defend their own end and San Jose contolled the game, but they couldn't shoot much due Atlanta's sacrificing style.

In the second period Holopainen and Nabokov tooked the number one star positions in their team by making alot of great saves and that was the reaso why no one managed to score, Antropov and Heatley got frusrated, because they had so many good opportunites to score. Heatley made a quick wrist shot and Holopainen got the puck in to his glove and in next attack Antropov had an open net, but some how Nabokov managed to save it.

The first fifteen minutes of the last period were just one goal game, Sharks found a new gear in the last period and Atlanta couldn't do anything but try to hang on. When there was only four minutes left in the clock Mikko Holopainen went to stop the puck from behind the goal and his skate went to the non-goalie area and he got a penalty for Delay of Game. In that two minute time Sharks didn't losr the puck they just held it in Atlanta's defensive zone, only Holopainen's saves kept Thrashers in the lead, but when that penalty was over and there was a little under two minutes to play Pavel Kubina tooked a Holding penalty. Holopainen saved the first five changes, but when there was only sixteen seconds left Heatley founded Joe Thornton alone infront of the goal and he scored.

In the Over time Dany Heatley made a snap shot and surprised Holopainen and scored.

Jonathan Cheechoo scored with a snapshot in the first period to make it 1-0 for Ottawa. But later Bryan Little scored with a one-timer and then Holopainen and Leclaire started to make really good saves and they kept the game tied Sens shooted more then Trashers, but Trashers had better changes.

In the second period Colby Armstrong scored with a backhander to make it 2-1 and six minutes later Nik Antropov scored from a rebound to take Atlanta into a two goal lead. After that Senators tried harder and hareder, but Holopainen was a wall infront of them, Senators made 18 shots in that period and Holopainen didn't let any of those go in.

In the last period Atlanta was lucky, because Ottawa got two crossbars and one post, but they didn't score. Mikko Holopainen played well and he didn't give any rebounds that Sens could use, he really learned from their last game when Mike Fisher scored in the final second from rebound. In the last minute Holopainen saved Jason Spezza's shot and after that Spezza took a elbowing penalty and Trashers won the game.
