Re: NHL 11 GM summit
Since I decided to make a charge to finish the first dreadful season, I did not record any monthly stats beyond what is posted above. I will post my trade deadline moves here and make a follow up post about team standings for the leafs marlies and league with closing comments on the season.
I can not describe how hard it was to go through with this, as each game seemed to drag on endlessly, low scoring and high pims are killers.
anyways, on to the updating!
Trade:
D D. Phaneuf (TWD) LW Nikoali Kulemin (SNP) 2011 5th (TOR) 2011 7th (ANA)
To CHI for:
RW Patrick Kane (SNP) LW Kyle Beach (PWF)
Stats:
Phaneuf 84 OVR 4 years @ 6.5M remaining C/C-/C POT 26 years old
Kulemin 81 OVR 2 years @ 2.35M remaining B-/C/C POT 24 years old
Kane 87 OVR 5 years @ 5.965M remaining B-/B-/B- POT 22 years old
Beach 74 OVR 3 years @ 875K remaining B/C/B- POT 21 years old
Comments:
So here is how it breaks down. Phaneuf spent 50 games in my line up. He started on the first line, first powerplay unit. in those 50 games he had less then 10 points, in the range of 2 goals and 6-8 assists, he was a minus player and lead the team in PIMS, the PIMs I can live with he isn't exactly MR. Discipline but it needs to come with points.
Kulemin never performed in any situation for me, he constantly floated between the first-third line, i put him on PP units and nothing. While he was responsible and a low PIMS player this season showed me one thing, I NEED TO CHANGE THIS TEAM! good god I could not get the guys to do anything useful, but I seen that coming.
Kane will solidify my top line as a threat and allow me to spread my scoring across my lines instead of having to bulk it into one, Beach i hope will grow into my second/third line truck that scores.
Trade:
C M. Grabovski (PLY) 2011 7th (TOR)
To CBJ for:
2011 1st (CBJ)
Stats:
Grabovski 82 OVR 2 years @ 2.9M remaining C/C/C- POT 27 years old
Comments:
Grabovski actually was a team leader in points and production. Sadly I never liked him, in real life or virtual, couple that with needing a first overall pick! SOLD SOLD SOLD. This also puts Turris on the hot seat to move in and take over as my number 1 pivot. Kyle this is your future calling, are you there?
Trade:
D C. Gunnarsson (TWD)
To NYI for:
2011 1st (NYI)
Stats:
Gunnarsson 78 OVR 1 year @ 800K remaining B-/B/B- POT 24 years old
Comments:
I had a hard time making this trade. Believe it or not Carl took over and lead my entire D core in every stat there is besides hitting and penalty minutes. He moved up to my first pairing and never looked back. A very pleasant surprise. Sadly, I do have young depth coming up soon, and I am trying to capture the first overall pick in this years draft. This will help me greatly as you will soon see.
Trade:
2011 2nd (TOR) 2011 4th (TOR)
To DAL for:
2011 1st (DAL)
Comments:
I want to restock my club, this will hopefully bring in high end young talent in a few months (rookie draft)
Trade:
2011 1st (CBJ) 2012 6th (TOR) 2012 5th (TOR)
To EDM for:
2011 1st (EDM)
Comments:
Yes believe it or not there were teams that sucked more then mine! EDM is in the running for the lottery pick, so I traded up for it. While yes you can pull some nice talent from the 5th round (ive drafted an A offensive potential sniper before in the 5th) for the most part MEH! ill take my chances on the number 1.
Trade:
2011 1st (DAL) 2012 4th (TOR) 2013 7th (TOR)
To VAN for:
2011 1st (VAN)
Comments:
Amazingly people vancover finished in 29th this year (lol owned). I am putting ALOT of resources into this years draft, I know. But I am betting it will pay off.
Trade:
D Matt Jones (DFD)
To DAL for:
2011 4th (DAL)
Stats:
Jones 74 OVR 1 year @ 500k remaining C/C/C POT 27 years old
Comments:
This guy SSSSUUUUCCCKKKEEEDDD so bad. so so bad... he lead the team in turn overs by a huge margin. bye bye pal! was going to release you anyways.
And thus ends my trade deadline moves. next update will be the NHL league leaders and my club season stats.Last edited by BlueLineBomber; 10-04-2010, 07:05 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
Damn, already going into rebuilding mode. So many first round picks, but getting Patrick '20 cent' Kane was a good move that ensures a goal scorer other than Kessel, and having those top picks will help, seeing how it appears you'll be selecting high either way.Comment

That was a rough season. But I got what I seen coming when I started.
Team stats:
Games played: 82
Wins: 36 (24th)
Losses: 24 (21st)
Overtime losses: 12 (1st)
Points: 84 (20th)

Power play goals against: 76 (16th)
Times short handed: 354 (23rd)
Penalty kill %: 78.5% (36th)
Short handed goals for: 6 (13th)
Noteables:Phile Kessel fail trained this season ending with 14 goals 19 assists and 32 points in 57 games, he was injured time and time again. I hope he can move beyond this and return to bring a healthy scoring threat in 2011-2012.
Gustavsson dominated giguere. Giguere will be released in the off season and I will search for a number 1 goalie. I like Gustavsson but I dont believe he is my future number 1.
End of season report: Marlies

Times short handed: 359 (26th)
Penalty kill %: 85.0% (15th)
Shorthanded goals for: 6 (7th)
A decent finish. They made it into the playoffs, getting put out in the second round, but for the team they had, good on them! very nice.
Noteables:
Nikolai Suglobov (yes thats my 5th round sniper from this years draft) finished 7th in goals (15) 10th in assists (18) 9th in total points (33) and 7th in plus/mins (+8) despite only playing 46 games. Well done kid, I look forward to more of this next year.

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
Alright guys im going to start posting my Draft day to first pre season moves.
I made no trades during the draft this year, everything was very quiet on my phone. But hey not too surprised.
My very first move after drafting of the 2011 -2012 season was (drum roll)
Buy out:
D Jeff finger (DFD)
Stats:
Douchebag
Comments:
see stats catagory
I then went on to restock my club re signing players I felt worthy of contracts, draftees that had a good upside overall or in specific areas I feel need improvement on the team and through free agency, here is who I signed
Draftees:
Sign:
D Adam Larsson - 3 years @ 740 K (1st round 1st overall)
69 OVR (OFD) A-/A/A- POT 18 years old
Comments:
Thats what I like to see. Blue line depth depending, this kid may see NHL time this year. He is the perfect fit for my playstyle. Standing at 6'3 198 LBS OFD with a right handed shot. this is what I wanted to get!
Sign:
G John Chartrand - 3 years @ 500K per season (1st round 5th overall)
58 OVR (HYB) B-/A-/B- POT 18 years old
Comments:
When I got to see his stats this pick was under whelming. But never the less I will try to nurture him into a starter.
Sign:
RW Austen Brassard - 3 years @ 605K per season (1st round 26th pick)
64 (PWF) C/B-/B- POT 18 years old
Comments:
Future big body presence, hopefully he matures well in my system.
Sign:
RW Robin Soudek 3 years @ 500K per season (4th round 105th pick)
60 OVR (TWF) B-/B-/B- POT 19 years old
Comments:
Not bad for the fourth round, decent potential and 60 ovr to start
Returning players:
Sign:
LW Zach Parise - 4 years @ 5.6M per season
89 OVR (PLY) C/C/C POT 26 years old
Comments:
Zach is an awesome all around player, he can skate he can dish he can score. He is reliable in his own zone, doesnt take alot of penalties. He is one of the foundation peices of my plan for the future.
Sign:
C John Mitchell - 3 years @ 1M per season
79 OVR (TWF) C/C/C POT 26 years old
Comments:
John did okay for me last season, he ended up hurt for a few weeks, in the end this is a depth move, which last year I suffered big time from lack of depth.
Sign:
LW Luca Caputi - 3 years @ 1M per season
75 OVR (SNP) B-/B-/B- POT 22 years old
Comments:
Luca showed flashes of good hockey sense and scoring ability last season. He is still young, with decent potential and will add depth. Easy decision.
Sign:
C Tim Brent - 3 years @ 790K per season
74 OVR (PLY) C/C/C POT 27 YO
Comments:
Pure depth move. He will center one of my top two lines on the marlies and help to teach the young guns coming up in my system, untill they replace him. lol.
Sign:
LW Jay Rosehill - 3 years @ 500k per season
74 OVR (TGH) C/C/C POT 27 years old
Comments:
Jay spent the last half of the season on the leafs fourth line, and I couldn't of asked more from him. He ended with 10 goals and I think about 8 assists. He was a silent leader, using his physical play and never ending drive for the puck as a lesson to all that watched. Normally I would have let this guy go to free agency, but he was a horse for me last year. I reward effort, good for you Jay.
Sign:
C Darryl Boyce - 3 years @ 675K per season
73 OVR (GRN) C/C/C POT 27 years old
Comments:
Center is starting to look nice and deep!
Sign:
RW Alex Bezile - 3 years @ 630K per season
67 OVR (TWF) C/A-/B- POT 18 years old
Comments:
I'm thinking 3rd/4th line two way forward here. Lets wait and see how he develops ( I drafted him last year in the 5th round 122nd pick but did not sign him to a contract untill this season)
Sign:
D Tomas Voracek - 3 years @ 630K per season
65 OVR (DFD) A-/C/B- POT 21 years old
Comments:
Welcome to the enigma that is Voracek. A DFD with C potnetial in defense and A- in offense. It was so odd that I signed him anyways! I actually drafted him last year in the 4th round 105th pick but didn't sign him untill this year.
Sign:
C Kyle Turris - 5 years @ 6M per season
81 OVR (PLY) A-/B/B POT 21 years old
Comments:
It took me untill the last day of the resign phase to get him to ink a contract. I wanted 8 year, he wanted one. so we settled here. Turris is expected to be my star center for the forseeable future, he will be given top line roles, and I expect top line production. Lots of room to grow and lots of time to do so.
Sign:
RW Austin Brassard - 3 years @ 605K per season
64 (PWF) C/B-/B- POT 18 years old
Comments:
Career minor leaguer by the looks of it, but hey I need those to! depth chart is starting to look good
Free agent signings:
I have a very young team, I need depth and vetren leadership. I solved those issues in the free agent pool
Sign:
G Johan Hedberg - 1 year @ 690K per season
78 OVR (HYB) D/D-/D POT 38 years old
Comments:
Johan will be my backup in the bigs. Since I let giguere walk and only have Reimer being the closest to come up, I needed a legit backup to sit behind Gustavsson or whoever I pull in to be my #1 (suspenceful pause)
Sign:
RW Teemu Selanne - 1 year @ 690K per season
81 OVR (SNP) D/D-/D POT 41 years old
Comments:
I have always enjoyed Selanne, he is so classy and an excellent team mate. Plus my scoring was abysmal last year, chalk this up to vet scoring depth.
Sign:
RW Alex Kovalev - 1 year @ 1.445M per season
82 OVR (PLY) D-/D-/D POT 38 years old
Comments:
I wanted more scoring depth, and these vets will allow my future stars another year of maturity if they require it. Welcome aboard Alex, produce more then you did in Ottawa please.
Sign:
D Hal Gil - 1 year @ 1.55M per season
82 OVR (DFD) D/D-/D POT 36 years old
Comments:
Got alot of depth now, Skillsy here will lock down my end I hope. Plus I didn't know if I would be able to ship out Beauchemin and Komisarek or not, if so Hal "the Skill" Gil is there to take over.
Offer Sheets!!!!
So I decided to take a run at a couple big names. First I went after Steven Stamkos, but the lightning would have none of that, they matched me instantly and I don't blame them.
But I did manage to lure a big name player into my ranks. (GASP)
Sign:
D Drew Doughty - 5 years @ 6.005M per season
88 OVR (OFD) A-/B/A- POT 21 years old
Comments:
AHAHAHA EAT IT L.A EAT IT. It took me 22 days of free agency bartering to get him, I wanted him for 8 years but this is where we ended up. Never once did L.A match my offers. Yes you May have my first second and third pick this year. I would have given all seven if needed, Drew will quarter back my top units, I will be depending on him to put up points but I do not believe that will be an issue at all.
So to cap off the beginning of my off season moves I made one last trade, that I believe will put me immediatly into playoff contention combined with the moves I have made in the previous two years. I had a plan and I think I executed it very well
Trade:
G Calvin Pickard (HYB) D Francois Beauchemin (TWD) 2013 2nd (TOR)
To BOS for:
G Tuukka Rask (BUT) D Matt Hunwick (TWD)
Stats:
Pickard 74 OVR - 3 years @ 500k per season A-/B/B POT 19 years old
Beauchemin 83 OVR - 1 year @ 3.8M per season C/C/C POT 31 years old
Hunwick 77 OVR - 2 years @ 950K per season C/C/C POT 26 years old
Rask 87 OVR - 1 year @ 1.25M per season B-/B/B POT 24 years old
Comments:
Before anyone goes all nuts yelling that boston would never do this. 1) your correct. BUT last year Tukka played less then 18 games for BOS Thomas was thier starter. The goalie I sent back to them is a high rated prospect with high upside but I did not want to wait for him to develop, I need a starter now, my team is ready to jump to the next level I need an elite keeper, I have no problems trusting Tuukka to do that. Not to mention he should have been in my damn net anyways, screw you fergy. screw you.

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
A nice offseaon with your team, I liked the trade that got Edmonton's first rounder. It inspired me to do the same, I looked for the team with the worst record in the league(Detroit!), and traded a RW(80 something rating) a 5th and a 7th for their first and a scrub player. Thanks for the idea.Comment

Thanks man. that first rounder neted me an A- overall OFD, who is running my first pairing on the marlies this year. hes 6'3" 198 LBS 69 OVR. Next year I hope to bring him up to the NHL.Comment
