Re: NHL 11 GM summit
So I played my first game last night against Chicago and destroyed them 6-2.
the team felt so different. It was like the guys chose their spots and attacked, my first line was a threat every shift they logged, and my D core was solid top 2 to bottom 6. Tuukka turned aside 27 or so shots, Doughty put up 4 assists and Parise put two in the net, kane added one kessel snapped one in, selanne tipped in a wicked east, west glide to screen tip. and Turris blew a slap shot past the goalie before he could react.
Chicago seemed to be flat, they put one powerplay goal in, on a very sweet forehand back hand forehand stick to skate to stick deke by Toews that left Rask feeling dizzy and on the ice. and one shot that squeezed over his shoulder. I kept most of thier shots from the outside and my D men kept the front of the net clear of pucks and traffic.
Everyone played a very simple and effective game with effort. I could not have asked more out of anyone beyond what they gave. Very nice start!Comment

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
The goaltending seems to already be paying off, and a 6-2 win against a good team is a omen that good things are coming, or you switched the difficulty to Rookie (just kidding!)
Doughty was solid. Worth the three first round picks, eh?Comment

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
Since I lock myself to LD I play him alot, he is a physical presence with smooth skating quick acceleration accurate passing hard and pin point shooting, hezs hard to knock off the puck very durable and doesnt take penalties. The total package.
The combination of his passing and Kanes shooting has been amazing. Kane is always in position to launch a lazer at the net, and Doughty gets him the puck nearly everytime. Not to mention having two shooting playmakers in Parise and Turris lurking around the net and ice, makes for three forwards that can all bury the puck.Comment

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
For this season I want a winning record from the boys, there is enough raw talent here that a loosing record is not acceptable anymore. I would like to see the 1st round of the playoffs but dont expect more than that untill next year.
As for players, I would like to see more out of Turris, but he still needs more time to develop, so I will give him all the space he needs to grow. Tukka has been kind of soft, but he also needs time.
So far this fits into my 5 year plan, I have brought in enough outside NHL talent to establish a wide and strong base, I have a strong farm team and junior talent developing, there are 4 or 5 prospects that I expect to fight for roster spots next year. I am expecting stanley cup finals in the next 2-4 years with the talent I have in my system as it is.
On my trading block I have komisarek and Gustavsson, Detroit has made a pass at gustavsson, but offered junk, so I declined. I will mover both of these guys before, or at the trade deadline this year.
End of season I am hoping for a 40-45 win season.Comment

10 game report: Maple Leafs
Past ten games: (6-4-0)
Oct 4: 6-2 win against CHI
Oct 6: 5-2 loss to MIN
Oct 8: 4-3 wins against EDM
Oct 10: 4-2 loss to PHI
Oct 12: 5-3 win against PIT
Oct 14: 4-2 win against WSH
Oct 15: 4-1 loss to OTT
Oct 17: 4-1 loss to OTT
Oct 20: 2-1 win against NYI
Oct 22: 3-1 win against TB
6-4-0
I was expecting 1 more win in this 10 game block, but Tuukka has been a bit soft in a couple games, overall I am not concerned about it, the guys are young and the next two years will have growing pains. Still a winning record, I am happy.

Looking nice here, offensivly the guys are putting up the numbers, defense has moved backwards in a couple stats but overall my D is weaker than last year, but my PK is much better. Doing well.

Rask needs time. Hedberg will play more in the next 10 game block. Thats fine though, there has been games were Rask has been weak and others where he has been a complete wall. His weakness right now seems to be lateral movement, he is easy to deke.
Noteables: go go patrick kane?
Beyond Kane and Doughty the points drop off, but its fine, only ten games in, not really worried about it.

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
Holy ****.
Rask has played a ton so far. Nice to see you winning more for once, and 20 cent leading the way in goals and points. Even though there's a big drop off after Kane and Doughty, I wouldn't worry. Doughty could probably play a full 60 minutes, and cause some penalties, and Kane could score his points then.Comment

As it stands the points drop off alot after doughty and kane but they spread out across all of my lines, so while it sucks some of the bigger names are not producing to their capable levels, it is nice to see scoring from all four lines (Rosehill has two goals in ten games, go go 4th line tough guy. I love this kid!)
I would like to ask for some input from the readers if you don't mind. I re-read the entire summit and it seems as though I am giving too much information at a time, do you find this is true? a little less? a little more? just right? any suggestions?
Thanks to everyone who has been taking the time to look here!Comment

Re: NHL 11 GM summit
lol yeah, I over played Rask so I could get a good look at what he is capable of, normally I like to put a more relaistic spin of games played between starter and back up, which will reflect in the rest of the season. but now I know my D has to get stronger both physically and talent wise, It is amazing how easily Rask gets deked out of position.

There are stats you can remove from the update. Faceoffs and all that? Meh. Honestly, I'd cut half the stats, but expand on others, like knowing how your secondary scoring looks after Kane and Doughty, and wondering how the lines are.
The Minor league update could be shortened just to include prospects that may have an interest to the readers. I don't give a **** about Tim Brent, but guys like Larsson, Kadri, and them, I do have an interest.Comment

Rask has played well for you, hope he doesn't get tired and turn into Toskala - haha.
I agree with HW, simple but sweet.Comment
