A 7-1 loss? Though hardly surprising, because the Lightning are one of the best teams in the entire game, but allowing 46 shots is a huge concern. Nice to see a long-term approach with the signing of Osterberg (but at 24, how much will he progress). Your defense is below-average, and I'd suggest shipping some picks or players to stabilize it.

I don't know man, but he is still leading, he had the only goal in the Lightning game

Yeah everyone looses big from time to time, its just how easily they bypassed the D, Only Valabik held his own. I just couldn't stop them I stayed in lanes and forced to the outside whenever possible but they just did whatever they wanted to. I have been trying to shop picks + prospects but no one wants it, Anyone have a suggestion of a DFD to chase after?

        Islanders 10 game update
Welcome back everyone, it's been a rough 5 games to be an Islanders fan, the forwards are doing everything they can to hold the team on their shoulders, but when the goalies cant stop a puck and the defense looks tired and weak game in and game out, you cant stop the bleeding.
        Past 5 games

        2-3-0

5-4 win over the Maple leafs
        7-1 loss to Tampa bay

        7-1 loss to the Canadiens

Some roster moves to report on, it looks like the recent slump has brought Rob Schremp out of the dog house, he will return to his second line duties. It also seems some line shuffling has taken place. Obviously Parenteau has return to being a healthy scratch. Islanders coaching staff has moved struggling Trent Hunter up to the first line and brought Zach Parise down to the second line in an effort to spread scoring out, and hopefully ignite both Hunter and give Tavares a top flight play making winger to ice with.

          Ooof...

I think moving Schremp up will help the offense out a bit, but the offense seems to be scoring. Getting blown out didn't help, and having a bad defense is burning you early so far (Mathieu Schneider was a Islander when they wore the Fisherman jerseys, so that should give you a clue).

I'd play Turco more because he seems to be the more consistent goaltender between him and Roloson.

And Tavares is a sucking. Hope he picks it up pretty quick.

Yes it has been kind of sad how poorly JT has done. But no one else on his line is performing either, which is why I am moving parise down to help. I will be playing Marty more I was thinking a 70/30 split, mainly due to thier ages.

I have made a trade to bring in some experienced D, I hope to report on it in the next couple of days. As a little teaser, He is under contract for 3 years and a reliable NHL defender. He was serving in the minors for his old club

Hello Islanders fans! welcome back to the hub of Islanders information both in-depth and obscure! you are just in time to catch up on the latest news.

In somewhat of a surprise move, GM Steve Pattenden took to the press podium today to announce the firing of Islanders bench boss Scott Gordon, after which he had the following words.

"I was beginning to see a trend, it started near the end of last season, and I thought it had been dealt with. Again this same problem crept up in pre season, and it never left. We as an organization, from top to bottom need to compete. We need to be passionate, from amateur scout to Mr. Wang and everyone in between, we all have to want it more then the other clubs, we have to show that drive, that determination you see in Stanley cup champions"

"Scott was not showing that to me, we did everything I thought was possible, so I was left with this route. Scott is a good coach and I have no doubt will find employment elsewhere and I would give my own word on his coaching ability, but somewhere he lost his passion for this team. From here on out I will assume the coaching role, while continuing on as GM of the Islanders"

You know fellow readers. I believe this was the first time in a while where a room full of reporters went silent, I think everyone present just had a collective blinking moment, when that was the only action they could perform.

Not wasting anytime GM and new head coach! Pattenden went on saying.

"Just so I know I have everyones attention. We have a trade to announce!"

I swear people this guy is either crazy or brilliant!

                Islanders trade:
                D Bruno Gervais (TWD) 2011 5th (NYI)
                TO VAN for:
                D Willie Mitchell (DFD)
                Player stats:
                Gervais 76 OVR 1 year remaining @ 1.62M C/C/C POT 26 years old
Mitchell 83 OVR 3 years remaining @ 2.26M per season C/C/C POT 33 years old
                Analyst comments:
Seems like a youth movement combined with a salary dump for the Canucks to me, but I will say the Islanders just got a whole bunch tougher. In the end I believe both teams walk away with something they needed and wanted.

It would appear that Mitchell will see immediate NHL action, slotting into the Islanders top D pair, moving Valabik down to the second pairing. Which translates the D depth chart into something along these lines.

                Line 1
                M. Schneider - W. Mitchell
                T. Preissing - B. Valabik
                M. Eaton - M. Jurcina

Stay tuned Islanders fans, the 15 game report is headed your way!

Now that's a fantastic pickup. Not only did you avoid trading a high draft pick, but you've added another player who can hit and play solid defense. That, my friend's, is a ****ing a trade.

A rough game in Carolina! Islanders take away a win in overtime but pay the price as three players leave the ice injured.

As our updates stream in we are getting reports that Rob Schremp will be nursing an injured knee, but will continue to see action possibly in a more minor role, also stalwart defense man Boris Valabik will play through an injury he sustained after blocking three consecutive shots, after his left leg gave out Valabik collapsed to the ice and had to be helped off, missing the remainder of the game.

Left winger Jay Pandolfo will miss 1-2 weeks after pulling a hamstring in a vicious collision while screening goaltender cam ward, Pandolfo's absence leaves a wide void in the checking duties of the solid defensive third unit.

In his absence Pierre Parenteau (74 RW PLY) will slip into the fourth line. Evgeny Artyukhin (RW 81 GRN) will move up to the second scoring line, pushing Robby Schrmep (LW 80 PLY) down to the fourth line while he nurses his injury, which in turn will shift Blake Comeau (RW 81 GRN) up to third line duty.

Here are your forward lines until injuries subside

                    Line 1
                    (TWF) T. Hunter (81) - (SNP) S. Stamkos (88) - (PWF) B. Ryan (84)

                    Line 2
                    (PLY) Z. Parise (89) - (SNP) J. Tavares (83) - (GRN) E. Artyukhin (81)

                    Line 3
                    (TWF) F. Nielsen (77) - (GRN) C. Madden (81) - (GRN) B. Comeua (81)

                    Line 4
                    (PLY) R. Schremp (80) - (GRN) Z. Konopka (78) - (PLY) R. Parenteau (74)

Keep a close watch! we will be updating as the news comes in.

Boris Valabik would continue to play through that to boot.

Sucks to see the injured bug hit you (hey like the real Islanders!), but thankfully they are short-term.

                        Islanders plus/minus report:

Plus: Steven Stamkos has dominated the past few games, even when he does not bury the puck he is making space for his line mates, pulling defenders out of position and causing havoc in the offensive zone

Minus: Today mins will encompass our goaltender tandem of Matry Turco and Dwayne Roloson, both of them have produced lack luster performances, Marty has taken multiple penalties. The Islanders are at a loss to who wants to be the number one, as it stands no one is stepping up.

Ouch. 15 Games in at a 7-7-1 record. Even though that could be considered normal (for the Islanders), but sucks to see the goaltending hasn't improved.

Welcome back folks were going live to a press conference under way.

Pattenden: "Our goal tending has been a factor, a very large negative one"

Media: "How do you plan on correcting this? you have tried mixing it up, both goalies have had their shot. What is there left to do?"

Pattenden: "well we just got bombed again by the Sharks, and the fault lies squarely on Turco, simply put. Our scorers put us up 2 goals in the first, our D held them to outside shots for most of the game and they blow 5 goals past turco in the second, and another three in the third? Pathetic"

Media: "Where do you go from here?"

Pattenden: "I am holding a team meeting before we leave for L.A, we have played 16 games now and if we don't get the goal tending we need, our season is done. I will make my final decision tomorrow after I sleep on it, but at this point and time, we can not move forward with the goal tending we are currently getting, if I do not feel Rolly and Marty are capable then I will work hard to bring in a challenger, someone who wants the net. This is not something I want to do, as I believe the cost will be great"

Media: "Sounds like a snap decision to me Coach"

Pattenden: "snap? SNAP? You call letting in 26 goals in the past 5 games acceptable? that is an average of 5 goals a game! I will not tank the season, only 16 games in because I have two goalies who refuse to play. This is not a slump, its poor play, its lack of desire, no compete level, we have everything in place. Our forwards are putting the puck in the net scoring 15 goals in the past 5 games which is 3 goals a game, I cant ask for more form them. Our D has been strong, sure were a bit older and a bit slower but you know what? they do an excellent job of keeping shots to the outside, our PK alone in the last 5 games has been around 90%"

"Thank you for your time everyone, but this conference is over"

Well fans, Pattenden is surly hot under the collar just coming off the bench from that embarrassing 7-3 loss to the Sharks, personally I don't blame him for being angry. Some will say he publicly hung his goalies out to dry, but after what they have done. They deserve it. Tune in tomorrow as promised I am sure GM Steve Pattenden will have our answers.

                            Good nite readers!

Man it has been HORRIBLE simply HORRIBLE. I have never seen such a consistent poor outing from two goaltenders on the same team EVER.

I put Marty in and he cant stop anything, and chucks the puck over the glass constantly. I sub in Rolly and he lets in 3 goals off the hop

I start rolly and its 4-0 by the end of the 1st, replace with turco he lets in another 2.

I cant stop the bleeding at this point, my D is playing very well, even the team defense is where it should be, the guys are working thier *** off but the goalies cant stop anything. 4-8 goals per game on 30 shots? unacceptable.

I am afraid I will have to do something drastic, or my season is over.

Once again we are heading live to a press conference already in progress with Islanders GM and head coach Steve Pattenden

Pattenden: "Good morning everyone thank you for gathering on such short notice. As I said yesterday I have held a team meeting to discuss many things, mostly to reinforce what I expect of the guys. I know I was a bit... snappy yesterday but this meeting was not all doom and gloom, sometimes your club needs to hear what the plan is, where we are going and how I see us getting there"

Media: "Our sources say you have made a deal with Montreal, is this true?"

Pattenden: "That is correct, and I will be announcing the details shortly. First I just wanted to say that I believe in this team and what it can do, with our acquisition today we nearly have all of our pieces in place the future of this organization is indeed very bright, I am proud of the effort level of most of the players we have on our roster.

"Now, I have a trade to announce"

                                Islanders trade:
G Marty Turco (STD) LW Bryant Fairchild (PWF) 2011 1st (NYI) 2011 3rd (NYI)
                                TO MON FOR:
G Carey Price (BUT) C Mikeal Johansson (GRN)
                                Player stats:
                                Turco 84 OVR 1 year remaining @ 4.64M C/C/C POT 35 years old
Fairchild 63 OVR 3 years remaining @ 580K per season A/B-/B- POT 20 years old
Price 83 OVR 3 years remaining @ 5.245M per season A-/B/B POT 23 years old
                                Johansson 68 OVR 1 year remaining @ 710K C/B-/C POT 25 years old
                                Analyst comments:
                                wow?
I am... flabbergasted? I can not believe Montreal has traded away not one, but two amazing goal tenders within one years time. Not to say the Islanders did not pay a steep price (ha ha get it?) but.. wow!
Now, Johansson is filler, just a roster swap to get the deal done. Fairchild on the other hand fills a huge need in the Montreal system I was looking forward to seeing this child on the Islanders in a couple years standing at 6'4" and weighing 241 LBS this kid was a tank, with hands to boot!
Given Turcos play here on the Island, I am surprised Montreal would take him. Perhaps he will be more motivated in Montreal, in a hockey mad market.

Now I must take a moment to speak about Price. He actually has similar numbers to Turco this season, sporting 14 games played 3.27 GAA 6 wins 8 losses 89.6% save percentage. So in that respect we gained, nothing. This was a trade for the future, Carey is an upcoming goaltender that will solidify what GM Pattenden no doubt hopes, a brick wall in the net. He is under contract for the next three years and he is very young. I believe with all the pressure this kid was under in Montreal, this move will give him the chance to flourish into the star he is meant to be.

I will be ending todays coverage with Pattendens closing comments, thanks for tuning in!

"Carey is our future in net, and I believe Rolly will help guide him on his way, we now have a young up coming talent backed up by years of experience.

"Montreal actually approached me multiple times, trying to acquire Bryant Fairchild since the day after we drafted him. So when I approached them looking at Price, he was included in the deal"

"I had a long discussion with Marty, in which he expressed interest in moving on, this is not a normal move for me, I don't hire someone to trade them. That was never the intention here. Marty was looking for something else, and so were we. I would have preferred to keep him and let Price learn under two excellent veterans that knew what it took to win. But in both the players interest, and in the clubs interest Marty had to be moved, I wish him luck.
