Minus: Todays Minus player is John Tavares. John, where are you. I definatly dont see you out there. Coach Pattenden has moved him around alot to try and get some kind of production out of him, you cant say he is not playing with talented players. Come on John wake up

Still playing .500 hockey and Price is already paying major dividends for you. I'm hoping to see American-made Ryan and Parise begin to pick up the pace, but nice to see Stamkos scoring goals over a .5 clip per game. Tavares at least had three more points (but six points in twenty one games? Ooof).

Steve Montador in the league leaders in assists? The ****?

They really tried, huh? Did you give them orange slices and fruit punch after every game?

Sucks to have Tavares go down (even if he sucks so far). Funny to see you still at .500, which is only a miracle with the amount of injures you've had.

Pattenden: Yes, Carey has already had a huge impact on our club. His stats have improved since joining us, there is something to be said about how a team will play when they trust thier keeper.

Stammer has been excellent and I believe this is due to his work ethic on and off the ice. Parise is second in team scoring which is where I think he should be. I would like to see him with a higher GPG average but he also distributes the puck so well plus playing with two shooters on your line, he is doing just fine.

Bobby is having a bad run of luck. We all know this happens to even the best shooters he is getting some very good chances and is shooting enough sometimes you just don't get the bounces.

Pattenden: Actually the guys prefer Root beer and pizza if you must know.

Loosing JT hurts us, there is no doubt of that and no one is more upset about it then him. His compete level is so high and being frustrated with his lack of scoring this injury is even more severe to him. We all know that he wil be back soon but it will be a tough go with out him.

The credit of being 500 rests on the guys. Our line up has been a revolving door recently. With key guys loosing time it has pulled everyone together and we actually play a better team game then when we began the season.

Thank you everyone (hero) for your questions but I have a scouting meeting to attend so this conference is at an end.

                  Welcome back Islanders fans!

Just an FYI I have been really sick with a chest infection, so when I have not been coughing puking or sleeping I played hockey. I actually managed to finish off the season so below I will do a recap as of April 10th 2011 and I will have another post up soon about off season moves etc.

                  Islanders team report
                  33-37-12
                  Wins: 33 (29th)
                  Losses: 37 (8th)
                  OT losses: 12 (1st)
                  Points: 78 (26th)
                  Goals for: 235 (20th)
                  GFPG: 2.87 (20th)
                  Goals against: 258 (24th)
                  GAPG: 3.15 (34th)
                  Power play goals: 62 (26th)
                  Power play %: 18.3% (8th)
                  Penalty Kill %: 81.4% (20th)

Finished up sub 500 but I played really sick, so you have to factor that in, beyond that this is right around where I figured we would end up.

Re: NYI - Vying for greatness (NHL 11 BAGM)

Hello Islanders fans! welcome back for the 2011-2012 season opening report!I expect a fair boost of confidence moving forward from the club, even though last year was ended in a loosing record I think the guys will come back stronger then ever. Now lets get on to a re cap of all off season news!

Since Islanders GM and head coach Steve Pattenden shipped off all but the second round draft pick last year, our draft class was only one, which went unsigned due to lack of potential. No draft day trades were offered or submitted to the New York Islanders, so all was Quiet on that front.

As our loyal followers know we were heading for a big off season, as contract talks between the Islanders and LW Zach Parise and Star Center Steven Stamkos heated up. After long talks of terms and dollar amounts were shot back and forth the Islanders came to agreements with both super star forwards!

                    Islanders re-sign:
LW Zach Parise 8 years @ 5.5M per season 90 OVR (PLY) C/C/C POT 26 years old
                    Player stats:
Parise ended the 2010-2011 season with a full 82 games played 23 goals 41 assists 64 points and a +14 rating.
                    Analyst comments:
This needed to happen for fans to show faith in their GM. Pattenden risked alot giving away pieces last year to bring Parise in, now he will remain here for 8 years and put up big numbers, expect his production to increase over last year as there will be little time required for the guys to gel this time around.

                    Islanders re-sign:
                    C Steven Stamkos 5 years @ 5.5M per season 88 OVR (SNP) B-/B-/B- POT 21 years old
                    Player stats:
Stammer finished last year with a team leading 82 games played 38 goals 41 assists 79 points and a +13 rating
                    Analyst comments:
Another shot in the arm for Islanders bright future. Look for Stamkos to light the lamp this year as he continues his domination in the offensive zone.

The Islanders re-signed 5 other players which were:

                    Islanders re-sign:
                    D Boris Valabik 1 year @ 740K 81 OVR (DFD) C/B-/C POT 25 years old
                    Player stats:
Valabik was a fan favorite on the Island, putting up 78 games played 4 goals 22 assists 26 points and a +3 rating
                    Analyst comments:
I am glad to see Boris return for another season here in New York. He was loved by the fans, and gave his all shift in and shift out.

                    Islanders re-sign:
RW Joel Rechliez 3 years @ 500k 74 OVR (TGH) C/C-/B- POT 24 years old
                    Analyst comments:
This is a depth signing, Joel will continue to give the Bridgeport Tigers some grit and continue to provide some protection for the skilled guys.

                    Islanders re-sign:
RW Robin Figren 1 year @ 500K 72 OVR (PLY) B-/C-/C- POT 23 years old
                    Analyst comments:
                    Pure depth signing.

                    Islanders re-sign:
                    C Tomas Marcinko 3 years @ 540K 71 OVR (TWF) B-/C/B- POT 23 years old
                    Analyst comments:
Tomas will anchor the second or third line for the Tigers this season and most likely remain there.

                    Islanders re-sign:
                    C Joel Broda 3 years @ 645K 70 OVR (TWF) B/B-/C POT 21 years old
                    Analyst comments:
Once again, making sure the Tigers can compete this year.

After reviewing his rosters GM Pattenden then reached into the free agent pool to fill empty spots of concern

                    Islanders sign:
                    G Mathieu Garon to a 1 year deal @1.015M
                    Players stats:
80 OVR (BUT) C-/C-/C- POT 25 years old
                    Analyst comments:
Mathieu will sit behind Price this year, I do not expect him to see a whole lot of action. It would appear as Islanders brass wants to see how much young Price can carry.

                    Islanders sign:
                    D Ed Jovanoski to a 1 year deal @ 2.96M
                    Player stats:
83 OVR (OFD) C-/C-/C- POT 35 years old
                    Analyst comments:
Right now this is the Islanders glaring weak spot, Jovo will help fill that void while offering a point weapon to be used during this years competition. Definatly an upgrade to the options available last season.

                    Islanders sign:
RW Milan Hejduk to a 1 year deal @ 1.88M
                    Player stats:
83 OVR (SNP) D/D/C- POT 35 years old
                    Analyst comments:
Some veteran scoring leadership. Here is a guy that has known how to fill the net, and will impart what it takes to win to the younger guns.

                    Islanders sign:
LW Steve Sullivan to a 1 year deal @ 1.5M
                    Players stats:
82 OVR (PLY) D/D-/D- POT 36 years old
                    Analyst comments:
A work horse that is prone to injury, Stevie has always had the drive to win and compete, he has a nose for the net and knows how to finish, excellent addition in any role he is given to play.

                    Islanders sign:
                    C Vaclav Prospal to a 1 year deal @ 1.5M
                    Player stats:
83 OVR (PLY) D-/D-/D- POT 26 years old
                    Analyst comments:
I see this as filling in the void after John Madden left in the off season. Vaclav is more of a scoring threat then madden, and perhaps a better distributer of the puck, it will be interesting to see where he will fit in.

                    Islanders sign:
                    C Rob Niedermayer to a 1 year deal @ 1.45M
                    Player stats:
82 OVR (GRN) D/D-/D- POT 36 years old
                    Analyst comments:
Ahh here is your defensive forward, I expect Rob to play a checking role this season.

Not that I would be so risqué to save the best for last, but GM Pattenden had one move left up his sleeve, exercising his right to tender offer sheets he then went out and stole Drew doughty from the LA kings. It would appear that after signing Ilya Kovalchuk last year the Kings had no intention of securing Doughty's services.

                    Islanders sign:
                    D Drew Doughty to a 1 year deal @ 5.6M
                    Player stats:
88 OVR (OFD) A-/B/B POT 21 years old
                    L.A. Kings receive:
                    2012 1st (NYI) 2012 2nd (NYI) 2012 3rd (NYI)
                    Analyst comments:
Pattenden clearly believes in his ability to sign players in the off season, because if he does fail to re sign Doughty next year, surrendering a 1st second and third pick for a rental will be seen as a huge blunder, no matter how good the player was.

Wow, already on the second season.

Good job locking up Stamkos and Parise for awhile, and nice re-signing of Valabik. Good job poaching the Kings of Drew Doughty, and nice to see shore up your depth with some solid free agent signings.

I can see you making the playoffs in Year 2.

Thanks for tuning in Islanders fans, here is our 5 game report

First I will begin with injuries.

Boris Valabik broke his leg while blocking a shot during the Flyers game, amazingly enough Valabik finished his shift before going to the dressing room. Islanders have called up OFD Steve Pratt to fill a hole on the third pairing. Pratt has one goal and one assist in two games so far. Valabik is expected to be out for 4 weeks.

Steven Stamkos took a shot to his left leg in the offensive zone, shattering a bone in his leg Stamkos will be out for the next 4 weeks. Tavares will take over as top line center. Islanders have called up Tough guy Joel Rechlicz to eat up 4th line minutes until stammer can heal up and return to the line up.

                        Past 5 games:
                        2-2-1
                        4-3 loss to the Flyers
                        3-2 win over the Bruins
                        7-2 loss to Buffalo
                        3-2 win over the Flyers
2-1 OT loss to the Penguins

                        Next 5 games:

Were heading live to a press conference with GM and head coach Steve Pattenden and goaltender Carey Price.

Media: Wow, already on the second season.

Good job locking up Stamkos and Parise for awhile, and nice re-signing of Valabik. Good job poaching the Kings of Drew Doughty, and nice to see shore up your depth with some solid free agent signings.

I can see you making the playoffs in Year 2.

Pattenden: Yeah the second season of my contract came quickly. We believe that Steven and Zach are corner stone pieces of this franchise, and they also believe in our system both players were adamant they wanted to stay and Islander, it was more a matter of term.

Boris had been such a key piece of our defensive success last year, he was a staple on our blue line and I hope he continues to be so this year.

Doughty was ear marked last year and we kept an eye on his situation through out the season and off season, as deadline day approached it became clear the Kings could not afford Drew and were unwilling to make a roster move to do so, I will gladly take him.

We lacked scoring last year badly, beyond our top 5 players it fell off pretty drastically so with the addition of players like Sullivan Hedjuk Prospal and Jovanovski joining us it will make our first three units all dangerous

Media: This question is for Carey. How do you feel with your rocky start again this season? your performance has been.. lackluster at best

Price: Well for one, we are only 5 games in here. I have recently switched equipment brands and have not become totally comfortable yet, I will admit I am having trouble seeing pucks right now, but it will all fall into line soon I am sure.

Pattenden: I would also like to add that we have the utmost confidence in Carey moving forward, like all young goalies he is constantly maturing and learning.

Media: How do you feel about the loss of Stamkos and Valabik, this Earlie into the season for a long stretch.

Pattenden: It sucks. We need Stevens offense as we are again struggling to find the back of the net. Boris is a presence on the ice, he blocks shots he is physical and excellent player. Both of these guys will be missed.

In the same breath I must say that this is a chance for others to show me what they can do, its time for our deep supporting cast to step up, I am hoping Rookie Steve Pratt will continue his excellent play, thats for sure.

Media: Were you expecting more from the club?

Pattenden: Yes and no, we want to be a more aggressive team this year, I want to see the guys attack the puck, no matter where it is and we have been doing that, but it can also leave you out of position and that has happened alot recently, with some more tweaks I am sure this will iron out.

At the end of this season I would like to see us top ten in scoring and power play.

Media: Islanders special teams have been a huge non factor, what do you think is wrong Carey?

Price: Well it can be tough to nail down. I think the guys need to shoot more from higher percentage areas and the PK needs to tighten up, but so do I. We need to talk more out there and start having fun, there is alot ore pressure on us this year to win and we need to have fun with it, or it will cost us.

Thanks for your timer Islanders fans, remember to keep those questions and comments coming!

Hello fellow readers, just a quick injury update to report.

LW Rob Schremp will be out for the next 4-5 weeks nursing a broken hand.

D Steve Pratt will play through a sore knee he suffered in a collision in front of the net.

D Ed Jovonovski will be playing through a sore shoulder he suffered delivering a hit.

All the above injuries occurred during the Islanders / Flyers game in which D Drew Doughty got a game misconduct for boarding, and RW Bobby Ryan played the ENTIRE third period as a defensemen. I have never seen this happen before!

Ryan was later quoted saying it was an exhausting experience but he was glad knowing coaching staff could count on him in such a way.

Well. My ps3 HD crapped out, so I had to go get a new one, which means of course that this save file is toast. I honestly dont have the drive to redo all my moves and restart it. Dont know if I will start a new dynasty or not. kinda bummed me out
