Thanks HW, I`m thinking my focus is going to be a defender/forward/goalie then the best available player - I know Ted liked overseas players but this year the draft looks stacked in Canada`s favour, we will have to see.

        Big Man Taken Down

        Washington Post:

7/3/2011: The Scrappy Russian has finally taken a fall. After mixing it up with Dominic Moore during the Bolts game and winning the bout, Artyukhin (135 pims in 28 games with the Caps) left the ice holding his right wrist.

Listed as a sprain, the behemoth grinder will likely miss 2 games. In his place Matt Bradley (1-3-4pts, -2 with 49 pims in 45 games) will take his place on the 3rd line.

          Meh, not a huge loss.

I thought it was Ovechkin at first. Then I realized it was a scrub.

Trust me, he`s not a scrub. He brings a tenocity to the game that I have missed dearly over the last 6 games.

              Washington Post:

11/3/2011: 69 games into the season and the Caps have snagged a playoff spot on the back of a 55-13-11 record. Surpassing last years 54 win total, the Caps are headed for a 65 win / 130 point season, possible dethroning the Wings for the most wins in a season (65 back in 95/96).

15/3/2011: The goal king keeps motoring on as he surpasses his best goal total of 65 (set back in 08) and is poised to finish with an impressive 75 goals.

"I`m loving this year. Everything seems to be going my way, hopefully a Cup too. Go Caps Go". Ovi

22/3/2011: After missing 6 games with a wrist injury, Mr Scrappy is back and ready to protect his team.

                      Varlamov, Injuries

                      Washington Post:

26/3/2011: For most the of the season Neuvirth has been the stellar keeper in the net, but over the last 5 games Varlamov has really changed the dynamics, possible dethroning Neuvirth for the chance to be #1 in the net during the playoffs.

"We were thinking that Neuvirth would be the shoe in come April, but the last few games Varlamov has really stepped up his play and has thrown a rench in our plans. I guess for the next 6 games, an alternating strategy, we wil see who plays better." Boudreau

Having a so-so year compared to rookie Neuvirth up to Febuary, Varlamov has posted a 5-0 with a 2.04 GAA in 294 mins recently and has looked very strong/confident between the pipes.

"Last year I was part of a goalie tandum that let down our fans in the post season. I want an opportunity to rectify that and bring Lord Stanley`s Cup home." Varlamov

Both goalies are in contract years and its going to come down to the wire come the offseason. Will the Caps sign both or will one walk, it shoudl be an interesting summer.

                      -----------------------------------------------------------------------

26/3/2011: Luckily for the caps, one forward and two d-men won`t miss anytime as the 'shot blocking ankle injury' spikes its head thrice in one game.

Knuble (battling injuries all season), Carlsson (2nd in points for d-men on the Caps), and 3rd pairing shutdown d-man Ersksine all gloriously blocked shots during PK chances in Montreal. Taking those shots to the ankles, each player will have to skate with an ankle brace for the remainder of the season, but least they will skate.

"Its funny how it happened. We got sloppy in the 3rd and took some bad penalties. One after another, Knuble-Carlsson-Erskine blocked great scoring opportunities but left the ice in pain. We were concerned, but after the game Boudreau told us that each of them would be fine and that there was nothing to worry about. What a relief." Team Captian Ovechkin (closing in on the 8th spot in most goals in a season and only 4 pts away from reaching Luc's all-time LW season point total of 125pts).

For sure not a good time of year to start having injuries, but a great time of year to have two goalkeepers playing very well. I'm sure it will be a tough pick on which one to go with, but that is why GM's and coaches make the big money!! (ok, the players make the most money, but it sounded good)

Totally agree, would rather be contending with two hot goalies right now then none.

                            Just Bad Luck

                            Washington Post:

5/4/2011: Now injuries are part of any season but to be stricken twice with the same injury in less then a month, sure feels like the gods are against you.

The Scarpy Russian, who has amassed 163 pims in 34 games so far, has felt the injury bug bite again as he suffered yet another wrist sprain and will miss 2 to 3 weeks, possible missing the 1st round of the playoffs.

"I hit the boards hard, it hurt so bad I could barely keep my glove on. I wanted to keep playing but the pain was unbelievable. I cant believe I'm going to miss the 1st week of the playoffs. This sucks!" Artyukhin.

Once again grinder Matt Bradley, 5 pts and 51 pims in 52 games, will take Artyukhin's place on the 3rd line.
