RFA's Tomas Tatar and Brandon Saad Headed To Edmonton; Omark To Boston
            Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
            July 20th, 2015
Edmonton took advantage of a couple teams too close to the cap and pluck talented wingers Tomas Tatar and Brandon Saad from the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks respectively.

Saad will begin his time with Edmonton as a key figure of the Oklahoma City Barons while Tatar should instanly plug in to the lineup after GM Block M sent LW Linus Omark to Boston for RW Jordan Caron.

The Oilers were required to send a 2016 2nd round pick to Detroit for signing RFA Tatar. This leaves Edmonton without their first two picks of the 2016 Draft.

Edmonton talked with notable free agents Joe Thornton and Daniel Briere but both signed with other teams.

Rough draft but I think you made some good deals. Caron, in particular, can develop into a very good bottom 9 power forward. I really like the new roster breakdown tables. Good read as always.

What are your plans? I'd go out and get a first line D-Man to pair up with Schultz.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)

Not that concerned with forward prospects cause the core of the Oilers are so young. A promising prospect right now would have a really tough time breaking into the top 6, even top 9 now that we have Tatar in the fold for many years to come. I could only see a young center rising up and taking over for Tarnasky/Horcoff. That may have been Barkov if his potential didn't nose dive.

On the defensive side of the puck I think we're in good shape. Callaghan, Musil, Strait, Harpur and Chartrand and Skapski in net. I think those five are all future Oilers.

Does New Pairing Make Edmonton Cup Contender?
                          Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
                          September 28th, 2015
Edmonton is a franchise with a lot of history winning five Stanley Cup Championships in from 1983 to 1990.

They nearly added a sixth in 2006 but fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games. Until last season, that was the last time the Oilers made the playoffs.

Edmonton made it to the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons with a victory in their final game of the season sneaking into the playoffs as an eight seed. The Oilers would upend the top seed Nashville Predators giving the Western Conferences eighth seed a victory over the first seed for the fourth straight year.

The magical run would abruptly end at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks who swept the Oilers out of the playoffs in dominating fashion.

Although the poor showing in the second round was embarrassing last season was viewed as a positive year within the organization. Playoff experience was gained by much of the young roster who had never even sniffed the NHL Playoffs before.

It also revealed the leaders for the future.

The duo of Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins combined for 8 goals in Edmonton's eleven playoff games. The 17 other players that saw action in the playoffs had just 13 combined.

This began a lot of clamoring in the off-season for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall to be paired together on the top line. For the past four years C Sam Gagner has appeared as the top line center for the Oilers but that will change in 2015-2016, announced head coach Todd McLellan.

"Ryan and Taylor will start together on the first line with Jordan Eberle on the right side," said the coach. "We hope this unleashes a lot of productivity."

The move will bump Sam Gagner to the second line to play with wingers Magnus Paajarvi and Ales Hemsky.

On the defensive side of things the top four defense men return with Nick Schultz being paired with Ryan Whitney, and Ladislav Smid being paired with Theo Peckham. Change come with the third pairing where Valeri Koltsov beat out Sean Callaghan to be the newest Oiler on the blue line. Edmonton GM Block M sent away defenders Deryk Engelland and Carlo Colaiacovo at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft to make room for either Koltsov or Callaghan this season. After an intense battle in the preseason coaches and management alike agreed Koltsov is more ready to be an NHL blue liner.

Goalie Brian Elliott, who had a sensational series to defeat Nashville last year, returns as the starter between the pipes. Finnish keeper Samu Perhonen will be back to back up Elliott.

                            2015-2016 Block 1 Update: 6-3-1, 6th in WC
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is coming up big in the clutch in his new role so far in 2015-2016.

The Oilers hold 13 points after the first block of the 2015-2016 season. That point total could very well be less if not for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

The move of putting Nugent-Hopkins on the top line paid instant dividends as the youngster scored not once, but twice in the final minute of Edmonton's first three games to salvage points or give his team the win.

In the season opener against Chicago the Oilers were surely headed for a loss until Nugent-Hopkins struck with 34.1 seconds to send the game to overtime. The Oilers would eventually fall to the Blackhawks in a shootout but gained a point that looked lost.

In the third game of the season Nugent-Hopkins struck with the game tied 2-2 with Phoenix. Hopkins put Edmonton ahead with just under 14 seconds to grab a 3-2 victory.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored six goals in the first six games of the season and leads the team in goals after ten games.

The Calgary Flames have jumped out to an early lead in the Western Conference with 17 points to this point of the season. Last year the Flames were bottom dwellers but despite having made no acquisitions in the off-season things appear to be turning around in Calgary.

In the Eastern Conference Montreal and Ottawa hold the most points creating a trifecta of Canadian teams dominating early in this season.
