    2015-2016 Block 2 Update: 12-5-3, 4th in WC
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins netted a hat-trick on the previously unbeaten Carey Price to announce his arrival to the elite.
Beating The Best; Being The Best
    Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
    November 16th, 2015

The remarkable start to the season Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is having just keeps getting better.

On November 3rd, Nugent-Hopkins and the Oilers played host to Carey Price and the NHL leading Montreal Canadiens. Through 15 games, Carey Price had appeared in just 11 and won all of them with a sparkling clean 11-0 record. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was up to the task though and netted a natural hat trick and would later assist on a goal in a 5-3 Edmonton victory.

After 20 games Ryan Nugent-Hopkins now leads the NHL with 17 goals and a lot of his success is due to the emergence of fellow young gun Taylor Hall who requires just as much attention as Nugent-Hopkins. Hall joins Nugent-Hopkins on the NHL leader board as the leader in assists with 20. The pairing of Hall and Nugent-Hopkins is bringing success not seen in Edmonton since the days of "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky.

As a team Edmonton is still looking up at the competition but is within reach of the top spot in the league. The Oilers trail division foe Colorado by two points for the top spot in the division, conference, and league.

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings have been off to a slow start gathering just 14 points through 20 games. They currently sit eight points outside of the playoff picture.

Hall and RNH are electric together. Makes me feel dumb for not pairing them together last year.

            2015-2016 Block 3 Update: 18-8-4, 4th in WC
Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are proving to be a dynamic duo, but Edmonton still trails Colorado.
            Oilers Still Chasing Colorado Avalanche
            Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
            December 10th, 2015

With thirty games now in the books it appears the Edmonton Oilers have made steps in the right direction. Last year they were a .500 club the entire year fighting for a playoff spot until the very end.

This season the Oilers are winning quite a bit more than they are losing, they have improved play in the net, and the duo of Nugent-Hopkins and Hall is lighting up score sheets. Edmonton sits comfortable in fourth place in the Western Conference at the moment but the team has their sights set on more.

"Being content gets you nothing," said head coach Todd McLellan this week. "Ya know the media might say this is a great start for a team just getting back into the playoff mix. We don't think so, we think we can do better."

To do better the Oilers will have to catch the Colorado Avalanche to advance any higher than 4th in the standings.

Colorado currently sits four points ahead of Edmonton which also puts them four ahead of San Jose, the teams nearest Colorado in point totals.

The Oilers and Avalanche have played two of their six meetings so far and have traded dominating victories with Colorado winning 4-1 and Edmonton winning 5-1 the second time, both at Rexall Place.

Both Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall maintained their NHL leads in goals scored and assists, respectively. Nugent-Hopkins netted six goals in the last ten games and currently has 23 while Hall assisted on seven more scores and still has the league lead with 27 assists.

Defensemen Colten Teubert suffered a broken foot after taking a slap shot to the skate against the Anaheim Ducks on November 21st. Teubert is expected to miss over a month.

Defensemen Valeri Koltsov left the game with the Vancouver Canucks on December 6th. It was later revealed Koltsov suffered an MCL sprain and will miss two weeks or more.

Sean Callaghan was called up from Oklahoma City on 11/22 to replace Teubert during his injury. Callaghan paired with Valeri Koltsov on the third defensive pairing until Koltsov was injured on December 6th.

David Musil received the call up from Oklahoma City on December 7th to replace Koltsov.

Things are definitely looking up, the talent has always been there. Now they have experience and loads of chemistry. Who knows what could unfold this season if we keep playing this way.

                    You're darn right it is!

Who's on their roster? I'm gonna guess Kadri is a high 80, like an 89. Did they make any acquisitions?

Pretty much have the same roster as when this started as NHL 12 doesnt have a whole lotta roster movement.

Kadri is just an 85 with B- POT

                      L. Schenn is a 90 OVR
                      D. Phanuef is an 87 OVR
                      C. Franson is an 87 OVR

Joe Colborne has been developed into a full time NHL'er, he's an 85.

Here are their current lines as they make a run back to the Finals.

                      MacArthur (85) Grabvoski (85) Kessel (92)
                      Kulemin (85) Kadri (85) Lupul (88)
                      M. Mueller (81) Colborne (85) T. Jackman (81)
                      I. Zubov (80) Bozak (81) T. Wingels (80)

                      Phaneuf (87) Schenn (90)
                      Fraser (83) Franson (87)
                      K. Marshall (80) M-A Gragnani (81)

Edmonton May Find It Hard To Keep Up
                          Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
                          January 7th, 2016

As the league enters the 2016 calender year the Oilers may find it hard to keep up with those at the top of the standings, but not due to poor performance.

Scheduling issues from the NHL have the Oilers among a few teams with significantly fewer games played than the rest of the league.

Meanwhile, Colorado and Toronto, who top their respective conferences have played as many as five more games than their nearest competition.

While the stranglehold those two clubs hold on the top spots should last for a while it creates an interesting scenario for when the schedules even out.

Take the Oilers for instance. Edmonton has been on the chase all year long as they try to get out of the fourth seed in the Western Conference and now sit 14 points behind Colorado but with six games in-hand at the moment the Oilers are really not that far behind.

If Edmonton continues to play at their current level the Oilers could be competing for the Northwest Division title and perhaps the top seed in the Western Conference while the Avalanche spend most of their final days of the regular season watching from home instead of playing.

Sean Callaghan returned to Oklahoma City after D Colten Teubert returned to the line up.

David Musil played in nine games subbing in for the injured Valeri Koltsov before being sent back to Oklahoma City.

Updates are going to be real slow for here on out. Going on a mini-vacation tomorrow night and once I return NCAA 13 will be available but this is not dead...I may even take this past NHL 13 just cause Im so far along, instead of starting all over with a new NHL 13 dynasty.
