Sabres dominate Lightning as final pre-season game nears
Kevin Snow

With their NHL roster nearly wrapped up, the Sabres still have a pre-season game to play.
Mikhail Grigorenko Brayden McNabb, and Alexander Steen had two goals each, and newcomer Steve Mason made 25 saves as the Sabres beat up the Lightning 9-1. The Sabres had 40 shots on goals throughout the entire game.
"If we play like this in the regular season, some reporters will eat crow" forward Steve Ott said after the game. "I believe this is a team that can play in the playoffs. We're way too talented not to."
Mason, who will be splitting time in net with Jhonas Enroth, was sensational in goal, but credited his defense for limiting opportunities.
"I didn't face any difficult shots the entire game. The defense did a solid job of driving the shooter to the outside, and I was able to make some easy saves" Mason said. "They cleared the front of the net, and made it comfortable for me."
The Sabres final pre-season contest will be against the Toronto Maple Leafs, at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, ONT. It's expected that Jhonas Enroth and Steve Mason will split the game. The team still has to downside their roster before the season begins.

Sabres assign Pysyk to Americans
(AP) Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced that defenseman Mark Pysyk will be assigned to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League as the Sabres begin to cut their roster down to 22 for the season opener on October 2nd against the Detroit Red Wings.
The 21-year old defenseman split last season between the Americans and Sabres, appearing in 19 games with the Sabres in 2012-13. The former first round pick is the last defensive cut in camp, a decision made difficult due to his stellar play in the pre-season.
The Sabres official defenseman are: Christian Ehrhoff, Jamie McBain, Brayden McNabb, Tyler Myers, Alexander Sulzer, Henrik Tallinder, and Mike Weber.
The Sabres will need to make two more cuts before the start of the regular season.
