Sabres, Blackhawks Split Next Two; Buffalo Can Win It at Home
The Buffalo Sabres beat the Chicago Blackhawks 7-4 in Buffalo in Game 4, but the 'Hawks responded in kind back home in Chicago with a 6-3 thrashing of Eddie Pasquale.
Buffalo has a chance to take home the series in Buffalo.
—NHL News: D Brent Seabrook was fined $1,000,000.

Do you Believe in Miracles? Yes!
Moulson's OT goal gives Sabres long-awaited championship
CupCelebration.jpg
Matt Moulson scored 10 minutes into OT and 16 years of frustration and an eternity of despair were erased. Moulson's wrister from the slot beat Corey Crawford for Buffalo's first Stanley Cup victory (lost in 1975/99).
The 2-1 victory, lowest-scoring game of the series, gave a heated dislike between the teams some more material to fan the flames. Brent Seabrook started it, Matt Moulson ended it.
And that's how the Sabres wanted it to be. They didn't need any flash or pompadour; they became the first 8th seeded team (or if you want to be technical, the lowest-seeded team) to win the Cup.
Tyler Ennis won the Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP of the playoffs, but he would be the first to point out that the award could have gone to pretty much anyone on the Sabres. Luke Adam was clutch the entire series, Matt Moulson came on strong for the final, Drew Stafford was instrumental... the list goes on.
What won't be disputed, however, is that the better team won.

Did I mention the LA Kings won the draft lottery and we held their pick?
Also, do you want me to do a video for the offseason like last year?

Sweet, I'm on the first page when sorting by post count.
Anyways, thread maintenance time: this is on hold for a week or so: it's the offseason, and I need some time for schoolwork and studying. But it's not dead, far from it!Comment

Re: Menin Aeide Thea—A Buffalo Sabres Dynasty
Congrats on the hardware. I remember last year I was doing a Flames dynasty. It was game 7 both teams had played well throughout the game. It was tied at 2 heading into overtime when Giordano shoved the puck into Kipper's pad. Eric Staal poked at it and it ended up in the net. I think I might have bought out Giordano's contract. I was so mad!!!!"It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward"Comment

Now that I'm finished my 5000 word essay, I'm going to do a "grading" of every trade GM Akilles Yurevich has made in the last two years.Comment

Re: Menin Aeide Thea—A Buffalo Sabres Dynasty
matt_hackett_buffalo1.jpg
Trade: G Matt Hackett to VANCOUVER, D Yann Sauve/2014 4th to BUFFALO
The Sabres were in panic mode, having lost 1st-liner Tyler Myers to a concussion. Akilles Yurevich pulled the plug on this deal, sending goalie prospect Hackett to the Couv for a defenseman who now resides in the AHL and an inconsequential draft pick.
Quote at the time: Sabres Ship Hackett to Vancouver For Sauve, Pick
"Early Monday, Buffalo Sabres GM Akilles Yurevich announced that Buffalo had traded minors goalie Matt Hackett to the Vancouver Canucks for 23-year old defenseman Yann Sauve and a 2014 4th-round draft pick. This trade shores up a defensive depth need for the Sabres, who lost 1st-line D-man Tyler Myers to a concussion until January. The Canucks acquire yet another goalie prospect they can groom to eventually replace Roberto Luongo."
Grade: Loss (C-)

Trade: G Jhonas Enroth to TORONTO, C Leo Komarov/2014 2nd to BUFFALO
Sneaky good trade by Yurevich. Enroth wasn't necessarily a goner, but Yurevich managed to trade Toronto their 3rd-string goalie for a player that's played most games for Buffalo and a fairly important draft pick.
Quote at the time:
Done Deal: Sabres Ship Enroth To Maple Leafs
By Richard Thornburg Jr.
"The Buffalo Sabres have traded backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth to the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2014 second-round draft pick and center Leo Komarov.
The Sabres have been itching to send Enroth away, as he has been abysmal as this season: sub .900 save percentage, 4.75 plus GAA, and 1 win in 7 appearances. One wonders what Leafs' GM Dave Nonis was thinking, as he traded a solid 3rd-line center and a highish draft choice for what will likely be Toronto's third string goalie. The Leafs already have James Reimer and Johnathan Bernier between the pipes, so Enroth may just be in Toronto for a short while."
Grade: Win (A-)
