Leafs and Canadiens prepare for opening night showdown

The Toronto Maple Leafs wrapped up their preseason in fashion, posting a 3-0 shutout of the rival Montreal Canadiens, the same team that they will take on as the season opens.

Brandon Kozun and Phil Kessel both scores for the Maple Leafs, and Nazem Kadri added an empty netter in the third period.

James Reimer stopped all 39 shots that were fired his way, and the Toronto Maple Leafs head into the regular season with both high hopes and high expectations.

I also like the duo reporting idea for both the Marlies and Maple Leafs. Gives the reader a good insight on the future of the organization and gives you multiple avenues for us to venture into. Also a very nice shutout victory for Reimer in the final pre-season tilt.

Haha thanks! Although I'm actually scratching out my idea of a fullout double dynasty, as it would take forever to get through one season. I will be doing updates on the Marlies though, so hopefully I can balance it out a bit.

Gardiner Picks Up Five Points in Win

What a night it was for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who burst out of the gates to a 8-4 victory over their rival Montreal Canadiens.

Jake Gardiner had a night to remember, scoring twice and adding three assists to earn first star honours, while Canadiens net minder Carey Price had a night to forget, getting the hook after eight goals on 33 shots.

Brandon Kozun potted his first career NHL goal in the second period, and Phil Kessel scored twice and added an assist as the Toronto Maple Leafs jumped out to a great start to their 2013-2014 campaign.

Leafs Improve to 2-0-0 Against Flyers
Leafs Score Three Unanswered to Blow Past Flyers

Phil Kessel, Nazem Kadri, and Nikolai Kulemin score three unanswered goals for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who stormed back in the third period to beat the Philadelphia Flyers for their second win of the season.

Jonathan Bernier looked good in net for the Leafs, making 28 saves on 32 shots, but letting up three straight goals in a span of more than seven minutes in the third period, but it was a deficit the Leafs were able to overcome.

"This win really showed the character of this team," said Nazem Kadri, who finished with one goal and two assists, for a total of three points.

The Leafs now head home for their home opener against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Tyler Bozak celebrates after scoring one of his two goals on the night.

The Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs went back and forth until overtime was required, where Tyler Bozak lifted the Leafs to a 3-0-0 start to the season.

3:43 into the extra frame, Bozak tipped in a Dion Phaneuf point shot, his second goal of the night, sending the Toronto crowd home happy.

Rookie Brandon Kozun, whose family and friends were in attendance, scored twice in front of the hometown crowd. Jonathan Bernier made 39 saves on 44 shots, and his counterpart, Craig Anderson, stopped 37 out of 43 shots.
