    Two Wrongs... Or a Right?

It's gotta suck to lose the Stanley Cup. Like, really really suck. Losing pretty much anything is not fun. And this? You grind through a minimum of 98 games, probably more like 115 60-minute games, and then in 1 seconds it all goes down the drain.

Well, let's try to get the players whose drains were active their Cup. I'll be playing as the losing team for the Stanley Cup, starting way back in 1995.

    Game: NHL 13 (360)
    Sliders: Custom
Rosters: Accurate for appropriate Stanley Cup
Method: Play Now, tracked stats and venues etc
    Intensity: Maximum

What's up guys, AJ113 back with a little scheme. I'm super pumped for this, going to be an absolute blast. What's good about this is that it's not a typical grind, it's more of a thriller. What I love is that over the course (hopefully) I'll be able to use guys like Scott Stevens, Paul Kariya, Jarome Iginla, Joe Nieuwendyk, etc... Some of my favourite players (not Stevens) that I can't really use in a season.

New Jersey Devils (22-18-8) vs. Detroit Red Wings (33-11-4)

The Red Wings were arguably the best team in the NHL, featuring such players as Paul Coffey, Steve Yzerman, and Sergei Fedorov. The team acquired goaltender Mike Vernon prior to the lockout-shortened season, and the former Flames 'tender went on to post a 19-6-4 record. Coached by Scotty Bowman, the Red Wings went 12-2 in the first three rounds of the playoffs.
          Players of Note:
          Paul Coffey (D)
          Sergei Fedorov (C)
          Steve Yzerman (C)
          Vyacheslav Kozlov (LW)
          Nick Lidstrom (D)
          Mike Vernon (G)
          Chris Osgood (G)

The Devils, captained by hardest-of-hitters Scott Stevens, went 12-4 in the playoffs. Martin Brodeur was the team's biggest star, going 19-11-6 with a 2.45 GAA in his 4th season with the organization. Two-time 50-goal scorer and 1985 Calder Trophy winner Stephane Richer led the team in scoring with John MacLean and Neal Broten not far behind.
          Players of Note:
          Bill Guerin (RW)
          Scott Stevens (D)
          Claude Lemieux (RW)
          Scott Niedermayer (D)
          Martin Brodeur (G)
          [Drafted but did not play:
          Patrik Elias (LW)
          Sheldon Souray (D)
          ]

The Devils swept the Red Wings in 4 games, holding not-so-big-Red to a mere 7 goals over the 4-game span. Claude Lemieux won the Conn Smythe... and then left the team for the Colorado Avalanche, where he would win the Cup again the next season.

Of course, I'll be using the Red Wings.

Yeah, fixed that, must have had Richer on my brain.

I'm creating both teams and playing in Play Now or Playoff Mode (haven't decided).

Rapid Reaction: New Jersey 2, Detroit 1 (OT)

This was an incredible game through and through. The Devils pulled it out with a powerplay goal in OT to get the win. Mike Vernon was named 1st star, and rightfully so, as he made 33 saves and stopped numerous odd-man rushes.
The game itself was so fun to play. Lot of scrums, good smattering of penalties, solid goalies, good gameplay.

                    Goals:
                    1. (3:04 2nd) NJD: Randy McKay (Unassisted) [Turnover in the defensive zone and McKay smacked it home]

                    2. (15:41 2nd) DET: Steve Yzerman (Viacheslav Fetisov, Bob Rouse) [Good passing and Yzerman deflected it in from the point shot]

                    3. (5:53 OT) NJD: Scott Niedermayer PPG (Bobby Holik, John Maclean) [Rebound goal in the bottom of the slot]

Game Two: New Jersey 5, Detroit 2

                      Notes:
New Jersey scored the first two, Detroit rebounded in the second period with goals from Yzerman and Kris Draper but New Jersey pulled away in the third and final period with three goals, two by Neal Broten. Martin Brodeur made 29 saves in the win. Yzerman's goal was his second of the series, tying him with Neal Broten for first place in goals scored.

Game Three: Detroit 4, New Jersey 2

                      Notes:
Another back and forth game, with Detroit scoring the first three but needing a late goal from Vyacheslav Kozlov (his second of the game) to guarantee a win. Sergei Fedorov also scored two goals for the Wings, his first points of the series.

The difference maker has been Martin Brodeur, by a longshot. His presence has given New Jersey the lead from the get-go. I've been impressed by Bob Rouse (Detroit, D) and Steve Yzerman has played well. I need Fedorov to step up like he did in the third game. I've already outpaced the real-life Detroiters but here's hoping I can win at least one more.

Game Four: New Jersey 3, Detroit 1

                          Notes:
Steve Yzerman scored his third goal of the series on a slapper in the second period, but that 1-0 lead quickly evaporated. Scott Stevens smacked in a goal and Brian Rolston scored two, including the empty-netter to give New Jersey the demanding 3-1 lead.

Game Five (Elimination): New Jersey 6, Detroit 0

                          Notes:
The Devils take home the Cup with this win. It wasn't really close, but it also wasn't as bad as the score suggested. 3 Devils' goals came in the third, when Detroit just played sloppily, clearly overmatched.

Conn Smythe Trophy: Martin Brodeur (NJ, G): 1.6 GAA, 9.34 SPCT, 4 W

Colorado Avalanche (47-25-10) vs. Florida Panthers (41-31-10)

The Panthers, in only their third season in the NHL, made their way to the Cup final by beating the Bruins in 5 games, the top-seeded Flyers in 6, and the second-seeded Penguins in 7. Florida was led by Scott Mellanby in all major offensive categories, and John Vanbiesbrouck notched a 2.68 save percentage in 57 games between the pipes.
                            Players of Note:
                            Rob Niedermayer (C)
                            Scott Mellanby (RW)
                            Ed Jovanoski (D)
                            John Vanbiesbrouck (G)

Colorado's first season in the mile-high city proved to be a good one, winning the Pacific Division and finishing 2nd in the Western Conference. Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg notched 120 and 116 points respectively, and a little ol' goalie named Patrick Roy was traded to the team mid-season.
                            Players of Note:
Joe Sakic (C) [One of my all-time favourite players]
                            Peter Forsberg (C)
                            Claude Lemieux (RW)
                            Sandis Ozolinsh (D)
                            Adam Deadmarsh (RW)
                            Adam Foote (D)
                            Patrick Roy (G)

The Avalanche destroyed the Panthers in 4 games, allowing a paltry 4 goals and winning game 2 by the ugly score of 8-1. Joe Sakic was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy.

I see why the Panthers got crushed. I expect to get crushed, too.

                              Game 1: Florida 3, Colorado 2

Wait, what? This wasn't supposed to happen. The Avalanche were supposed to hit the ice hard, score a lot, Patrick Roy was supposed to be on lockdown against a team with a leading scorer with 70 points... but it didn't happen.

Tight checking, hard forechecking, tough shot-blocking, and a fantastic game from John Vanbiesbrouck (29 saves) gave the Panthers a 3-2 win in a series where not winning a game wasn't out of the question.

                              Goal Summary:

                              1. (3:11 1st) Jody Hull PPG (Ed Jovanovski) [A weird deflection off an attempted clear that somehow went in]

                              2. (19:49) Rob Niedermayer (Jason Wooley, Gord Murphy) [Pushed in a rebound off a point shot]

                              3. (13:53 2nd) Johan Garpenlov (Ray Sheppard, Rob Niedermayer) [Caught Roy out of position and put it in]

                              4. (17:06) Mike Keane (Alexei Gusarov, Mike Ricci) [Sniped it from the circle]

                              5. (19:19 3rd) Peter Forsberg (Unassisted) [Found a loose puck and put everything into the top-shelf slapper]
