Started From The Bottom | The Video Diary of Dan Petersen

    So close, yet so far...

Only a Memorial Cup stands in the way between me and the NHL Draft. With my draft stock in limbo, this tournament could be the hit or miss opportunity for me to make an impression on scouts from all 30 NHL teams.

First off, the Memorial Cup. Then, the NHL Draft. Has my path to greatness started?

Memorial Cup Round Robin Game 1 at Saskatoon Blades

Off to a good start so far in the Memorial Cup with a resounding 5-2 win over the host Saskatoon Blades. A pair of goals and an assist has me leading the tournament in scoring. Now I just have to keep it up!

Memorial Cup Game 2 vs Portland Winterhawks

Couldn't bounce back from a two goal deficit today. Tried to step up the physical game in the third period, but ended up picking up nine penalty minutes! Guess its alright though, five of them were used to knock that Winterhawks defence man silly. Really need to step up our game against the Halifax Mooseheads in our final round robin game--they're undefeated so far.

Memorial Cup Game 3 vs Halifax Mooseheads

Another 4-2 loss, this time at the hands of the undefeated Halifax Mooseheads. I still firmly believe that Halifax's first goal was intentionally redirected with the glove, but that call is up to the ref. Also should've blocked what turned out to be the game winning goal. Had I been there a fraction of a second earlier, the entire outcome of this game could have been altered... On the bright side, I picked up another goal and assist, racking up my total to six points in three games in the tournament so far. We have one last crack at making it to the Memorial Cup finals, as we take on the Portland Winter Hawks in a semi-final rematch to determine the fate of our season.

Memorial Cup Semi-Final at Portland Winterhawks

Had a great game! Only lit the lamp personally once, but managed to help my teammates light it four other times. After the game, the press had a few questions for me:

One more game left in our season. If we win, we can call ourselves Memorial Cup Champions.
