I'm no Vegas fan but would love to see Coach Peter DeBoer hoist that trophy. Been a fan of him since we had him in San Jose. Hated that we got rid of him.

      NHL WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF PREVIEW

      April 18th, 2022

It's every hockey fans favorite time of year... Playoff Hockey. Starting tonight 16 teams will embark on their quest for the cup. The most grueling 16 wins a team will ever have to face.

Starting in the West, the #1 Seeded Colorado Avalanche will play a beat up Nashville Predators team. The Preds limped into the playoffs after dropping 3 of their last 4 games. They will be a serious disadvantage with MacKinnon, Makar and Rantanen all playing at the top of their game right now. They will also have to deal with the 4th Ranked Powerplay, so even in tight games a bad penalty could be costly.

In the other Central Division Tilt, the Winnipeg Jets will play the Dallas Stars. The Jets are a very underrated team that plays good defense and works hard every game. Although, they don't have the elite threats other teams seem to have (no players in the Top 30 in scoring this year) they do have an ace up their sleeve in Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The Stars will be starting the series without star defenseman Miro Heiskanen; who is still recovering from a strained MCL. They will have breakout star Jason Robertson however, the winger having a career high of 36 goals and 41 assists.

Number two seeded Vegas Golden Knights will be taking on the Seattle Kraken; yet another success story for the NHL's newest expansion team. The Golden Knights will benefit from not having to navigate a precarious salary cap situation now that the regular season has ended. Although the team did finish on a winning note by winning 4 of their last 7 games; to pull ahead of Vancouver, the team will have to rely on their depth as they had some recent injuries. Forwards Evgenii Dadonov and William Carrier are sidelined with long term injuries along with backup goaltender Laurent Broissart. Star players Mark Stone and Alex Pietrangelo are skating again but not be 100% after coming back from long term injuries. From the Kraken's experience, for most of the players any playoff hockey is great. The team will look to Jordan Eberle for leadership as the team continues to make strides in it's first year. If the regular season is any indication, it however doesn't bode well for Seattle as Vegas won the season series 4-0-0 while outscoring the Kraken by a large margin.

The all Canadian Pacific Division Matchup features two teams that are quite familiar with each other. The Vancouver Canucks will take on the Edmonton Oilers. You will have to go all the way back to 1991/92 to when these teams last faced each other; with Edmonton taking that Series 4-2. Fast Forward back to this year and you have a very good defensive Vancouver team taking on the high octane offense of Edmonton. The Canucks appear to be built from the net out. With Star Goalie Thatcher Demko in net and three solid pairings of defenseman. Add the stellar two way play of Forwards Bo Horvat, Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson. But will it be enough to shut down the likes of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Evander Kane and break out Star Jesse Puljujavi. McDavid coming off another Art Ross winning 116 point season and Puljujavi playing amazing hockey on the second line tallied a career high 102 points (48 goals, 54 assists). With both these teams coming into the series healthy, it promises to be great matchup.

The interesting thing about EHM is that each specific coach has different attributes which will have some impact on the simulation. Unfortunately, from what I read some coaches are just great "Regular Season" coaches and don't have the "it" factor to win at the highest levels.

This will definitely be a big test because based on his past, while it's no doubt DeBoer is a great coach, does he have it to win the big games.

          NHL EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF PREVIEW

          April 18th, 2022

The Number One Seed in the East is the two time defending Cup Champions, The Tampa Bay Lightning. All the pieces of last years team are back for another go and a chance to Three Peat since the New York Islanders in the 1980's. They will have a tough test though, as they take on the very experienced and very dangerous Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins are also sporting a healthy lineup and with UFA's Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang due for new contracts at the end of the season; this could be a last hooray for Pittsburgh Three Headed Monster.

To no surprise the New York Islanders look to put together another solid run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This defensive team is very well coached and plays a solid two way game. They took Tampa to the brink last year and the two teams could very well be set for a collision course. They will be playing a very young and inexperienced Carolina team. Rod Brind'Amour has got this team playing hard and they show flashes of greatness with their young players, but do they have what it takes to compete.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sealed home ice advantage to take on division foe Boston Bruins. The the Leafs made enough adjustments to exercise their first round playoff demons. The Bruins do seem to have the Maple Leafs number however, winning the season series 3-0-1. With an aging core and the additional of Taylor Hall, the Bruins are hoping for one more playoff push. This matchup definitely has all the making of a great playoff match.

The Metropolitan Division Matchup features two geographic rivals that have two young teams that have been rebuilding and acquiring great young talent. There should be plenty of excitement with the likes of Nico Hischier, Jack Huges, Alex LaFreniere, and Adam Fox in the mix. Although, the Rangers may have the X Factor in rising star Igor Shesterkin.

EICHEL POPS 2 AS KNIGHTS TAKE GAME 1

            April 18th, 2022

Jack Eichel scored 2 goals; including the Game Winner, in Vegas 4-2 Win over Seattle.

We seem to have full circle as The Fortress was the stage for the Knights to take on The Seattle Kraken; just as they did to start the season. The Upstart Kraken defied all critics and pundits and managed to earn a playoff spot in their first year. Standing in their way, a formidable Knights team that want to stop them from what they did 5 years; and that's to make it to the Cup Finals.

After a sluggish start with both teams feeling each other out and playing cautious, Jack Eichel would post his very first playoff point after taking a feed from Mark Stone. The Knights would add to their lead with a Powerplay marker from their Captain early into the second period.

Sporting a 2-0 lead, the Knights would come out strong in the opening minutes of the third. After Lehner made a brilliant save on Eberle, Pietrangelo's stretch pass would send in Eichel on a breakaway. Eichel would bury it for second of the game. The Kraken don't crack however and answer with two quick goals within 24 seconds to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Knights would turn it on however and fire 23 of their 43 shots on net in the third period. Max Pacioretty added a reassurance goal with just under three minutes to play as the Knights take Game 1.

KNIGHTS SCORE 3 UNANSWERED GOALS TO TAKE GAME 2

                April 20th, 2022

Robin Lehner stopped 23 of 24 shots as Vegas bested Seattle 3-1.

Not wanting to go down 2-0 in the series, Seattle opened the game strong. Seemingly catching Vegas sleeping, the Kraken dominated the first ten minutes of the game; putting 8 shots on Lehner. Daniel Sprong soon found the back of the net, putting his Kraken up by one.

During the 1st Intermission, Alternative Captain Alex Pietrangelo mentioned in an interview that they feel they weathered the storm and are going to come out and continue playing their game. The veteran presence and playoff experience this team has built seemed to help as the Knights were awarded a Powerplay early into the Second Period after Pacioretty was hauled down with a blatant trip.

The Second Powerplay Unit didn't waste any time either. Just 23 seconds into the Powerplay, Coghlan's rebound would go straight to Marchessault; scoring his first goal of the Post Season. The Knights carried that momentum into the 3rd as they connect on another Powerpoint tally and the 3rd Line would get in on the action with Janmark scoring his first of these playoffs.

In all, the difference maker in tonight's game was Special Teams. Vegas went 2/3 while Seattle was unable to produce going 0/2. Both teams did an excellent job blocking shots and limiting shot on net for their Goalies. Vegas was also great at winning key Faceoffs, ending with a 63.2% Faceoff Percentage to Seattle's 36.8%.

SMITH SCORES HATTRICK IN DOMINANT GAME 3 WIN

                    April 22nd, 2022

Reilly Smith scored 3 goals in the Knights 6-2 win over Seattle.

In a pivotal Game 3; the first playoff game at Climate Pledge Arena, fans would go home disappointed as the Kraken would fall after an incredible 1st Period Onslaught by the Knights.

It wouldn't take long, with Jack Eichel scoring his 3rd goal of the playoffs just 18 seconds into the game. This goal would be a new team playoff record for quickest goal scored to start a game. It would only get worse with three more straight goals by Marchessault (2), Smith (1) and Pacioretty (2).

After a quiet second period Smith would net his second and third goals of the game just 30 seconds apart. Lehner was strong in net, stopping 20 of 22 shots as the Knights now take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Series.

STONES SHORTHANDED MARKER SENDS KNIGHTS TO SECOND ROUND

                        April 24th, 2022

Mark Stone scored 2 Goals as Vegas defeated Seattle 4-2.

With a chance to sweet their opponent, Mark Stone came out and led by example tonight. Off the opening Face Off, Stone took an outlet pass from Pacioretty and sniped a shot past Grubauer. This goal being one second faster (17 seconds) than the previous record, set last game. The Kraken wouldn't go away however, as they would equalize before the end of the period.

With nerves calming, Vegas would ramp up the pressure and dominate the second period. Peppering Grubauer with 16 shots on net, the Knights would connect on three of them. A Marchessault rebound would deflect to Smith, who connects for his team leading 4th goal of the playoffs. Stone would score shorthanded; after a sloppy turnover by Seattle, for his team leading 8th point in 4 Games. The fourth goal coming from a Pietrangelo point shot, that would snake it's way through traffic and fool Grubauer.

The Knights would end the game with 38 shots on net, while Lehner would have a relatively quiet night; only facing 29 shots. In the end, the Knights will now advance to the Division Finals for the 4th time in five years.
