Golden Knights Edge Maple Leafs 4-3 in Game 5, Move One Win from Stanley Cup Glory

      June 10th, 2025

Veteran Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo scored a goal and and assist in Vegas win over Toronto. Vegas now leads the Series 3-2.

The Vegas Golden Knights are now one win away from their second Stanley Cup in franchise history, after holding off a determined comeback from the Toronto Maple Leafs to secure a 4-3 victory in Game 5 at T-Mobile Arena.

Vegas came out firing, building a 4-1 lead midway through the second period, and withstood Toronto’s push to the end. The Golden Knights finally broke through on the power play, converting two of three opportunities, while Toronto went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

Despite being outshot 39-37, Vegas leveraged physical play (37 hits), blocked shots (21), and faceoff dominance (66.1% win rate) to control key moments of the game and tilt the series in their favor.

With the win, Vegas leads the series 3-2 and will have a chance to clinch the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday, June 12, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Vegas wasted no time igniting the home crowd. Just 1:28 into the game, Morgan Geekie tallied his fourth of the playoffs, tapping in a setup from Jackson Hallum and Nicolas Hague to make it 1-0 Vegas.

Less than three minutes later, the Golden Knights struck again on the power play. With Mitch Marner in the box for tripping, Max Pacioretty scored his 13th goal of the postseason at 4:28, taking a pass from Jack Eichel and Alex Pietrangelo to make it 2-0.

Toronto responded quickly, as Marner atoned for his penalty by scoring at 5:57, finishing off a play from Nicholas Robertson and Morgan Rielly to trim the deficit to 2-1.

Vegas wasn’t done. With Rielly off for high-sticking, Eichel added to the lead at 13:06, notching his 16th goal of the playoffs on a power-play strike, with assists from Mark Stone and Pacioretty, giving Vegas a 3-1 advantage after one period.

In the second period, Alex Pietrangelo scored at 3:28, finishing a setup from William Karlsson to make it 4-1 Vegas, their largest lead of the night.

But the Maple Leafs responded. Just 58 seconds later, John Tavares brought the Leafs back within two, with assists from William Nylander and Josh Anderson at 4:26.

Late in the period, Auston Matthews closed the gap to 4-3, scoring at 19:10 with assists from Marner and Rielly, giving the Leafs momentum heading into the third.

Toronto threw everything at Vegas in the third period, but Lehner stood tall, and the Golden Knights blocked 21 shots overall, frustrating the Leafs’ attack.

Despite outshooting Vegas and dominating board battles (63% win rate), the Leafs couldn’t find the equalizer, and Vegas’s penalty kill went 3-for-3, neutralizing key opportunities for Toronto.

Vegas’s ability to win crucial faceoffs (66.1%) allowed them to control possession in key moments, including the final minutes of the game, as they held off Toronto’s push to secure the win.

Vegas’s resurgence on the power play proved to be the difference, while Toronto’s struggles with special teams continued to plague them.

“We’ve been working on our power play, and it came through tonight,” said Eichel. “We’re one win away, but we know nothing comes easy. We have to be ready to finish.”

The Golden Knights will have a chance to clinch their second Stanley Cup—after winning their first in 2023—when they face Toronto in Game 6 on June 12.

For the Maple Leafs, who are trying to end their 58-year Stanley Cup drought, Game 6 is a must-win on home ice.

“We’ve come back before, and we believe we can do it again,” said Tavares. “There’s no quit in this group.”

Golden Knights Capture Second Stanley Cup with 5-2 Game 6 Victory Over Maple Leafs

            June 12th, 2025

Captain Mark Stone lifts the Stanley Cup for the 2nd Time in his career after Vegas 5-2 Win over Toronto in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.

The Vegas Golden Knights are Stanley Cup champions once again. With a gritty 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at Scotiabank Arena, the Golden Knights secured their second championship in franchise history, adding to their 2023 triumph and further solidifying their status as a modern NHL powerhouse.

The final score didn’t reflect the game’s tension, as Vegas scored two empty-net goals in the final minute to pull away. In reality, it was a tight, hard-fought contest, with heavy checking, limited whistles, and playoff hockey at its best.

Vegas’s physical dominance (32 hits), shot-blocking (32 blocks), and timely scoring made the difference, while rookie Oliver MacDonald etched his name into hockey lore, delivering a hat trick in his return to the lineup after missing Game 5.

Toronto came out with urgency, taking a 1-0 lead at 4:17 of the first period, when John Tavares scored off a setup from Michael Bunting and Frank Nazar, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

But Oliver MacDonald answered just over four minutes later, tying the game 1-1 at 8:51, finishing a feed from Jack Eichel and Nathan Gaucher. It was his third goal of the playoffs and just the beginning of a career night.

At 11:10, Brendan Brisson gave Vegas the lead, scoring his third of the postseason, again assisted by Gaucher and Morgan Geekie, making it 2-1 Vegas.

The second period saw no scoring, but plenty of physicality and defensive hockey, as both teams battled along the boards and through the neutral zone.

The referees let the players play, with no power plays awarded in the game after Vegas went 0-for-1 in the first period.

In the third, Sam Reinhart gave Vegas breathing room at 11:13, scoring his eighth of the playoffs off a pass from Max Pacioretty and Brayden McNabb, extending the lead to 3-1.

Toronto clawed back at 13:29, when Matthew Knies scored to make it 3-2, assisted by Chandler Stephenson and Topi Kokkonen, setting up a tense final stretch.

But Vegas’s defense, shot-blocking, and the poise of Robin Lehner in goal held firm.

With under a minute left and Toronto’s net empty, MacDonald delivered again, scoring his second of the night at 19:19 from Zach Whitecloud. Just 19 seconds later, he completed the hat trick with his fifth playoff goal, assisted by Shea Theodore and Eichel, sealing the win and the championship.

Mark Stone was awarded his second Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, having won his first in 2023. His consistent two-way dominance, leadership, and timely goals narrowly edged out Jack Eichel and Max Pacioretty in voting.

“This group battled every step of the way,” said Stone. “We faced adversity, we stuck together, and now we’re champions again. It’s the greatest feeling in the world.”

Eichel finished the playoffs with 16 goals and 28 points, while Pacioretty tallied 13 goals and countless clutch assists, but it was Stone’s all-around impact that earned him the honor.

For Toronto, the loss ends a memorable run to their first Stanley Cup Final since 1967. The Leafs fought hard, but their inability to convert on special teams and break through Vegas’s defensive wall ultimately cost them.

“They played like champions tonight,” said Tavares. “We gave it everything we had, but they made the plays when it mattered. We’ll be back.”

With two Stanley Cups in three seasons, the Vegas Golden Knights have firmly established themselves as one of the NHL’s elite franchises. From expansion team to perennial contender, Vegas has become the gold standard.

As confetti rained down and the Stanley Cup was hoisted once more, Vegas celebrated not just a victory, but a legacy in the making.

“We’re not done,” said Stone. “This is our time, and we’re going to enjoy every second of it.”

Golden Knights GM Evan McCabe Gearing Up for NHL Entry Draft with Two Late First-Round Picks

                  June 14th, 2025

Vegas will have the 28th and 32nd Overall Picks in the First Round of the 2025 NHL Draft.

With the Stanley Cup celebrations barely winding down, Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Evan McCabe has already turned his attention to the next chapter of the franchise’s future: the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, set for June 20th in Chicago.

Armed with two first-round selections — 28th overall (via Edmonton) and 32nd overall (their own pick); McCabe and his scouting team are entering the draft with flexibility, momentum, and championship confidence.

Coming off their second Stanley Cup in franchise history, Vegas has proven they know how to build a winner. Now, McCabe is focused on keeping the organization’s pipeline full and competitive for years to come.

While the Golden Knights’ core remains intact — with stars like Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, and Shea Theodore leading the charge; McCabe understands the importance of developing talent internally.

“We’ve built a team that competes now, but we’re always thinking about tomorrow,” McCabe said. “Having two picks in the first round gives us options, to draft smart, or to potentially move up if there’s someone we really like.”

Vegas has maintained a balanced prospect pool in recent years, with younger players like Oliver MacDonald, Nathan Gauthier, and Brendan Brisson contributing during the Cup run. Now, the goal is to add more players who can either grow into the next wave or be developed into assets.

The Golden Knights own the 28th overall pick, acquired from Edmonton as part of a previous trade, and their own 32nd overall selection, earned after hoisting the Cup.

While selecting late in the first round often means less fanfare, McCabe sees opportunity:

“Every draft has depth. Some of the NHL’s biggest stars have come from the 20s and 30s,” he said. “It’s about finding the right player who fits our culture, someone with skill, hockey sense, and the character we value.”

With a deep pool of talent in this year’s draft, especially among forwards and two-way defensemen, Vegas is expected to target players with versatility and upside, though McCabe isn’t ruling anything out.

As is tradition with Vegas front offices, the possibility of trading up or leveraging picks in a deal remains on the table.

“We’re not afraid to be aggressive if there’s a guy we believe in,” McCabe said. “But we also know you can find value by staying patient and trusting the board.”

Rumors have swirled that the Golden Knights may consider bundling their two late picks to move up into the top 20, depending on how the board shakes out.

Under McCabe’s guidance, the Golden Knights have focused on drafting players with high hockey IQ, skating ability, and strong compete levels. Traits seen in recent draftees like Hallum, Gaucher, and Matikka.

“We love players who can think the game and elevate in pressure moments,” McCabe noted. “That’s what wins in June.”

Expect Vegas to stick to that philosophy again this year, looking for players who may not be NHL-ready immediately but who can develop into future contributors on a team built to win.

The Golden Knights are no strangers to big trades or bold decisions, but McCabe also knows that consistent drafting is what sustains success over time.

“Lifting the Cup is always the goal,” he said. “But we also want to make sure we’re drafting players who can be part of the next wave. The guys who’ll carry the torch when the time comes.”

With two first-round picks in hand, and a championship-caliber team already in place, Evan McCabe and the Golden Knights front office are set to make their mark once again; this time, on the draft floor.

                        Thanks Man, I appreciate it.

Yeah, unfortunately for Pacioretty he's coming into the final year of his contract as a 37 year old and I wanted to unload that contract while he still had some trade value.

So, it looks like OS went through a Forum Change and I'm not sure how I feel about the format. I suppose it'll take a little bit getting use to.

I'll try to keep plugging away at it because I still have the Offseason to post and I'm a bit disappointed that my Knights were eliminated last night.

Have not had the motivation to keep posting this Dynasty since the migration change. It's funny that there is speculation that Marner might be traded to Vegas because I was able to sign him in Free Agency in my Sim. That's why I traded Pacioretty. I haven't started Simming the next season yet, so I don't know how well he will do.
