Re: Tyler Starks ~~ Reign on the Pitch ~~

    February 1st, 2012

    Swindon Town (11-12-6) 45 Points
    Sixth in nPower League 2

The transfer window has closed, and Swindon Town did little more than some spring cleaning. Cutting out some of the fat at the striker position, they loaned out a few of the youth, and brought in one midfielder. Their attempts at a defender fell apart as the transfer window closed before a deal could be struck up. On the positive side, the money left over will allow for the scouting of some youth, and have said to be taking a search in Egypt to scout some talent, their scout Billy Izzet responsible for that. While newly hired scout Mirko Jelacic whom has a little more experience and is slightly better at scouting just inked his contract and is heading to the clubhouse before being sent out on his own assignment.

A big move was an over from the Bristol Rovers (4th) who were trying to proach McCormack from the starting XI. Tyler Starks denied the offer which even despite being larger than the estimated value of the midfielder, the euros were not enough to tilt the scales in favor of giving the competition their own talent.

Swindon Town is out of all the tournaments, only advancing out of the initial round, once. For the Johnstone Paint Cup. They would be eliminated in the second round. Yet as the board said, it was not expected for this squad to compete in the numerous cups. They are happily satisfied to be in the top of the table.

Lander Gabilondo has been a bright point for this squad, starting the season as a fringe player that was stuck on the reserves he has been developing into the best of the striking core that this team has. At the age of 24, he still has some development ahead of him, but Tyler Starks has to be proud of his progress.

Swindon Town would go (2-1-1) through a strong November ringing up seven points, suffering their only loss of the month to Crawley Town in a 1-0 decision. They would also be knocked out in the first match of the F.A. Cup, in a 1-0 loss to Wycombe.

With an extremely busy December, Swindon Town would go (4-1-1) in what may have fully turned their season around. Opening the month with a 4-0 game, and knocking off Burton Albion twice with the same scoreline of 3-1, they quickly pulled themselves up the table.

Finally in a three game January, they would get points in every matchup going (2-1-0) including a goal in the 89th minute to stop Accrington Stanley from pulling off an upset. Their lone victory against Macclesfield Town, a 1-0 victory. With their attention focused on the transfer window it was fairly uneventful, with the only new arrival being Omar Rams, the midfielder should contribute in his opening match, but their biggest needs in the defensive end of the pitch went unanswered.

      Swindon Town (12-13-8) 49 Points
Tied for Sixth with three other clubs

      End of February

It was a tough February with Swindon Town only gaining four points, dropping two contests. Working out their strikers with Abdullah returning to his parent team, Swindon Town opted out of loaning him out yet again in favor of freeing up that slot to develop their own talent which seems to be blossoming at the striker position.

Yet with the loss in their first fixture of the month, they would manage to rebound at home against Plymouth Argyle where they would win 2-1, to keep themselves in the playoffs. Three days later when they head out to Shrewsbury Town, they would end up in a 3-3 draw. Leading up to the following week, with Southend United upsetting Swindon Town with a late goal that brought them on top.

Tavares suffered yet another extended injury and will miss at least another month of action, after tearing his hamstring. While Lukas Magera is rehabbing and in the gym, after hurting his Lateral Collateral Ligament. Omar Ramos made a big wave in his first start with Swindon Town, in their loss to Southend United, assisting on both goals.

Swindon Town loses every game in March

        Swindon Town (12-13-14) 49 Points
        16th in nPower League 2

All talk of Swindon Town pulling out a miracle season have been eliminated after a pointless March campaign that saw the Swindon Town side drop an astounding ten places in the table and things were looking bleak. Getitng stuck with a clean sheet in three of six games was not what Manager Tyler Starks wanted and even envoked a board meeting to discuss the fate of the Manager whom they decided was preforming well enough to maintain his job. After all he is still in the middle of the table as the squad had set fourth late last year.

Starting with a loss in Feburary, Swindon Town will head into April on a seven game losing streak and having not won a game since the middle of February. "It's disappointing to say the least. We just are not preforming and our weakness in the defense is hurting us." Spoke an obviously frusturated Starks.

Swindon Town also announced the signing of 16 year old, Basim Akwal of Egypt, to back up Lanzano at goal keeper, he will see duty in the teams first game of April to give Lanzano a break. Swindon Town will play Hereford United for the first of six April matches. Only seven more fixtures left to go in this season, and Swindon Town is eleven points out of seventh place, needing sixty to catch up to Southend United. Yet the talk is to at least draw a game before worrying about making the playoffs. But winning out is seeming to be the only way for this side to get in.

Swindon Town turns fortunes but still finishes in bottom twelve

          Swindon Town (15-16-15) 61 Points

          #14 in nPower League 2

          Top Scorer: Kerrouche - ST - (17)
          Most Appearances: Caddis - RB - (46)
          Assists: McCormack - CM - (6)
          Clean Sheets: Lanzano - GK - (10)
          Yellow Cards: Flint - CB - (4)
Devera and Ferry each received one red card
MVP: Kerrouche - ST - Form AVG: 67

The season has ended for Swindon Town, an early onslaught cut short by a lack of defensive depth and firepower left the team securely in the middle. They beat the teams they should for the most part but really couldn't compete with the top teams. They will compete yet again in the nPower League 2, with the same manager is yet known as the board will seek to discuss matters later in time.

Kerrouche proved to be the most valuable player picking up four goals in the final month of play, helping the ailing Swindon Town side to pick up their performance and salvage their season. Sadly for them despite an impressive month the upper half of the league held strong and they could only move up four places despite a win streak and only losing once.

Injuries played a huge part in the season with several key pieces of the mid field missing considerable time and the defense was absolutely left in tatters after failed transfer negotiations left them without depth and needed strength in the backfield.

Sixteen year old Goal keeper, Akwal was impressive managing to record one clean sheet in three appearances. At only sixteen years old the feat is impressive. Akwal through his limited play managed to be ranked higher than Lanzano (63 to 62), but obviously he needs his time to develop.

The squad will be bringing back several players that were loaned out and it's obvious that they will need to yet again trim the fat at the striker position and seek some depth for the defenders, and needing one or two more pieces to achieve their goal of promotion. All that has been known after this season was that when this team plays, they can keep up with anyone but when injuries start rolling through and fatigue sets in, they are helpless.

Swindon Town seek a mid-table finish again

Tyler Starks retained his place as the manager for the Swindon Town club despite other club offers including an offer to manage at a League 1 squad. The club resigned everyone besides Clarke in the offseason not wanting to develop the player. The squad would also make a move to sign Paul Brown a sixteen year old from America and trimmed some of the squad.

The new roster was built around youth yet again, some older players left the squad and the friendlies record of (0-1-2) was dedicated to Starks giving his youth all three games. That may prove useful as some players may not get many other appearances. Lanzano is obviously on his way out and was transfer listed but the team said it is mainly fielding offers and will keep contract tight with Lanzano before a deal is completed. Free Agent Joe Smith was signed but it is unknown if he will truely be the starter if he will be just be transferred to gather some budget.

            Starting XI
            GK: Smith (77) - 28 Years Old - Canada
            RB: Flint (57) - 23 Years Old - England
            RCB: Lamas (64) - 28 Years Old - Uruguay
            LCB: Devera (63) - 25 Years Old - England
            LB: Caddis (62) - 24 Years Old - Scotland
RM: Omar Ramos (67) - 24 Years Old - Spain
RCM: McCormack (63) - 28 Years Old - Republic of Ireland
            LCM: Tavares (69) - 29 Years Old - Senegal
            LM: Ritchie (63) - 22 Years Old - England

LS: Lander Gabilondo (64) - 25 Years Old - Spain

            A Swindon Town Preview
            Quoted from other sources

            "Predicted Finish: 12
            Key Player : Joe Devera
Everyone connected with Swindon Town will be hoping the squad is capable of avoiding any turblence at the wrong end of the league by securing a mid-table position with a minimum of fuss. As a midfielder, Mickael Tavares will certainly be expected to prevent too much panic at the back, while also helping ot create plenty of clear-cut scoring opportunities going forward. And while he'll be looking to score as much as possible, a more regular supply of goals may come via the feet of Forward Medhi Kerrouche. Defender Joe Devera will have the slightly less glamorous role of helping to keep clean sheets, although it will be no surprise to see him pop up with goals of his own from time-to-time. Will Evans has done well at youth level and may get his opportunity this year. If he does, he shouldn't look out of place."

              Don't underestimate the youth!
              Swindon Town upsets Charlton Athletic

Swindon Town broke out to an early lead when a pile up in front of the Charlton goal left the Keeper on the ground and Kerrouche managed to get his foot on the ball running it into the goal after recovering it right infront of the goal. The lone goal was a rarity and one of the few pileups in this game. "The ball was there and I knew I didn't have time to do anything more than run with it. The keeper was up and after me but I was in." Spoke Kerrouche in his interview.

Things would normalize earliy in the second half in the 49th minute when Wagstaff powered a shot into net to tie the game at one a piece. Both teams would utilize all three substitutes and the biggest one coming in was Paul Brown, the sixteen year old made sure to let his name be known.

The pitch was in a back and fourth affair as the game neared the final minutes, in the final few minutes the Swindon Town side started to mount an attack. Paul Brown received a pass on the side of the pitch and turned goalward he managed to outrun the tired midfielder and entered the penalty box on the very corner and neared the goal, before letting loose from the left of the goal he would curve a shot in that would hit the right corner and the youngster would be mobbed his teammates tackling him to the ground as he would hit the game winner in the 89th minute.

"I can't explain it, I was a signee at the very end of last season and [Tyler] Starks told me that I might not see the pitch at all this season, but I showed him I am worth that substitute spot. The sensation of that ball hitting the net, the team erupting. It was surreal." Spoke Paul Brown the sixteen year old striker was playing in his first tournament game.

Penalties decide the winner: Swindon Town
0-0 tie at the end of regulation ; 1-1 tie at the end of extra time

Another late hero would emerge as Swindon Town will advance to the second round of the Johnstone Paint Cup for the second consecutive season. Doing so thanks in large to Esajas whose goal in the 119th minute would send the game to penalty kicks. Striker Midson was the first to score a goal when on a corner he would bicycle kick a ball into the corner of the net to make it 0-1.

It would take until Esajas would intercept a pass and would bend a ball around the keeper to tie the game for Swindon Town to bring the game to a draw, where penalty kicks were held. (As a note, Brown had a shot bounce off the post in the 120th minute and the ball would be cleared to end the game.

In the penalty kicks, the Swindon Town side was perfect knocking in their first three attempts, and their goal tender would do beautifully, saving the first attempt, and the second attempt would miss the net. On the third the attacker would hit the net for the first time to make it 3-1. Leaving McCormack to come up, and he would knock it into the top left corner of the net as he got piled on by his teammates.

Swindon Town advances past their League 2 rivals and in yet another tournament have made it to the second round, and are currently undefeated in League 2 play (3-0-0). This team is looking massively improved from last year.

Swindon Town has shooting practice on Brighton
Peter Browns' two goals propelled Swindon Town in his first start

Not too long after the acquisitions of center fielders, Ros and Jason Culina it was time to head into the second round of the Carling (League) Cup. The Swindon Town did everything they could to impress. On a day that saw several mis-sided fixtures, this was just another with a 5-1 victory for the Swindon Town side that managed 17 shots on net.

The squad from the nPower Championship league did everything they could to embarrass themselves, including surrendering two goals to Peter Brown who is now at three for the Cup. Brighton is struggling in their league play as well at (1-0-3) they are at the bottom and most likely will be relegated. Swindon Town fresh off a loss against Torquay United where they rested several starters were happy to prove their skill going off on the squad.

"We are working well together and I feel were only one or two pieces away from competing at the next level and we should be able to get promoted this season. The guys are playing on an unbelievable level and Peter Brown is playing like a killer. I am so proud of these guys." Spoke Starks.

Leading the nPower League 2 : Swindon Town

                    Swindon Town (4-0-1)
                    1st in nPower League 2

Through series of smart wheelings and dealings this team is on the map in a big way. Not taking no in orginally declined deals they managed to assemble the team in such a way that it is nearly unbeatable as evidenced by their September first victory in a 4-0 whalloping. This team is deadly and they are cutting through League 2 like it's nothing and it just might be.

With a third round birth in the Carling Cup and heading into the second round of the Johnstone Paint Cup to face Morecambe (a League 2 opponent) they are proving that last season is behind them and they are hitting the gas pedal in a big way. Their scouting team seemed to find a gem in the dirt with the Peter Brown signing and the improved depth and the gaffer, Starks playing his players on the pitch better this team is one that no one wants to be staring at from across the pitch. Holding the most goals scored in the league (10) and the biggest differential (5), their only loss coming in a game where they benched several starters to rest up.

With the transfer window closed until December, Starks has his squad set and is working on the depth department with a scout in England and the Peoples Republic of China scouring for talent they are prepared for this. Starks has only had to deal with one injury (Aden Flint) something that traumatized this squad last year, but improved line up management by Starks is setting his team up for promotion. Flint is already recovered and is in the final days of therapy to be cleared as 100% fit.

The run ends as West Brom slips past Swindon Town
Takes a goal in the 119th minute to lead to a win

Swindon Town had everything going for them, two early goals that put them up 2-0 under twenty minutes into the opening half. That wouldn't hold up through the first half as they would surrender two to West Brom, including a bad error by Smith who on a goal kick went to pass the ball to a defender when it was intercepted by an attacker and kicked into the opposite corner for an easy goal. 2-2 heading into the second half.

Things got bad as they would fall down 2-3, needing a goal that would finally come on a Peter Brown cross that would be headed into the goal to tie the game up. That draw would hold until the second extra time period. There in the 119th minute, the defense couldn't hold off two strikers and after a beautiful pass the striker sliced the ball into the net sending the players into a flurry of excitement. Getting just outside of the penalty box, the referree seemed set on calling the game as soon as a West Brom defender tapped the ball the whistle was blown leading Starks to come off the sidelines to argue, but there was nothing he could do.

His side would fall 3-4 after very nearly pulling a very improbable upset bid. It had been a good run making it to the third round, and Swindon Town still has the Johnstone Paint and FA Cup to look forward to. This team can be very scary and Tyler Starks has them groomed to win.

Morecambe rests several starters as Swindon Town pulls a clean sheet

Morecambe didn't really have much plans to advance further or so it seemed with all besides a small handful of starters resting, it gave Swindon Town a chance to pull out early and they never looked back. Paul brown knocking in two goals, and Esajas getting a pair of his own, including one from near the middle of the field in an insane show of his abilities, it was a rare shot and none the less it was an embarrassment for the defense.

"I was disappointed they wouldn't field a proper unit to play us. It's disrespectful, for us and them. Our team is heads and shoulders above theirs regardless, but at least give us someone.. that can at least make it interesting." Spoke an annoyed Starks whom had no issues tearing apart the opposition just like his team did on the pitch for ninety minutes. The Robins won 6-0, in another big lopsided victory against an nPower League 2 opponent as their unit as a whole continues to improve past what a League 2 team should be.

Robins hold onto top spot in League 2
                          Swindon Town (6-1-3) 19 Points

The Robins can be proud of their performance in yet another strong month where they would drop two games but continuing onward in their tournaments and keeping a hold on the top spot in the League is a great thing and this squad is in a terrific position for promotion. Hereford is tied in points, but thanks to one more win, Swindon Town gets the top spot.

The Robins would go on a two game losing streak, concluding with their 1-2 defeat to Northampton that would undoubtably motivate their squad. Their opponent in the Johnstone Paint Cup was Morecambe, whom they faced this month and beat in a 3-0 decision for league play purposes. Undoutably spawning the team benching starters in favor of resting them up.

The Robins also announced signing Liao from the People's Republic of China. This move spawned the squad to list Akwol for transfer with the option of a loan if they so choose to and are unable to find a suitor. They also removed Lanzano from the transfer list, planning to use him to groom Liao until he is ready for the full time starting job. Liao has the potential to join football's elite and the team was excited to jump on a player of his caliber.

Robins struggle through middle of the month but turn it on to close month
Swindon Town Robins (9-1-6) 28 Points
                            Fourth in nPower League 2

Draws are never at all a bad thing, but the Robins seem incapable of drawing some of their losses which in turn knocked them from the top spot, falling out of the promotion zone all the way to fourth. They are only two points removed from the top spot. They start next month with an easy fixture featuring Acrington Stanley Football Club, that is sitting at eighteen in the league, than they face two top teams in AFC Bournemouth (Third) and Southend United (Tenth). This will be a big statement month. If they want to have the impact in this league to earn that elusive promotion they will need to win every game this month or at least force draws. If they lose two of three they could easily be out of the playoff range.

The Robins play Hereford this month in what should be a terrific match. Hereford is fifth while Swindon Town is at fourth. That will count towards the J. Paint Trophy in the quarter finals. Oddly enough of all the teams remaining, Torquay United a squad that is persistently at the bottom of the league is still alive and kicking with a match against Barnsley for a trip to the Area Semi Finals.

As the next transfer window draws nearer, the eye is on Starks to gather more depth for his squad. They need it. Still weak at the defensive end of the pitch, they will need to work from the back forward. If they can shore up their defense this team will be virtually unbeatable with their young chinese goal tender stepping up this team could be kept together for a long time if the youth continue to develop at the pace they have been. They play exciting football to say the least but it seems they lose the will to compete once the opposition puts any points up which ends up killing them.

Swindon Town holds off late rally and escapes with 3-1 decision.

When Tavares punted the ball into the corner of the net in the 84th minute the decision was made. The Robins would continue onward while rival Hereford would fall. In the second half, Hereford made all three substitutions to bring in offensive players at midfield allowing the late goal to flourish when Tavares intercepted a pass and drove inside of the penalty box before finishing off the run with a goal.

Liao would surrender one goal to Hereford, on a slow roller when caught out of position. Devera continues his form struggles. The captain has been having big struggles and just needs to pull himself out of the hole he is in. Tavares for having two goals and solid defensive contributions would be named man of the match. The other goal coming from defenseman, Lamas on a corner kick. He would head the ball in easily at the time to put them up 2-0.

Oxford United slam injury racked Robins

An early penalty called on Caddis set up an early goal that would turn into a volley goal midway through the first half that would be all that they would need to knock off the Robins. The Robins fall in the first round for the first time all season and remain alive in only one competition, the J.Paint Trophy where they will face no other than Oxford United in a rematch. Except that will be for the right to advance to advance to the Area Final and come within two games of winning the elusive cup. Only three teams remain from League 2, Swindon Town, Oxford United and Torquay United.

Oxford would see ontop of the Robins top striker being out, they would knock out Tavares and their other starting striker, Benyon. Tavares would be suffering from a pulled calf, while Benyon hyper extended his knee. With a game coming up on the first they will have a patchwork squad that will hope to keep themselves a float in the second league.
