Notes: Three fantastic quarterfinal matchups with big name teams....then there is SUI-USA. A battle of the up and comers that have fared well so far in this World Cup. As expected, France woke up from sleep walking through their qualification process and barely making it into the tournament to now occupying a spot in the quarter finals. If the United States are to make a run ever for at least a chance in the third-place match, this is the year. They need to find a way passed Switzerland, but they've been challenged already this tournament and come away successful. Could this be their tournament?

Notes: Spain easily dispatched of England to bring themselves into a match with Switzerland. Consider Spain favorites to not only advance to the final, but take home the World Cup trophy again to continue world dominance. Germany grabbed a solid 2-1 win over France to get themselves ready for host-killers Belgium. The Belgians took care of Brazil 2-0 in one of the biggest shocks of the World Cup thus far. The only way that is topped is if Switzerland sneaks by Spain, but I wouldn't count on that.

Notes: Wow, Spain are killing it right now. Germany will have a tough time containing this potent, in-form Spanish attack. Who needs forwards when you can score at will playing with 7 midfielders and 3 defenders?!?! Germany, on the other hand has had a solid tournament. Nothing too flashy, but they've done enough in each match so far. Will we see a high scoring World Cup Final for once? As for the Third Place match, these two nations will showcase what small countries can do if all the stars align. Both teams have made a wonderful run in the tournament and with a win this will be the best ever finish for either side at a World Cup. Either way this ends, though, will be Switzerland's best ever performance.

Third Place Result

Belgium 2-1 Switzerland

Notes: This has officially been Belgium and Switzerland's best ever World Cup finishes in third and fourth respectively. Both teams were giant killers in the earlier rounds of the knockout stage. Switzerland delivered the knockout blow to Argentina in the Round of 16 (2-1) and Belgium took out Brazil in the Quarterfinal Round (2-0).

AFC: Malaysia, India, Kuwait, Oman (ranked lowest to highest)

CAF: Equatorial Guinea, Togo, Gambia, Gabon (ranked lowest to highest)

CONCACAF: out of consideration as I just went through this Confederation

CONMEBOL: Venezuela, Chile (ranked lowest to highest)

OFC: American Samoa, Tahiti, New Caledonia (ranked lowest to highest)

UEFA: Wales, Poland, Ireland, Israel (ranked lowest to highest)

I already had your vote cast before I typed that up!!

Yea, I thoroughly enjoyed playing in the World Cup. The games seemed much more exciting and it was nearly impossible to hold a lead. I still can't believe I had a chance to advance going into the last match with Switzerland! Everything was working out to plan, too, with France taking care of Colombia. All I needed was to scrape out a win. I had the Swiss on the ropes on numerous occasions, however couldn't find the goal...and they were just fine with a draw. I entered all out attack mode with 5 mins to play and that's when my defense was easily unlocked.

Anyway, there was never a moment of shame during this WC run.

Onwards and upwards!
