I think that is why I'm having so much fun doing this. I am reliving my teenage/young adult years.Comment

DALE EARNHARDT HITS THE JACKPOT IN LAS VEGAS
Dale Earnhardt took the lead from pole-sitter Jeff Gordon on lap 12 during yellow flag pit stops. He would never look back and hold off a late charge from Bobby Labonte to take home the inaugural race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Fans were treated to very good racing throughout the field and the future for the Winston Cup Series in Vegas looks bright just like the lights from the strip on Fremont Street.
Kenny Irwin Jr. was the rookie of the race starting in 3rd and finishing there as well. Steve Park also came home with another top-10 in his rookie campaign. This year's rookie competition seems to be shaping up to be a real treat to watch unlike last years domination of the class by Mike Skinner.
There were no DNF's as all cars were running at the end of the race. Next stop for the Winston Cup Series is the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the running of the Primestar 500. Join us there for all the action!Last edited by sgf83; 08-06-2020, 02:20 PM.Comment

Re: The Career Of Steve Fulton(Nascar Racing 2002 Season) 2nd Attempt
BAHARI RACING WEEKLY RECAP
Las Vegas, NV | Race 3/33
START: 4th | FINISH: 29th
We came into Las Vegas really confident as we had back to back top-10 finishes to start the season. We are still going off last years owner points for qualifying so we are still locked in through week 5. So we went straight to work on race setup. We were slow in the first practice only managing to run 35th quickest.
In qualifying I ran nearly the same as I did in practice but the AI really slowed down and I was able to get 4th place. I overdrove lap 2 going for the pole but slowed way down because of it. We had a great starting spot though so we were very excited for Sunday. Final practice was just spent seeing how far our tires could go and we never really fell off on speed much. We only managed a 38th place speed in Happy Hour.
The race was very nerve racking at first we dropped to 15th and seemed to be running there fine until the caution flew. We pitted with the rest of the field and I overshot the pit and would restart 43rd. We just didn't have a good car on the short run but long runs we were decent. We were able to climb back to 29th. While we weren't happy with that I feel we probably realistically could have ran in the top-20 without the pit road error.
Next week we go to the Atlanta Motor Speedway where I failed to qualify with Fulton Motorsports last spring so we are hoping to get a test session at the track mid-week to prepare. Thanks for tuning in this week and we will see you in Atlanta!

Re: The Career Of Steve Fulton(Nascar Racing 2002 Season) 2nd Attempt
Quite the start to the season for #3! Sucks that the pit road error cost you a pretty decent day, but making those mistakes is better than not making the race altogether!Comment

JEREMY MAYFIELD GETS FIRST CAREER NASCAR WINSTON CUP SERIES WIN
Driver of the #12 Mobil 1 Ford Taurus Jeremy Mayfield earned his first career NASCAR Winston Cup Series win at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Primestar 500. Jeremy's pit crew was able to get him out first during green flag pitstops and he led the final 22 laps on his way to the victory. Dale Earnhardt was the pole-sitter and he came home 3rd and Terry Labonte who led the most laps wound up in 7th spot after a poor pit sequence.
Rookies Steve Park, Kenny Irwin Jr., and Jerry Nadeau all finished in the top-10. Park took home 'Rookie Of The Race' honors though with a 6th place finish.
There were no caution flags and all 43 starters were running at the end of the race. Next week we head to 'The Lady In Black' for the TranSouth Financial 400 from Darlington Raceway. Hope to see you there!Comment

Re: The Career Of Steve Fulton(Nascar Racing 2002 Season) 2nd Attempt
BAHARI RACING WEEKLY RECAP
Atlanta, GA | Race 4/33
START: 34th | FINISH: 33rd
Atlanta Motor Speedway, one of the fastest tracks on the circuit. We missed the spring race here last year so we were already going to outperform that just by racing. We went out in practice and laid down a qualifying run that was 18th fastest in practice but it was on the edge so backing it up was going to be iffy.
We would slow down more than anticipated in qualifying as we were only good enough for a 34th place starting spot for the race. We had worked on race stuff in the first practice and couninued into Happy Hour and got a decent long run car that was 23rd fastest in final practice.
We ran a clean uneventful LONG green flag run and were running in 24th position when it was time for dreaded green flag pit stops. I practiced getting into the pits in Happy Hour but I still goofed by over-shooting my pit again. Cost me some time on the track and the result was a disappointing 33rd. We were definitely catching back up and passing cars up until the checkered flag fell. I think we probably could have ran top-25 easily without the miscue. Oh well, we will continue to work on that moving forward.
-------------------------
The next race is in Darlington, one of the hardest tracks on tour. I actually like racing there if the car is drivable so we will see. We are locked in still so no worries for qualifying.

JEFF BURTON WINS AT THE TRACK TOO TOUGH TO TAME
Jeff Burton was able to get off pit road first and lead the final 24 laps of the TranSouth Financial 400 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday. Pole-sitter Bobby Labonte was able to lead the first 44 laps but his crew was unable to get the job done on pit road and he was relegated to a 2nd place finish. Last weeks winner Jeremy Mayfield followed his first win up with a strong 3rd place finish and is really off to a great start in 1998.
Jerry Nadeau was in the top-10 once again with a 10th place finish and edged out fellow rookie Kenny Irwin Jr. for 'Rookie Of The Race'. Irwin finished in the 12th position which is a good run at such a tough track. Another rookie Kevin Lepage had his best run of his young career with a respectable 18th place finish.
There were 2 cautions that slowed the race for 7 laps and there were no DNF's in the race. Next week the series heads to the Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 500. Geoff Bodine is your defending race champion. We look forward to all the short track action from Thunder Valley.Last edited by sgf83; 08-08-2020, 09:46 AM.Comment

Re: The Career Of Steve Fulton(Nascar Racing 2002 Season) 2nd Attempt
BAHARI RACING WEEKLY RECAP
Darlington, SC | Race 5/33
START: 29th | FINISH: 9th
The 'Track Too Tough To Tame' or 'The Lady In Black', no matter what you call her she is one of the oldest and toughest tracks on the circuit. We looked forward to racing there this week and the attitude in the garage area was very upbeat. We were locked in so we laid down a quick mock qualifying run and then got working on race setup. We were only able to get 27th quick in practice but we did have a good long run car.
In qualifying I just wanted to put down a clean lap. I knew I was no threat for the pole or a top-10 so we just took it nice and easy. We would be starting the race in the 29th position which is a drastic improvement over my qualifying results here last year with my team.
The race had a quck caution early on and while the field went to the pits we decided to stay out to get 5 bonus points. Well I didn't pass the leader before the line so I had to stay out for the next lap to get the points. One problem, that means I couldn't pit. We were sweating now as the only one with worn tires but they were only about 10 laps old.
We surprisingly held the lead for a few laps then let the leaders by and ran 3rd for a little bit. We then fell back to about 10th place and I thought we would freefall. In contrast we were able to keep up with the lead cars and even repass Dale Jarrett and ran 9th until the final caution flew with just over 20 laps to go. It was pit stop time, but at least it was under the yellow flag this time but we still needed to execute.
I hit all my marks and the crew did their part and we came out 11th. YES!!!! We finally got that monkey off our back hopefully! We restarted with some lap cars to the inside so the last 20 or so lap run was very chaotic but we managed to pass a couple cars and hold on for a 9th place run at Darlington. It wasn't a fluke run either, once we got the track position we stayed up there. I'm proud of the team and look forward to coming to the track week in and week out.
----------------------
Next up is Bristol and we had a good qualifying run there last spring. Maybe we can make some noise and get into the Bud Shootout for next year! We are locked in still as we sit 15th in the Point Standings!

Glad you nailed a pit stop, great performance overall at Darlington! 15th in the standings through five races is a pretty solid start with the new team.Comment
