JEFF GORDON CONQUERS THE MONSTER MILE IN DOVER DELAWARE

    Dover, DE | Race 12/32

Jeff Gordon's "Rainbow Warriors" team was able to get him off pit road first when the field made their last green flag stops of the day with 44 laps to go and he never looked back. It was Gordon's second victory on the season and his 4th career win at Dover Downs International Speedway. Dale Jarrett led the most laps but a dropped jack on the last pit stop ruined his day.

David Green was your Rookie of the Race coming home 9th for his first career top-10 finish. It has been a rough introduction into NASCAR's Winston Cup Series for the young driver so it's good to see him have a good run.

Next up we head to Pocono, Pennsylvania for the Pocono 500!

      NASCAR LIVE DRIVER Q&A

Eli Gold: This evenings guest is rookie contender David Green who is fresh off his best career run in Winston Cup a 9th place run at Dover. Dover is a tough track but you handled it well, congratulations David.

David Green: Thanks Eli! Yeah, Dover is rough on a driver but we were able to hang around all day and get a good run. We sure needed it because it's been a rough year for us.

Eli Gold: Yeah, it seems your team may have turned a corner. Is this a sign of more good runs to come?

David Green: Well, we are in the boat where if we make the race it's a good weekend for us. We have some sponsor income and it just takes some time to get all the pieces to fit together just right. Hopefully we can turn this thing around the rest of the way.

Eli Gold: We wish you the best of luck going forward and fans be sure to tune in next week after the Pocono 500 for another episode of NASCAR Live. Good Night.

      Driver: David Green
      Hometown: Owensboro, KY
Experience: Rookie | 1994 Busch Series Champion
Team: 96 | Caterpillar | Chevrolet | American Equipment Racing

        #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

        Dover, DE | Race 12/32

We were worried about Dover quite a bit. We didn't have a good test there and practice didn't go too well either but we managed to sneak into the show. We worked on race setup in Happy Hour and got a steady setup under us that we could drive without nearly wrecking every lap.

We just rode smooth all day and conserved our tires until the last green flag run after pit stops we really pressed the issue a bit. We were able to get up to 28th for a solid day for us. I think Dover will be good track going forward for us to have decent runs at if we just remain patient. We learned that from Bristol and these two tracks have the same surface.

It feels good to be making some races and having some good runs and hopefully we can keep it going and get into the top-35 in points so we won't have to stress qualifying so hard.

28th is a decent finish at Dover.

Interesting looking at the standings. You'd think (if memory serves, it's been a long time) that Terry Labonte would be doing better. Poor Todd Bodine, I always liked him for some reason, but he's really struggling.

I know 38th is still a long way from the top, but you're making progress!

Yeah, 28th is a WIN for us at Dover. We got a well timed caution late in the race to put on some fresh tires. We were decent on new tires but once they fell off we dropped off quite a bit from the field.

Terry has had some bad luck, it seems he is getting unfortunate with cautions alot. Todd is driving for a crappy team, but his paint scheme in the #35 Tabasco car is one of my all time faves.

As for the points going into the season the goal was to get top-35 and we are close to that so excited about that. Silly Season is getting started so there will be lots of news in the coming weeks.

RUSTY WALLACE HOLDS OFF DALE JARRETT FOR WIN AT POCONO

Long Pond, PA | Race 13/32

Rusty Wallace was able to hold off Dale Jarrett to score his first victory of the 1997 season. After Ken Schrader dominated the first half of this caution filled race, Wallace took the lead with 38 to go and never looked back.

The rookie of the race was Steve Fulton who brought his Ford home in 25th place.

Next up is a trip to Michigan for the Miller 400.

                    NASCAR LIVE DRIVER Q&A

Eli Gold: Welcome race fans, tonight we have Ken Schrader in studio fresh off a 3rd place finish in Pocono on Sunday. Great run Kenny!

Ken Schrader: Yeah it was Eli. We had a good car all weekend and were able to sit on the pole in qualifying. We thought we would be able to win but some problems with that last pit stop sort of killed that dream.

Eli Gold: You're in your first season with Andy Petree after several years at Hendrick. How has that transition gone?

Ken Schrader: Well, we have a good team here and we all know Hendrick is a top notch organization. It was just time we went our seperate ways. We have had some good runs this year and we are building for the future. It looks bright from where I'm sitting.

Eli Gold: Good Luck the rest of the way and thanks for stopping by this evening. That's all race fans, we will see you next week after Michigan.

                      #83 Fulton Motorsports Weekly Recap

                      Pocono, Pennsylvania | Race 13/32

The team didn't do any testing at Pocono so we didn't know what to expect heading into this weekend. We unloaded the car and were only able to get a 40th place practice speed. That was in qualifying trim since we are still outside the top-35 and not locked in to the field.

Qualifying we were able to match our practice speed and was good for 39th starting spot. Not ideal but when we get in the race we get points. That's the goal each week, get in the race and then go from there.

The race was smooth and incident free. We ran solidly around 30th all day and were able to pick up a few spots on a late run after a caution. For us to run 25th is great and we look forward to coming right back to Pocono in a few weeks.

When you run decent and make some races everyone gets in a better mood. From the owner all the way down to the guys who sweep the shop. Hopefully these good runs continue so we can get to 35th in points and be locked into theses races.

R+L CARRIERS OUT AS SPONSOR AT PRECISION PRODUCTS RACING

National freight shipping company R+L Carriers has pulled funding for the #1 team of Precision Products Racing. The move was announced after the team failed to qualify at Pocono. This was the teams 6th DNQ of the young season.

An R+L spokesman said "We just needed to take a look at company expenses and were looking at better ways to market our company. A lack of viewership of our logo was the ultimate factor in this decision.

PRECISION PRODUCTS RACING TO CLOSE DOORS

Team owner Richard Jackson held a press conference shortly after the announcement of R+L Carriers early today. In a statement read to reporters he stated "The team will continue for the rest of 1997 but will close it's doors after the season finale at Atlanta." Jackson said if it wasn't for his friendship with driver Morgan Shepherd he would close up now but he wants to give Morgan a chance to find a new ride for next season.

Morgan Shepherd had this to say about the announcement. "Well, we just haven't performed this year. Whether it's my fault or not at the end of the day if you don't make races and bring in money you won't be doing this for very long. I appreciate Richard for letting me finish out the year and hopefully we can have some good runs for him going out."

Glad you are enjoying it as I'm enjoying doing it. In case you didn't know there are a couple of websites with mods for NASCAR 4.

There is another site called Rubbin's Racin' .com that has some more mods for N4. The link wouldn't work for some reason but they have some good stuff too. Papyrus did an amazing job on those games back then. They are great even by today's standards imo.

Really glad to see Steve make a lot of progress since I'm gone! Obviously the two top 10s and THIRD (!) place finish in the 600 helped, but even taking those races out of the equation, it seems like you're in the top 30 more often than not. Hopefully you can continue that momentum!

I would love to get to the top-35 in points by seasons end so we don't have to worry about making races for the first five races of 1998. We are making strides it seems but qualifying is still very stressful.

I have raced a few races into the future just haven't posted them up yet. Let's just say things are going to get interesting the next couple of weeks.
