DALE JARRETT CAPITALIZES ON GORDON'S MISFORTUNE

    Loundon, NH

Dale Jarrett only led 4 laps today at New Hampshire but they were the most important 4, the last 4. Jeff Gordon started on the pole and dominated most of the afternoon leading 139 laps but once again was snake-bitten by some bad luck and had to settle for a 7th place finish.

Mike Skinner was your top finishing rookie with a solid 6th place run today. His team is really looking like it's coming together after a rather mediocre start to the year. He all but has the Rookie of the Year title wrapped up as most rookies are struggling just to make the races.

Dale Earnhardt was the lone driver out as he pulled his GM Goodwrench Chevrolet behing the wall and loaded up on lap 76 with an undisclosed engine problem.

Next week the Winston Cup Series travels back to Pocono for the running of the Pennsylvania 500.

NASCAR LIVE WITH ELI GOLD DRIVER SPOTLIGHT

Eli Gold: Good evening race fans, thanks for tuning in. Tonight we have Jeremy Mayfield in the studio. Jeremy had a strong 3rd place run Sunday in New Hampshire. Thanks for taking the time to be here Jeremy, great run Sunday.

Jeremy Mayfield: Thanks for having us Eli. Yeah, we had a good car all day long and were able to finish the deal for a good top-5.

Eli Gold: It's been an up and down year for your team. Do you feel like you have rounded the corner to being up front more often?

Jeremy Mayfield: We sure do, not just me but the team is growing and we have some plans for next year that should benefit the organization and myself. We are really looking to finish 1997 off strong and roll into 1998 with high expectations.

Eli Gold: We wish you the best of luck Jeremy on the rest of this season and for next season. Fans, join us next week as we will be heading back to Pocono, Pennsylvania. Good Night!

        #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

        Loudon, NH | Race 17/32

We didn't have any expectations heading into New Hampshire. The team was not in the best of moods after the recent performances. We hoped to get the bad taste of Daytona out of our mouths and make this show. We didn't test at New Hampshire so we rolled out like so many times before working on qualifying runs during the first practice. We were able to put down a lap good enough for 33rd in practice. Nothing to write home about but for us it was a good feeling.

In qualifying the car just seemed to grip the track really well and I felt fast for a change. We put the 26th best time down to comfortably make the show. This relieved alot of stress that had built up on myself and the team in the last few weeks.

Final practice is shorter so we don't get as much time to work on the car but we managed to run decent on the short runs. Our problem was the long runs. I knew it would be an issue in the race if we didn't get a few well-timed cautions.

The race started off good but as predicted we just didn't have the long run car to hang with them today. The cautions were not in our favor and we struggled home to a 39th place finish. Pretty bad, but considering the alternatives we will take making the race and actually running at the finish as a good weekend. Hopefully we can have some more success to turn the team morale around in the coming weeks.

MARK MARTIN GETS VICTORY IN PENNSYLVANIA 500
Jeff Gordon led the most laps but couldn't close the deal. Mark Martin took the lead for good with 15 to go and didn't look back. Only one caution flag flew which kept the field spread out across the triangle shaped speedway.

Mike Skinner just missed getting a top-10 and was Rookie of the Race.

Kyle Petty was the only car out of the race in the Hot Wheels Pontiac. Next weeks race is from Indy for the Brickyard 400. Be sure to tune in next week for all the action!

NASCAR LIVE WITH ELI GOLD DRIVER Q&A

Eli Gold: Tonights guest on the program is 2-time Winston Cup Champion and Texas native Terry Labonte. Welcome to the show Terry, how is the team handling the struggles of 1997?

Terry Labonte: Thanks for having me. We are taking it one race at a time. I guess we used up all our luck last year on our drive to the title. It seems this year we have just had more than our fair share of bad luck.

Eli Gold: I guess having last years title sitting in the trophy case sort of eases the pains of a mediocre season.

Terry Labonte: Yeah, we realize we aren't having the season we hoped for but knowing last year was amazing sort of puts things into perspective.

Eli Gold: Well, we wish your Kellogg's Corn Flakes team the best of luck the 2nd half of the season and hope to see you in Victory Lane soon. Fans join us after the Brickyard 400 for another episode of NASCAR Live.

                #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

Long Pond, PA | Race 18/32

We ran decent the last trip we made to Pocono Raceway so we were coming in confident but still a little worried. We rolled the car off the truck and put the same setup we had in a few weeks back and practiced for the race.

We should have worked on qualifying a little more apparently since we barely snuck into the race in 42nd. Either way we are in the show and that is the goal week in and week out. We did a little practice in Happy Hour and were ready to race.

The race was uneventful and the lack of cautions kept the field seperated but we managed to get a 30th place finish. Decent run for us and we will take it heading to Indy and Watkins Glen, two tracks I don't look forward to.

                FULTON MOTORSPORTS OWNER AT CROSSROADS

Glenn Fulton who owns Fulton Motorsports spoke with our Dick Berggren at Pocono Raceway this weekend about the future of his struggling race team. He had this to say about the situation with the team:

"We haven't been running well at all this year. We have had a couple glimmers of hope but without funding from a sponsor we just aren't able to continue this long term. If we don't get some results and/or some sponsorship soon we may have to suspend operations."

We asked about the future of his grandson Steve Fulton and here is his response:

"Steve has been driving his butt off and we just don't have the equipment for him. He has shown what he can do and he has a couple offers for full-time rides for next season. Without a sponsor though, this year may be in jeopardy for our team soon. Time will tell."

TEXAS TERRY LABONTE SCORES FIRST WIN OF 1997 AT BRICKYARD 400

                  Indianapolis, IN

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is an icon in the racing world. This week the NASCAR Winston Cup drivers invaded the historic track for the annual Brickyard 400. Jeff Gordon led the field during qualifying and took home the Busch Pole Award. Native Indiana driver Kenny Irwin Jr. who grew up not far from the speedway was making a start at his home track in part of his limited schedule to be run this season for David Blair Motorsports.

Dale Jarrett took the lead from pole sitter Jeff Gordon and looked to be on his way to dominating the race. That was until Terry Labonte put his Kellog's Chevrolet up front and never looked back. He led the final 41 laps en route to his first win of the season and first win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race was marred by a large number of cautions which hurt some drivers who had better long run cars.

Kenny Irwin Jr. was the rookie of the race coming home in 17th place. The rookie driver was at home and had a solid day in his NASCAR debut at Indianapolis.

Two drivers were not running at the end of the race. The Tabasco Pontiac of Todd Bodine and the #83 Ford of Steve Fulton.

                    DRIVER SPOTLIGHT WEEK 19

                    Driver: Bill Elliott
                    Hometown: Dawsonville, GA
Experience: 22nd Season | 1988 Winston Cup Champion
                    Team: 94 | McDonalds | Ford | Elliott Racing

Bill Elliott has been named NASCAR's most popular driver 11 times in his career. The Georgia native got his start in the 1970's in NASCAR's top circuit but didn't find success until the 1980's. He was one of the top drivers of the decade and took home the title in 1988. He earned the nickname "Million Dollar Bill" in 1985 by winning the Winston Million. He scored 11 poles and 11 wins that season and it is argued to be his best season of his career. This decade may have seen a decline in performance as he entered the owner/driver ranks but he is still a fan favorite at every track we go to.

                      #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

                      Indianapolis, IN | Race 19/32

                      Start: 41st | Finish: 43rd DNF

We were loose in practice, qualifying and the race. We were somehow able to hold on in qualifying and make the race. The car was near wrecking in every corner and with the long corners here at Indianapolis this led to slow laps and the field quickly drove away from me. We need some better setups and with no money to test we are behind the 8-ball each and every week. I made the decision to park the car once the leaders lapped me so I didn't wreck and ruin someone else's day in the process.

Darn! Always want to try and do well at the marquee races, so this is a disappointing day. Gotta get that Fulton kid to a team with some $$$!

Couple steps backward here after a few decent runs before - hoping that Steve is making enough of an impression in the races he does run so that if Fulton Motorsports can't continue, then he'll find himself in a decent ride.

Yeah, when I join a team with some sponsorhip or get sponsorship I will start testing before some races. Which I've already tested I'm just not allowed to use those setups to simulate being underfunded team. I really want to use them but I am sticking to the script!

On a side note, I am currently downloading some CAWs for WWE 2k19 and may do a writeup on my Universe on here.

Yeah, hopefully we get some sponsorship or a new ride for next season so we can compete week in and week out.

FORD TEAMS TO MOVE FROM THUNDERBIRDS TO THE TAURUS IN 1998

Ford officials have announced that all Ford NASCAR Winston Cup teams will be switching from Thunderbirds to the Taurus for the 1998 season. The Thunderbird body has been in NASCAR since 1977 and sure left it's mark on the history of the sport. The new Taurus body was unveiled today.

ROUSH RACING TO EXPAND WINSTON CUP OPERATION TO FIVE TEAMS

                                Concord, NC

In a press conference this morning car owner Jack Roush made an announcement about the expansion of his Winston Cup operation. Currently the organization has four teams competing with the 6, 16, 97 and 99 Ford Thunderbirds.

Next season a fifth team will join the ranks with the #26 as it's number. They will have sponsorship from General Mills with popular cereal Cheerios and Pop-Secret popcorn as the main sponsors on the sides of the car. Sensational sophomore Johnny Benson has been signed to drive the car for Mr. Roush leaving a vacancy in the #30 Bahari Racing Pontiac at the end of the season.

Johnny Benson won earlier this season at Rockingham and currently sits in the top-10 in NASCAR Winston Cup Points. He is the 1996 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year and 1995 Busch Series Champion. He should be a valued addition to help get this new team off and running.
