JEFF GORDON DOMINATES THE FIELD AT THE GLEN

    Watkins Glen, NY

Jeff Gordon took the lead from pole-sitter Bobby Labonte on lap 12 and cruised to his first career road course victory. A late push by Rusty Wallace wasn't enough to catch the Dupont Automotive Refinishes Chevrolet. The Rainbow Warriors did a great job in the pits all day to keep the 24 machine out front.

Mike Skinner finished 13th and was the top rookie in the race as three of the rookie contenders failed to qualify for the event.

Three drivers failed to finish. Ricky Rudd, Steve Grissom and Michael Waltrip all had problems that sent them to the garage area early. Next weeks race will take us to the Michigan Speedway in Brooklyn, MI for the DeVilbliss by Dirt Devil 400. Hope to see you there race fans.

          #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

Watkins Glen, NY | Race 20/32

          Start: DNQ | Finish: N/A

Ah, another road course. This meant we would be needing to pack a shovel in the cockpit with us to help the safety crews dig us out of the sand pits. With our default setups we were slow and had zero handling all through practice. I should have packed sunscreen as well as much as I was "on the beach" today. I am still sweeping sand out of the race car.

We failed to qualify as expected and are looking forward to getting back to an oval as we head to Michigan. I don't see us being even competitive at the road courses for a LONG time if ever. I just hate driving them, probably lack of patience. I have some new setups to try once I have "the funds to test".

I used to hate running/watching road course races too, but something completely shifted over the last few years. Love Watkins Glen a lot moreso than Sears Point/Infineon/Sonoma.

ADD TRIAD MOTORSPORTS TO THE LIST OF TEAMS IN 1998

Triad Motorsports is planning on making it's debut in NASCAR Winston Cup racing in 1998. They are moving from the ARCA/Remax Series ranks to the top level in NASCAR. They will have sponsorship from Pilot Travel Centers. They will be bringing with them driver Gary Bradberry who finished 3rd in the ARCA/Remax Series in 1994. Gary will be running for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors. The team plans to begin running at the Daytona 500 in February.

DALE JARRETT DOMINATES AT MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

                  Brooklyn, MI

Dale Jarrett started 5th but quickly overtook pole-sitter Bobby Labonte and led the rest of the way except when Jeff Gordon took the point during green flag pit stops. Dale and his Ford Quality Care Robert Yates Racing team have been in a zone in 1997 and are looking like one of the favorites to be lifting the title in Atlanta in November.

Mike Skinner finished 8th in his Lowe's Home Improvement Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing to take home Rookie of the Race honors again. He is really starting to show some promise this season and looking to get that first win.

Todd Bodine's Tabasco Pontiac lost an engine and had to park the car on lap 15. Next week the series invades Thunder Valley, TN and the Bristol Motor Speedway for the annual night race there. Action should be on the menu for sure!

                    #83 FULTON MOTORSPORTS WEEKLY RECAP

                    Brooklyn, MI | Race 21/32

                    Start: 39th | Finish: 42nd

When we started practice I could already tell it was going to be a long race if we made it in. I was confident we could get in since we had no trouble the last time here. I have thought that before and been let down so you never know.

Practices and qualifying went about normal. Slow and instead of fighting a loose car we had a tight race car this weekend. We could run with the back guys until our tires fell off and then it was all I could do to get the car turned.

We got lucky that the caution flew about midway through the race or we may have lost more laps. We were just too slow after about 20 lap runs. On to Bristol where we started 11th last time so maybe we can have a much needed good run.

DEI MAKES MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR ITS NEW WINSTON CUP TEAM

With the closure of Precision Products Racing at the end of the season the #1 is going to come available as well. Dale Earnhardt, Inc. has got the rights to the number now and will use that number for rookie driver Steve Park's Chevrolets in the 1998 season.

Pennzoil has also announced it would be moving it's sponsorship funds from the #30 Bahari Racing team over to Dale Earnhardt's new team. So, Steve Park will be driving the #1 Pennzoil Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in 1998 and contending for Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

BAHARI RACING ANNOUNCES NEW DRIVER AND SPONSOR FOR 1998

With the announcement that Johnny Benson would be signing with Jack Roush Bahari owners Dick Bahre and Chuck Rider had a diver search to begin. They had narrowed it down to a few Busch Series drivers and one veteran Winston Cup driver. They chose to go in a new direction that surprised everyone with the announcement that Steve Fulton would be their driver for 1998.

Steve is currently a rookie driving for his family team and struggling financially so this move makes sense for him. As for Bahari Racing they had this statement to make about their new driver.

Dick Bahre: Steve has shown he can run up front when given the opportunity. We feel we can give him those opportunities as we have fielded some good cars for Johnny Benson this year.

The team also was forced to find new sponsorship when Pennzoil announced it was going with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. The team will be sponsored by Gumout Fuel Additives for the 1998 season. So, Steve Fulton will be running his sophomore season with Bahari Racing in the #30 Gumout Pontiac.

                          Poor Derrike Cope...

Just kidding! Good for Steve, finally getting some critical resources and support. This is a big step in the right direction.

Nice to see Steve get a competitive ride for next season! Hopefully he can build a little bit of momentum here over the last so many races to take to Bahari.

Yeah, it will be good to use some custom setups and have the AI strength come down next year. Those two variables there should see improvement in results. Also, the Bahari Racing Team will be in the top-35 in points so I will start the season guaranteed a spot in each of the first five races.

I had in my mind either to go to Roush in the #97 for Chad Little or go to Petty Enterprises in the 43. I have some other plans for Petty's team and I didn't think Roush would be interested in me just yet so I picked a lower tier team that still had somewhat of a history.

I will post up a Season Preview for next year with Goals, Team and AI settings before I start the next season. I will say for a fact the race length will go down to 25% for next year because at a few tracks the AI doesn't handle cautions/pitting to well over the long runs and green flag pitstops.

                                Bristol, TN | Race 22

Dale Jarrett led 175 of the 250 laps at Bristol to claim back to back wins in the Winston Cup Series. Bill Elliott shocked the NASCAR world with his pole run on Friday and was able to hang in the top-10 all night and finish 6th. The race was filled with 10 caution flags for 45 laps and left several cars battered and many laps down.

Mike Skinner edged out Steve Park for Rookie of the Race honors coming home in 16th position. Steve Park looked good in his Dale Earnhardt, Inc. #14 Chevrolet after it was announced earlier in the week of his new sponsor and number for 1998.

Steve Fulton was the lone DNF as he went to the garage with ignition troubles on lap 15. His team has really struggled since the Coca-Cola 600 but he has now made plans for 1998 to drive for Bahari Racing.
