You can only isolate a student within the classroom he is in. IE put his desk next to yours isolating him from his friends. Even "timeout" is within the classroom full of students. If you isolate a student in a seperate room or a coat closet as punishment in any way without the approval of a parent or gardian will get you suspended or fired. It's civil rights violation. Schools arent in the business of protecting teachers and never have, thats why they have unions. Why dont they protect them? Because a teachers acton could cause the school and the district to be sued which is why the administration always distances itself from teachers. Remember all those teacher student sex scandals, who gets sued? teacher-school-district.

Re: Mike Leach fired
ESPN report on SC just now says the WR coach "refused" to comment on whether James tried to use his ESPN credentials to influence playing time for his son, but did say Craig was more meddlesome than parents usually are.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Mike Leach fired
I think something like this happened, but I'm sure we won't know for sure.
Adam shows up late, get sent/put in the garage. He calls daddy and complains. Daddy has been bothering the coaches for a while and probably has some contacts with the AD or other higher people in the school. Daddy makes some calls, puts a plan together, he will control spin at ESPN, they will begin the process to fire Leach. Daddy knows they want Leach gone and don't want to pay the $800,000, plus the firing with cause gets them out of paying the remaining money. Daddy hopes some WRs leave and recruits leave, enabling Adam to play as they don't have any other WRs.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
I don't think it's possible to take sides because of the motives everyone has in this case. Let me know when someone gives an account that doesn't seem typical. For example, a coach testifies against Leach or a non-starter against James.
Assuming we won't get that kind of account we can only try to find out who is being most transparent in the situation. Even that seems lacking. Everyone has a bias, but those who are most honest about where and why they observe things and draw conclusions are the ones who are most trustworthy IMO.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
Geez, he rambles.......
He brings up some good points & some added info. I don't think he's being entirely truthful. Maybe originally, he was put in the shed because of the concussion. But the 2nd day sounds like a punishment. Maybe he was being disruptive somehow during the practice before. Again, I would love to hear how concussions were treated before by Leach.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Mike Leach fired
I just can't get enough of this story. So many variables. A great "he said/she said" standoff with two sides that really don't like each other. This is how my wife must feel about her "Kardasian" and Jon and Kate shows.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
"Violating a civil right" sheesh, that is bullcrap. If a child's behavior is preventing another child from learning, the misbehaving child should be able to be put in "timeout." Same goes with having a player that is refusing to comply with team procedures and is blatantly doing so, the coach should be able to anything to remove or remediate the situation.
One more thing that's wrong with this country, more rights are given to those that are upsetting the cart instead of those that are faithfully pulling and pushing it.
1. Use "timeout" by isolating child within classroom setting.
2. If that does not work, use that phone on the wall in the classroom that dials directly into the principals office. Principal removes student from classroom and calls parents or gardian of the student. The reason you use the administrative tools is because you dont want teachers making up their own rules because only bad things happen when you do that.
If a player is disruptive in practice, you kick him out of practice. If it's a ongoing problem then you document it and dismiss him from the team. Look at how Oregon delt with Lagarrette Blount the last 2 years. They documented everything he did and used the administrative tools that were available to them. You dont take punitive action on your own. When you do, the school will hang you out to dry.

because it's so wrong to place a kid with a concussion in a shaded area with trainer supervision where he can chew on ice and take a nap. America has gotten that soft I suppose.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
It's mostly ESPN that's against Leach. Every legitimate news source, especially the NY Times has exposed TTU for what is actually going on. This whole firing has been orchestrated by the AD for a long time, and because of the clause in Leach's contract this gave him an opportunity to pull the trigger.Comment
