Really? I know he was highly touted and celebrated as one of our best ever but I thought that he was 3*/4* border. But I also was not following it as closely when he committed a few years ago so it is possible.Comment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Got Lindy's preview today and noticed an error. It says that QB Brion Carnes, 4* QB is the biggest miss and that "it had to be rough [for Skip Holtz] watching a 4* QB commit to Nebraska after being committed to the Bulls earlier" Actually Skip Holtz (inexplicably) rescinded his offer that he had gotten under Leavitt. Last I heard, his HS football coach had even banned USF from recruiting at his school. Just wanted to point that out. Is anyone familiar with the situation or know why Holtz pulled his scholarship? I never heard why, because he seemed like a great fit being a dual threat QB who could take over and run the offense the same way as BJ Daniels when he leaves.
Also, I would subscribe to the South Florida Rivals site. They got a new site administrator and he has been putting out a ton of updates in the past few weeks. Lots of good information for Bulls' fans over there.Comment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
I believe it was legal issues. He ended up choosing between Western Kentucky and Nebraska, so whatever happened, he was low on options.

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
From what I recall FSU just backed off from his recruiting all together, all of his early articles seemed to suggest he was FSU's to lose. Then again there were multiple coaches trying to kill the program from the inside (Chuck Amato & Jody Allen) so perhaps it was Amato who burned that bridge with Giddens. After Fisher took over the program from what I was told he had to rescind a lot of scholarship offers made by Amato, who prior had more say in how the program was run than Fisher.Comment

What do you think of these articles comparing the future of FSU and Miami?
State Of The Programs: FSU v. Miami
State Of The Programs: FSU v. Miami (Part 2)
As a FSU fan I generally agree with the conclusions of this article. Something just seems wrong with how Shannon is running the program and recruiting. From the FSU point of view with Miami ignoring Dade/Broward County and FSU having James Coley and Eddie Gran (both of whom have been nominated as Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com) focusing on South Florida it seems like the path back to the 90's should be imminent if FSU keeps cleaning up in South Florida like it has the past 2 years going into 3.Comment

Also don't need to see the same site telling me FSU is about to relive the '90s again. Heard that stuff the past seven yearsComment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Not bad, FSU has 5 on the list and I like their chances to sign most of the following players.
DE Ray Drew (I'm telling you now geographic advantage will be huge with this kid, he is an Ordained Minister who is extremely active in his church, I hate to say it but this is the one kid where I know Bowden would have closed the deal.)
LB Tony Steward. Admits he was a FSU fan as a kid and FSU is putting on the full court press.
TE Nick O'Leary.
OL Bobby Hart (St. A's loves Rick Trickett, FSU leads and should close the deal by Seminole Showcase)
WR Ja'Juan Story
CB Nic Waisome
DE Giorgio Newberry (Why is he listed as a T?)
DE Anthony Rabasa (FSU is looking to take at least 3 DEs)
DT Lonnie GoshaComment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Players just outside the 150
The back end of the 2011 ESPNU 150 had the most parity we have seen in recent years. The first rendition of the ESPNU 150 is out earlier than in past years, so there is ample time for changes and a chance for players to move in and out, particularly after we evaluate senior-season performances. Here's a list of players who just missed the cut the first time around, but could be poised to make the jump at some point.
Anyways, I'm curious to see how Buck Allen rebounds this year. He looked good on his sophomore tape and last I heard, Bama still led for him.PS: You guys are great.

It always surprising to see huge discrepancies in these lists. Brent Calloway for instance, is a Rivals 5* and their #9 player in the nation. ESPNU doesn't have him in their top 150 players, not even mentioned as a player who could make it in that article above.

Another example. Auburn commit C Reese Dismukes isn't in Rivals Top 100, but he's #52 on ESPN's 150.AUBURN TIGERS

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Yeah AA, Rivals has Dismukes all the way down at 222. I wonder how far down you have to go to see where ESPN has Calloway.
Initial Rivals 250 shows depth of class:
The talent on the field in the BCS title game between Alabama and Texas was phenomenal. Speed, size and skill were in abundance on both sides.
As their 2011 classes begin to take shape, it is becoming clear that those sidelines will continue to be populated with national championship-caliber players.
Texas and Alabama lead the way in the Rivals250. Texas has 13 commitments in the Rivals250, while Alabama is in second place with eight commits in the top 250.
Texas' fast start helps the tally for the Big 12, which has 31 commits in the Rivals250. Oklahoma is also off to a terrific start with seven Rivals250 commits, third most in the nation.
The SEC is right behind the Big 12 with 25 commits. LSU is pushing Alabama with six commits in the Rivals250, including four among the top 33 prospects in the country.
Breaking down the first five stars:
They are the best of the best. The players that are wanted by every program and destined to make a big impact at the college level and beyond. So what makes them so special?
We take a closer look at the first five-star prospects in the 2011 class.
