Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

In what has to be the least surprising announcement of all time, Texas A&M has officially joined the SEC. It's been announced by both the conference and the school - effective July 1, 2012.

    Here's a link.

I guess they just really don't want to play Oklahoma State again

I am reading that we will know WVU's fate by 5 PM tomorrow. At least that is what one "insider" is saying on the WVU board. I would take that to mean that WVU is being voted on tomorrow and it is unknown whether WVU will be accepted or not.

But, these "insiders" are wrong more often than not, so I will not hold my breath. I do feel like we will hear something regarding this soon, though, now that Texas A&M has finally officially been accepted into the SEC.

An aggie with some sense. Im glad the Aggies are acting as the catalyst for what everyone knows is coming sooner or later but no way do I think it is in the best interests for the Aggies.

Yeah, I'm ashamed to say that many Ags, especially New Army, really got caught up in the "Sip Hate Parade" and wanted to part ways with them.

Now they'll pay the price by never seeing their team win a conference championship again. Ever.

I highly doubt that they will never win another conference championship. If you believe that, then I don't know what to say other than go find another team to pull for. Personally, I think that this has been part of the holdover from when the Southwestern Conference fell apart. In any case, the tension between Texas and Texas A&M was never going to pull down, and it's probably for the best that they go their separate ways.

They only won one in the Big XII anyway. And that was in the third year. I don't think the road to the conference Championship is any harder in the SEC West with Bama and LSU, if Auburn moves to the east, than the Big XII South with Oklahoma and Texas.

I think moving to the sec was the best move. This will definitely help recruiting. They will take top recruits from Texas just because they play in the sec. They never had anything so powerful over Texas.

                        I highly doubt this.

This is something that has been brought up...

Was ESPN behind the breakup of the Big East? As some of you all know, the conference turned down an ESPN offer earlier this year. It was expected that the conference would sign a huge deal with NBC Sports in 2012 and would not renew with ESPN.

So, did ESPN kill the conference to keep this from happening?

I am not a huge fan of conspiracy theories or that ESPN is controlling all of this, but I do wonder.

Nope, I'll still root for them, even if they go 0-12.

That's what a lot of the experts think, but I believe that for most recruits, playing for a winning team in the Big 12 will trump playing for a mediocre team in the SEC.

Rumor has it that Texas A&M's new permanent cross-divisional rival will be Florida. If true, that means that Florida and LSU will no longer play annually.

You could extrapolate this to mean that WVU and LSU could be cross-divisional rivals. Maybe?

Supposedly, Florida was campaigning pretty hard to get WVU in the SEC (I am not sure why, though), so perhaps they made this sacrifice to get them in? I am really stretching here, though. We shall find out in due time.
