Your alumni are located there, but there are already, what, 5 BCS conference teams in that state. Being able to fill your stadium means nothing. That money doesn't help the rest of the conference. TV ratings do, and evidently they are very confident that ECU won't bring in good ratings.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
There are currently 4 BCS schools in North Carolina. Our ratings actually compare fairly well with UNC and State.

I actually feel kinda bad for ECU. Big East invites everybody but them.Football: Denver Broncos

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Come on, man. You know those numbers are totally skewed, right? Those ratings are only for games on ESPN against AQ opponents. And who were ECU's AQ opponents? NC State, UNC (twice), West Virginia, and Va Tech (twice). So while NC State's ratings get brought down in the local market by a game against Cincinatti, half of ECU's games were against in-state schools that are going to greatly contribute their own fan bases to ECU's ratings here, two more are against a top program in VaTech that is just across the state line, and probably has quite a few alumni in NC. I tip my cap to ECU for regularly scheduling a great OoC schedule (and I truly mean it - their OoC schedule is quite impressive). But those particular sets of numbers trying to prove ECU is a better draw than NC State and almost as good as UNC are all smoke and mirrors.
I am not saying we are a better draw then State/UNC, but it is a lot closer then you think.favorite teams

So if I make these changes in NCAA Football 12, will it break the game even more?Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
ECU is the only FBS school in NC besides NCSU that is football-first.
Also, I don't think it is a stretch that ECU is the third-most popular school in NC. There are tons of alumni everywhere and you see ECU flags whether you are in Greenville, Greensboro, Raleigh, or Charlotte.Comment

There are some rumors around of SMU trying to join the Big East in 2012 instead of 2013.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
They might like to try but I would hazard a guess that at least some of the five that will be joining want to wait and see if the Big East will be able to fend off any more possible raids from other conferences.
If the Big 12 was able to pull two more, say Louisville and Cinci that would make the Big East more vulnerable then before because likely most of the five would pull out as we have already seen Boise State negotiate for an exit clause. If Boise State was to pull out due to two more lost programs it would start the domino effect. That might end in Notre Dame deciding to pull the trigger and accept that open ACC invite for all sports. With them goes UConn or maybe Rutgers and poof Big East football is done.
I don't think it would be very wise for SMU to jump right in to the deep end. Best to wait that half hour and let this massive meal digestComment
