The Big Ten isn't going to offer any special deals. Notre Dame knows they can join if they want, but they'll have to share revenue equally.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they picked the ACC. Notre Dame wouldn't be able to stand the thought of giving in and joining the B1G after all this time.

Has anyone seen this elsewhere? I'm thinking it's not happening.

Be a good move for the ACC, but I doubt it's happening, at least not today.

If Notre Dame picks the ACC over one of the top four conferences, then its their loss. If they break independence, they aren't going to get any sweetheart deals on getting into the BCS bowl games or the future playoff. Plus they would be killing off a good number of rivalries (not that it means anything anymore; some peeps up top still might believe in the "mystique"). B1G might not make a better deal to Notre Dame, but the ball is still in their court.

Early indications are that this rumored meeting didn't actually happen.

            Shocking.

I should have staked out the ACC offices on Saturday. They are only about 10 minutes from my house.

Next time any negotiations are happening, please go remove Swofford from the property.

Boise State withdraws from the Mountain West after all, despite BCS conferences not really existing anymore. They'll have one single chance next year to get the BCS autobid. TV money must be the difference because they're no more likely to make the top 4 out of the Big East than in the Mountain West.

Sure they are. Big East strength of schedule is a lot better than MWC, especially at the bottom, no matter what people think of the Big East. Plus the TV revenue like you said. Even without a new TV contract, the 8 team Big East football deal was worth more than the 10 team MWC's entire TV rights package.

Yes, they're more likely to lose in the Big East, thus they're no more likely to finish in the top 4. The year TCU and Cincinnati were both undefeated, the Frogs were going if Texas missed the FG. They're viewed about the same.

Honestly, as much as I want to get out of the Big East, there is still a pretty good drop off between the Big East and the non-BCS conferences.

You are correct, though, unfortunately, in this "sport" perception is everything.

                          Some conference news:

Tony Barnhart said Louisville was next in line for the Big12 expansion on the Tim Brando show today.

Also, the Oklahoman obtained an email from Chuck Neinas in an open records request that stated Louisville was indeed "on deck" as the Big12s 11th member.

Take it for what it's worth.

Provided that Florida State would also come along, I could certainly live with that.

I'm trying to see why Louisville would be considered. If I'm the Big XII I'm going after top ACC talent before I touch another Big East team. It seems like a Florida State- Miami- Virginia Tech- Clemson combination would be a good way to boost the conference.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

Well if you look at Louisville they bring a lot to the Big12:

One of the most profitable athletic departments in the country, and certainly the best team not in the big 5.

Elite quality facilities across the board. I think so many people in the sports world, who don't know a lot about the University of Louisville, assume that because we're a metro-area school that we have shoddy facilities. Quite the opposite, Louisville can compete with almost any school in the country for state of the art sports facilities. I think the only sport that doesn't have some shiny new facility right now is hockey.

Our stadium is a competitive size for the Big12, and can be expanded further.

We have a great coaching staff capable of recruiting well and winning games. Louisville has been within a TD of winning in every single one of it's losses sans I believe 2 over the last 2 years. Strong always has our guys in the game, and that's pretty awesome considering our youth, and how decimated the talent level was when he arrived here.

Louisville basketball strengthens the Big12's basketball image. The ACC may end up being the king, but the Big12 will be in the conversation with Louisville added to an already pretty good line up.

National recognition for the Big12 in NCAA tourneys. Thanks to our new basketball area, the YUM! Center, the Big12's name will be plastered all over the place and visible during NCAA competitions scheduled to be held there. I know they've got Men's and Women's basketball tourneys scheduled to be there again, I've heard the Frozen Four is going to be there, and I think there are some others already in place or in the works as well.

Louisville isn't a football name like Florida State, or Clemson, but with Louisville you're bringing a better overall package to the table, and the Big12 isn't going to bail the school out just to get them there. Louisville is going to pay it's Big East exit fee, and come to the Big12 and just keep making money.
