Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

I think SDSU, confirmed they are still going to the Big East, but Boise has said nothing.

I like conference realignment in that, schools who previously were bad, that have growing programs can work their way up to an AQ conference, but I'd also like to see bad programs go down in the conferences. Too bad it's all about money...

Which is why I like my idea of soccer style regulation with 4-5 main conferences of around 16-20 teams. Then the other schools are broken up into regions and the winners of playoffs in each region get to move up, the bottom schools in the conferences get kicked out.

No way it happens though because the bottom feeders don't want to lose all that money.

And the "BCS" schools don't want to risk losing any money if they have a bad season.

Big East contacted Fresno State, UNLV, and BYU about possibly joining conference in football according to ESPN.

The Big Ten has real balance issues. The current setup is the most balanced, but makes little logical sense.

The East-West split is the most logical, but is entirely unbalanced. The East has all the core football teams minus Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Moutain West makes a shrewed move by getting the rights of some games back from CBS and can sell them to whoever wants them for additional revenue.

Boise is again talking to the Mountain West about rejoining. San Diego State isn't however and looks to be going full speed ahead with the move.

The Mountain West and Boise State are having ongoing dialogue about the Broncos staying in the conference instead of leaving for the Big East in the fall of 2013, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com Friday night.

UTPA officially accepts its WAC invite. The Great West Confernece has one member remaining and that is New Jersey Tech. So I'm guessing that league will fold.

The University of Texas-Pan American has accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference starting in July 2013.

If Boise does not go, I doubt SDSU will either.

And neither UNLV or Fresno seem to want to go to the Big East. UNLv would have been stupid to go, since they are a Basketball first school, and the MWC B-Ball has been the best West Coast conference for a few years.

I hope Boise and SDSU stay in the MWC. I'd love to see Big East just shut up and fold already. Nobody cares what there doing, they already ruined a great basketball conference.

I just don't know what San Diego State will do. I really think they are going full speed ahead with the Big East and damn the consequences. Plus they don't have a 1 million dollar bill due every July 1 to the Big West like Boise State does. That's 1/4 to 1/5 of their projected tv money already before you start paying bills for football trips. If they talk Fresno into going it might work out. I think Boise however has some serious decisions to make.

Nope, I want to see them hand over that name to the basketball schools that are leaving. Then they can go ahead and fold.

Honestly, the BE makes more sense for Boise, IMO. SDSU has a very good basketball team that they will cripple by moving conferences, while Boise's BBall team is kinda mediocre.

Man Boise is playing both leagues at this point.

Boise State is trying to get the Big East and Mountain West to allow the Broncos to retain their home television rights, to guarantee which conference the school ends up in, sources told ESPN.

                              I love this quote

Boise reminds me of the teenage recruit who is starting to believe he's the biggest star in town. It might be a pretty big letdown when all is said and done. Actually the sentiment of 'who do they think they are' is starting to seep into conversations with folks across college football. Let's remember this isn't Alabama, or even Texas Tech, we're talking about.

I might be crazy, but I think UNC is a much better fit in the SEC. I would actually like to see that and it makes some sense.

You get a UNC/Kentucky rivalry in basketball and a renewal of the UNC/USC rivalry. Plus a UNC vs. UGA/UT/UF and games vs. either Bama/LSU/A&M every year.

I know it would never happen but sports wise, it would be a lot of fun.
