Idaho Vandals to drop from FBS to FCS in 2018
The Idaho Vandals will drop down from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) for the 2018 season, the school officially announced on Thursday.
Pending approval by the State Board of Education, the Idaho Vandals will join the Big Sky Conference in the fall of 2018. Idaho is the first FBS school to ever move down to the FCS (formerly known as Division I-AA).
“I understand the magnitude of this decision and the strong opinions that surround it, both for and against, but joining the Big Sky Conference is the best possible course for our athletics program and for our university,” said Chuck Staben, UI president. “We have carefully weighed our options and concluded that competing as an independent with an extremely uncertain future conference affiliation would be irresponsible when we have the alternative of joining one of the most stable FCS conferences. The Big Sky allows us to renew traditional rivalries and offers our athletes the opportunity to excel, just as they do in our other Big Sky sports programs.”Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Memphis and Cincy definetly to the Big 12 announced before June 30. BYU was going to be in but the league's ADs decided they would be too much of a headache. So they either just invite the two above or invite Houston and UCONN to make 14.Comment

It's bump day!
Technically this is a non-change, but Big Ten football is keeping the same protected rivals for 2020-21.Conference Realignment Guides: NCAA 12-14, College Football 25Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
With all due respect, you simply don't understand the culture and tradition of these two schools, nor do you seem to have much grasp of the nature of Texas politics. The idea that the Texas Legislature would allow TAMU to go anywhere without the Horns (or vice versa) is preposterous.
The only way the Ags wind up in the SEC is in tandem w/UT--and that will never happen because the Horns look down their noses at the SEC's weak academic standards.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I would love for the ACC to get to 16 teams (adding West Virginia and Notre Dame) and then splitting into 4, 4 team divisions:
Division A
Notre Dame
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Boston College
Division B
Louisville
Virginia
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
Division C
North Carolina
NC State
Wake Forest
Duke
Division D
Miami
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia Tech
You play 9 conference games with you playing the 3 teams in your division, all 4 teams of another division, then 1 team for 3rd division, and 1 team from 4th division.
Example:
Notre Dame plays:
Boston College
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
North Carolina
NC State
Duke
Wake Forest
Louisville
Florida State
Then we have an ACC conference semi-Final and then championship game.
I know this is nothing more than a fantasy, but I would really love to see this type of format and these 16 teams.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Pat Forde wrote an article (in 2011) about the current state of the Big XII. In it he made a point that imo is equally applicable to the state of cfb as a whole:
Nobody is looking out for the common good. Nobody is in charge. Those with the most juice are exerting it solely on their own behalf, with disregard for all that is unique in college sports: tradition, geographic sense, nonrevenue sports, collegiality, regional flavor.Last edited by coogrfan; 07-10-2022, 02:51 PM.Comment
