By going to the SEC, FSU would be a middle of the pack program when talking about stadium size, athletic budget, and booster contributions. In the ACC, we are the top dog.

Not being in the SEC did not hurt us when it came to playing in the first 3 BCS title games.

The gentlemens agreement amongst the SEC schools would make it tough for 9/12 schools to approve FSU. UF,Auburn, Bama, UGA, SC, would not approve of FSU.

Also been stated that UF, UGA, and SC all oppose a same state school being invited.

FSU needs the SEC money though. The booster money has been down because of what Bowden did and all the payouts that had to be given to get rid of the horrible decisions. FSU can exist in the ACC, but the ACC has to be aggressive and add more teams. The SEC isn't as strong as people think and FSU is already beating team at recruiting. If FSU moved, they would then be able to get even more recruits by being in the SEC.

Sure they may lose 1 more game every few years, but unless they win all the games in the ACC, they won't be playing for a championship. The SEC would provide them the chance to still lose 1 game. Also the SEC would be watered down even more and you wouldn't have to play all the top teams every year.

Actually, it pretty much is exactly that. This talk didn't resurface until the LHN showing HS games stuff came to light a few weeks ago. I truly believe this is less about money than it is about emotion, ego and bruised pride.

Statement from Dr. Bernie Machen, Chair, Southeastern Conference Presidents and Chancellors:

“The SEC Presidents and Chancellors met today and reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment. We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league. We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M.”

I wouldn't say this means it won't happen at some point. Thoughts?

they probably looked at TAMU's contract with the Big 12 and didn't want to be associated with the breakup. Could see it happening in 2 years though.

There is still the meeting tomorrow. Just because they can't get in now doesn't mean the university still doesn't decide on leaving, though with no place to go, they'd probably keep quiet for the time being.

Wow......A&M really comes out with egg on their face if this is true.....

Still If I'm one of the former Big XII North Schools (Missouri, Kansas, Kansas St, Iowa St) I keep my eyes and options open. Obviously the Big XII puts much more value on the 4 Texas and 2 Oklahoma Schools. If you have a chance to get to a BCS league whether it be Big Ten, Big East, or SEC...Do it now! Don't be left behind when Texas and Oklahoma do bolt to a new conference.

As a Big Ten fan, I would love to see Kansas and Missouri come into the fold.

SEC is going to expand, just depends when. They want to renegotiate that contract.

I was a kid when that happened.

On the flip side I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC is just waiting to make a move on A&M once team #14 is locked up. Trust me as a follower of MAC Football a 13 team conference is an ugly thing.

The SEC may well be covering their butts by declining to act until TAMU makes the first move.

The best example I have to my personal experience was the Texas Rangers rivalry with the Kansas City Royals. They used to play in the same division and the Royals used to get the better of us. Then when the divisions were split up, the Royals stopped being our main rival and the Los Angeles Angels took over that position.
Yeah I understand that point, but rivalries are only going to develop when you play a team on a consistent basis, and on a rotating 4 team basis then each team will only have 3 consistent opponents. Just to kind of compare that too, I'll use Georgia since I am the most familiar with them, there are 5 opponents UGA plays every year in the division and then Auburn as our protected rival in the west who we've been playing every year since the 1800s without break except for WW1 and WW2 (just as an added fact with the Auburn rivalry: up until about 2 years ago the scoring difference between the 2 teams was about 3 points over 110 meetings). That is 6 conference opponents UGA plays every year, but I would only count 3 of those (South Carolina, Florida, and Auburn) as real rivals. So, there isn't even a guarantee that all 3 of those every year opponents would become intense rivalries.

The 4 team divisions just really destroy the tradition of the SEC. You break up almost all of the big rivalries that have been in place since the SEC was formed in the early 1930s, and even before then. The only rivalries that would still exist, in your proposed division alignment anyway, are Georgia-Florida, Georgia-South Carolina, Alabama-Auburn, Tennessee-Vandy. Yeah new tradition can be made, but it takes time and I don't know that you would ever reach the state the current SEC has (especially when there are only a few matchups that will ever occur on a consistent basis making any sort of new tradition take that much longer to build).
