I'm sure they will be a bit better this year, but seeing Nebraska ranked in the AP poll is a bit too funny. Then again, pre-seasom polls are generally worthless.

I don't know anything about his personality, I just know you wrote your comment immediately under someone talking about he's moved to WR. But that's cool.

The more I think about - or listen to other people talk about - the Kelly Bryant thing the more I feel he should've gotten a ring, but if he's not pressed about it, I'm not pressed about it

So if Gary turned down 300k to play at Michigan, what was he paid to play at Michigan?

The only way to stop this is to put the IRS and FBI on them. They can find the cash, high schoolers aren't smart enough to hide the money and not spend it.

Even if you pay them, there is no way it works as there will probably be a cap to keep conferences competitive and you still can't keep schools from paying cash illegally.

Are conferences all that competitive now? Maybe the Pac 12, but every other P5 conference has been dominated by the same handful of teams for a while.

Not every team, but most teams. Sure the teams that spend the most are usually winning, but mid level teams are able to have great seasons every so often. Without a cap, you could have someone like Bama buy whatever top players they wanted.

The only hope would be bidding wars which would leave top teams without money for backups and allow the 2nd tier players to then fill the next level of teams. Maybe volume would win over star ratings.

The main issue is the mid to lower level teams won't be able to pay players without committing a lot of money and they already have shown they are unwilling too.

Considering we are never likely to see a system where the schools can pay the players this shouldn't be much of a worry. We are more likely to see something like the Olympic Model, but that isn't going to ruin recruiting anymore than Emmert's way of running the NCAA has.

Miami at Florida 2024, Florida at Miami Sept 2025. Glad to see that scheduled, no neutral site. Wish we still played annually, but we all know the story there by now. That means Miami plays at Florida and Notre Dame in 2024 and then hosts both in 2025. I'm loving it. Here in a few years Miami also plays Mich St and Bama in the same year. Hopefully we continue playing two non-conference P5 teams moving forward.

And Florida still won't travel out of the South for a non-conference game until 2029. A full 38 years since their last trip. Incredible.

If they are playing Miami and FSU OOC annually then who cares? That should be good enough. I don't like defending UF, but if they did make Miami an annual game again then the complaining about them not leaving the south/state would be complaining just to complain. Right now it holds some water because they refuse to make Miami an annual game again and also play two FCS teams, but that would all change if they were playing Miami and FSU annually, imo.

True, but it's not like the "Big 3" are the same level as they were in the 90s, so if that's 'good enough', then ok. I'd like to see them do a home-and-home with say...Oregon, or Penn State, or UCLA.

The fact is the last non-conference game they played on another school's campus was 1991, when they lost to Syracuse. Sure the BCS has a lot to do with that, with everyone scheduling lesser opponents to look better for the computer.

But with the playoff I'd like to see everyone, not just Florida, play tougher games. It'd be more impressive for Florida to say "We went to LA and beat USC" than "UT Martin came to our stadium and we put up 70 points"

It matters because travel can affect teams. They don't have to fly anywhere except for road conference games. Playing UM every year would help the argument, but FSU plays both and still schedules away games even before UM joined the ACC. It's just part of the attitude and another reason I can't stand UF fans. I just don't respond or walk away from most UF fans. I have family members who I won't even talk about UF with.

The requirements are coming soon. The P5 will require P5 to play all P5 games. This will knock the non-P5 out of the playoff and they will break away. Then they will move to a 8 game playoff and fix conferences so they somehow don't penalize teams for playing hard OOC games. Maybe a 4 game conference championship playoff if the move to 16 teams.

Like I said, if Florida would bring the annual game back then I wouldn't care about their other two OOC games. Some people will still rag on them not playing out of the state, but I couldn't care any less about that crap. I'd rather see P5 teams, big programs, playing other big programs that have history between them. I hate that Florida refuses to make the annual series come back and I will rag on them for that. If they ever brought it back, I wouldn't rag on them for hardly ever leaving the state. I would rather see teams stay in their regions more often for historical purposes over playing someone else just for the sake of statistics. I don't care about Florida traveling to Oregon or USC. Those would be neat to see every once in a while, but I don't value that match up over Florida playing the other two major Florida schools. It's not just a Florida thing. I wish Pitt and Penn State played annually. I wish WVU got to play VT, UVA, Pitt, Penn State on a regular rotation to where every recruit got to play against those teams at least once, but probably twice.

Playing Florida State and Miami OOC even if both schools were 8 or 9 win teams would still be a tougher OOC schedule than the vast majority of the nation is doing. I am all for the random home and home with a team you don't play much. I reallyl ike Miami is playing Texas A&M again, Bama, Michigan State, and others, but I value them playing teams they have history with more like Florida, Notre Dame, even Nebraska or possibly West Virginia.

I know other people would rather see match ups like Florida-USC, Miami-Texas, Orgeon-Georgia and I agree those would be awesome home and homes and am all for them. My whole point is I personally believe that if Florida was to bring back the annual series with Miami that it would be picking just pick if you were still going to complain about their OOC schedule. I 100% understand other people will value traveling more, but it isn't as big of a deal for me personally.

I don't see that happening at all. The G5 and the P5 are not going to split apart. The P5 will never force each other to completely stop playing G5 schools. I don't ever even seeing them banning playing against FCS schools in my lifetime. It would destabilize too much and lead to so many smaller programs shutting down which is the exact opposite of what collegiate athletics should be doing.
