Re: College Football Off Topic
What did the other conferences get paid to vote for this? There had to be payoffs.
It's going to be the SEC and B1G schools, conference championship won't matter anymore.
Hopefully this speeds up the death of the ACC and complete restructuring. Big 12 can still exist as 20-30 schools who want to play but don't have resources to compete.

Re: College Football Off Topic
At least, it still is top 5 conference winners get an automatic bid. The 5th spot is likely going to come down to either PAC-12(2) or a G5 school. PAC-12 will expand in 2026. So, this year will still allow a top G5 school at the CFPComment

Re: College Football Off Topic
The Michigan ruling handed out is a flat out joke. So you mean to tell me that all Michigan gets is a slap on the wrist because "its not fair to all the current students for something that happened with someone whos no longer there". Okay, so what about all the times yall thought it was fair to punish current students of a school by banning them from postseasons, vacating wins and taking away national titles because of something someone no longer associated did 15 years ago?Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/Dead2009/

I know a lot of fans don't like the new world order of CFB+NIL and the mega transfer portal but if it leads to more stories like the Indiana Hoosiers story, sign me up for more. I think it's good for CFB.

Re: College Football Off Topic
Well the story is that if you have a school with a mega NIL fund then you can buy a roster an expensive enough roster to compete for a title. Unfortunately for all but a select few schools in CFB, they don't have the dollars to execute such a strategy. Indiana is using the same strategy that Ohio State used last year, and basically the entire playoff field. Which imo isn't much of a story, and it's not an option for most of CFB for this kind of story to keep popping up.Comment

The story is Indiana put together a true TEAM while other teams spent crazy money putting together expensive islands of misfit toys, albeit costly players who , while talented, are ultimately in it for the money.Well the story is that if you have a school with a mega NIL fund then you can buy a roster an expensive enough roster to compete for a title. Maybe Indiana happened to walk into the perfect storm, and this kind of year will never happen again.
Or this year becomes the norm and maybe next year's national champuon is Northwestern, or Syracuse, or Vanderbilt, or Rutgers.Mets/Jets/Knicks.👍 1Comment

You do realize Indiana has A LOT of money and even has Mark Cuban funding their NIL? They paid plenty of money for their roster as well. The biggest difference between them and someone like Kiffin with LSU is that Indiana prioritized experience more than raw talent when assembling this roster.

They put together a great team, obviously. It will be interesting to see how much their approach to the portal changes, if any, with the covid super seniors finally moving on. And before anyone somehow takes this as sour grapes somehow, Miami went out and got plenty of covid super seniors as well from the portal. A lot of their bigest contributors were portal guys with that extra year, like Mesidor, Daniels, Beck, etc.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

And Indiana might become a constant force to reckon with, as they are replacing their team full of 3-star players with 5-star blue chip recruits.

I'm sure they will remain a good program under Cignetti. If we have learned anything since the portal became a thing, modern recruiting services are really struggling with how to rate and rank players now. Talent composites aren't close to as accurate as they once were, and they weren't exactly very accurate before either.
