Ohio State: They probably get an A, although the secondary had some problems all game. Dysert is a decent player himself, but I don't think he's good enough to hang with a top program like we let him do. But the running game was great, the passing game was a vast improvement, the lines on both sides were great, even the linebackers weren't bad.

Re: Grade you team's first game performance

B - Offense (I want to give A) - However two turnovers inside (one deep in your own territory) really hurts this. Tyler Wilson showed he is the best QB in the SEC though, lost his #1 target and kept on trucking with throws to Gragg, Mitchell, McKay. Knile Davis is back and is running like a man possessed. He is hitting the hole fast and hard and making a 2 yard gain turn into a 9 yard gain.

D- Defense - You don't give up 24 points to #26 team in FCS and even begin to entertain thoughts of what is coming to Fayetteville in 2 weeks. This is all on Petrino for spending recruiting efforts on offense and not defense last three years. There is some highlights on the defensive line, but if you want to beat Arkansas, just throw it 5 yards and watch us turn it into a 15 yard gain.

A - Special Teams - Very little returns. Hit all extra points. Pinned them deep when we had to (except one bad shank). Our return man might be faster than what Joe Adams was (and he's just a Freshman).

Overall I am excited about this 2012 version of the Razorbacks, our offense is going to be impossible to stop (if we don't stop ourselves) and we might need that, because our offense is going to give up 30 or 40 to good offenses. I think we make some adjustments this week and we definitely have a better showing against UL Monroe, before taking on the daunting task of unthroning the Crimson Tide.

            UNLV.

The team fought hard and really tried, and Tim Cornett was a beast. However, the defense just seemed to stop trying in OT, and that led to a Golden Gopher win.

Offense: B- We had over 500 yards of offense but our redzone offense was pretty bad. Rocco made some good throws but he also had some innacurate throws. Sims looked really good for the one series he was in there for. We've got playmakers at the WR position this year. Our OL didn't really push Richmond around like I thought they would. We had a good performance but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Defense: B+ Other than a few big plays our defense did really well. Our secondary showed its youth but I was impressed overall by our defense. We'll see how we do against Penn State next week.

Special Teams: A After an awful showing in the Chick-fil-A Bowl game, our ST bounced back with a great game. We didn't have any kicks blocked. We didn't miss any FGs. We didn't kick any kickoffs out of bounds. We didn't give up any big returns. We didn't have any real bonehead plays. It was a huge improvement from the last couple years. With that being said, there is still work to be done but I was very, very impressed with our ST yesterday.

Overall: C+ We started off great with an early 22-0 lead but we didn't look that good after that. I'm hoping we were holding back a bit. We've got to start fast and keep going. We started fast and let off yesterday. We're not going to be able to do that against Penn State next week. We've got to play hard for the full 60 minutes. We coasted through much of the 2nd quarter. That's going to work against better teams.
Sums it up about as well as I could.

I would peg the overall grade as a B, however. We did what we needed to do, and Richmond was taking away the home run ball at all costs. Rocco needs to clean up some of his decision making - he threw some passes that would be picks in ACC play - but overall it was a solid performance for the Wahoos, one that can definitely be built upon.

                Texas B (37-17 Wyoming)

                Offense
Running game was good, except the interior OL got beat in the first quarter. Running backs were awesome, Brown and Bergeron each went for 100+.
Ash had a good day, his stats might not say much but he didn't turn it over and not a single throw was a bad decision. Very good.
WRs dropped some balls, and they failed to get separation against man coverage. Very good blocking though.
TEs and FBs were decent. Robo as a FB was okay, but some blocks were terrible. TEs blocked okay.

                Defense
This group surprisingly struggled some. They had trouble lining up correctly in the secondary and had some blown coverages. Tackling was bad-- not wrapping up. Good against the run. Very good on 3rd down(1/11). Got pressure against the QB often but could not get sack as Smith was mobile and threw the ball out as soon as pressure was there. Created turnovers and were very good on kickoff coverage.

Overall, I was pleased with what I saw. We have a long ways to go but all the mistakes can be fixed in practice. The field kicking game was bad, we're waiting on PSU transfer Fera to get healthy.

                  Ash went 20/27 156yd 1TD

Only a couple of bad throws though really. If he lofts that deep ball up into the endzone instead of trying to throw the thing on a rope, I bet Mike Davis runs under it and catches it for 6.

I agree with the B rating. The defense was a little too hyped to start the game and gave up that big play. They definitely got it going after the 1st quarter

I want see them put up big numbers vs. New Mexico, though!

                      Ohio State: A

Outside of the first quarter the offense looked great. Braxton Miller looked like a much improved passer. His accuracy was still off at times, but his decision making was good and he looked comfortable behind center. He also broke the single-game QB rushing record at Ohio State, not bad. Defense looked good for the most part. D-line and linebackers played fantastic. Secondary will be an issue this year but they did force some turnovers. They were bailed out by the many drops by the Redhawks recievers but overall I thought the seconday played well against a good quarterback, Zac Dysert.

Re: Grade you team's first game performance

I'm not sure that I can give it a letter grade, but I'll try.

                              Performance vs my expecations: A-
                              Overall Performance: B

I actually expected our offense to look much worse in the first game with Kiehl Frazier under center. Frazier over threw a few receivers and make some mistakes, but he looked very poised and confident in the pocket. I'm expecting him to look much better this weekend, after a big game in The Georgia Dome under his belt.

The offensive line is young, but very talented. The loss of Dismukes wasn't too noticeable and the addition of Prosch at FB is very noticeable. He's an excellent blocking back and was clearing holes. I felt like Tre Mason and O-Mac were excellent in the backfield and will only get better.

I'm disappointed with our receivers. Emory Blake and Lutz at TE were phenominal and they catch almost everything that comes their way, but everyone else was a bit disappointing. These guys are mostly highly touted guys out of HS, but they haven't developed very well. I don't question their work ethic as much as I do Trooper Taylor's ability to mold them into great receivers. Reed had a wide open TD reception and he wasn't aware of his feet and was standing out of bounds in the back of the end zone.

It's early and I'll try to be patient with them. We are missing a few from injury and suspension, but between the receivers and schemes, something has to change to get Frazier some better options in the passing game. I did enjoy us lining up under center running it and then hitting them with the play action. The offense will only get better.

Defensively, Van Gorder's adjustments and personality are all ready showing. The defensive line is as deep as any in the country with guys from the 2010 NC team on the third team D-line. We are just weak in the back seven and we allowed too many easy passes. Clemson's O-line blocked fairly well, but Ellington made some spectacular effort plays that really changed the game. We are just too under sized in the secondary to compete with big, physical receivers. We are lucky Watkins wasn't playing or it would have been much worse. I do love Van Gorder's style, though. It's been a while since we have had a coordinator with enough balls to dial up some of those blitz packages he sent at Boyd.

We have to get better in the secondary.. it's that simple.

Special teams were great. Parkey kicked several out of the back of the end zone, like always and he was 4/4 on field goals. From top to bottom, we have one of the best special teams units in the country.. homer bias aside.

I'm a little skeptical about Saturday's game with Miss State, but I feel like we will play much better and eliminate some of the simple mistakes. We were able to move the ball, but couldn't capitalize in Clemson territory. If we can correct things like that, we will have a decent season.

The QB and WR play was downright awful, I'd give that a D-. Running game got a solid B, and the defense got an A-. Offensive gameplan was a C-. Special teams B. Defensive Gameplan B+/A- they almost were burned in the 4th quarter with single coverage on the wideouts.
