There's no way Holgorsen can continue, right? I mean....I'd fire the guy at the airport, Kiffin-style. 864 yards? 42 first downs? Nothing would stop me from pulling the plug on that guy, with extreme prejudice.

Baylor is going to regret taking the starters out the 2nd half, 40+ points does not look good to voters who don't watch games just look at the box score. The Big12 is not very strong this season, they need to be mercilessly if they are serious about making a run.

Guy reminds me of a former WVU coach who shall not be named. Creative offense, complete lack of attention to D.

When he was at WVU, at least he had Jeff Casteel to bail him out on D, though. Of course, he has Casteel again now.

The sad thing about Holgorsen is that his offense now sucks. Of course, maybe it wasn't as good as advertised to begin with. We see the 70-point explosion in the 2012 Orange Bowl, but we forget about some of the duds the offense put up in Big East play in 2011 and some of the pitiful performances in 2012 in the Big 12 (14 points against TTU, KSU, and Syracuse! ... and much of that in garbage time).

This is why Holgorsen's job is secure, though. What an awful contract.

In reading the contract this is what is implied.

If West Virginia chooses “termination by convenience”, the school has to pay Holgorsen $11.3 million because the buyout language states “base salary and supplemental compensation for remaining years of Term.”
Just kick back and knock down another Red Bull, Dana! You've got nothing to worry about!

Holgorsen has proven himself to be an awful recruiter, it seems. He feasted off of the late Bill Stewart's recruits (Geno, Tavon, Bailey, etc....), but now the cupboard is bare, especially on offense.

All I know is that the o-line coach OU got from WVU has made a huge difference. This team is now tough again like they were around 2000-2004 when they were competing for championships.

OU isn't a contender this year but I like their toughness. If they can sustain this they will get the highly touted players and contend for titles again soon.

To revisit something I pointed out a couple weeks ago:

Last June, Phil Steele blogged about his Combined Experience rankings for 2013.

                  http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2013.../DBJune15.html

WVU ranked 124th out of 126 FBS schools. Ther fact that they're awful this season shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

I was speaking on the program as a whole. They're always poised to take the next step in becoming a "big boy" program but never seem to take it. Last night could have been that game.

I really hope pollsters don't do the automatic "you lost, you drop x spots this week" with Washington. They should go up, not down, the way they played Stanford.

Yep a neutral site against a ND team that has looked extremely average all year long. That is a game they have to win and they should. ND is down this year with regards to talent. Having Rees as the QB is a huge hit to us and the O-line is still trying to find their way.

I'm not going to complain about this W...

Is the Big 10 really as good as people think they are? I mean, yes Ohio State is good but not great at all. Northwestern hasn't played anyone remotely good other than Ohio State. Michigan can't take any game for granted now because they have a very weak defense, weak o-line, and an indecisive quarterback. MSU's offense is shaky though they are improving and their D is just unbreakable. Wisconsin is inconsistent. Nebraska needs help on defense, badly. Indiana and Iowa are average at best. Penn State, Purdue, Illinois and Minnesota are awful.

So is the Big 10 really that good? Or just an average conference? Remember, the Big 10 went 1-3 against the Pac-12 two weeks ago.
