Its a beautiful stadium. Excited to see how it looks after the renovations that are scheduled here shortly.

This time in one week I will be in the parking lot of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium tailgating as I await Louisville to kick off their season vs Charlotte.

So apparently a local school here, Wayland Baptist, is playing the first game of the season. As in, first game across all divisions and levels.

And that game is tonight. They play Lyons College, a conference team, in a non-conference game.

I had no idea they had football at Wayland and low and behold, Butch Henderson is the coach. Still looks like he has the same stick up his *** when he was coaching at Coronado and we played them many moons ago.

Happiness truly is Lubbock and the surrounding 100 miles in my rear view mirror.

Yep, they've been back since 2012 after a 70 year break.

I understand why the NFL would want to play in a foreign land and I see why Noter Dame and Boston College would want to play in Ireland but what is the rationale in a game down under ? Is it , like bowl games of so many years ago , a reward to the players , only now at the start of the season instead of at seasons end ? Will this become a yearly thing ? Why wasnt Canada and Mexico first on the list of locales to play at ? In any event I'm glad the season starts tonite .

Out of all the foreign countries not connected to the US, Australia is by far the most interested in American football. Aussies have a lot of native sons playing in the states and the game is closer to Aussie Rules than it is to Rugby.
