Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
Penix should have the Heisman on lock. Nix probably has a chance if he can look great against Oregon State and outperform Penix in the PAC-12 championship. Harrison would have to put up absurd numbers against Michigan and Iowa to have a chanceLast edited by illwill10; 11-18-2023, 11:19 PM.Comment

Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
What a gritty, tough win against a good football team by UW.
I imagine they finally jump FSU in next week’s rankings.
Good win for Texas, as well. Missouri got lucky.Rice Owls - Houston Astros/Dynamo/Rockets/Texans - Arsenal - PSGComment

Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
The last play of the FSU game was hilarious.
North Alabama called a timeout to kick a field goal when losing 52-13 instead of just letting the clock run out. Florida State blocked the field goal and ran it back for a touchdown as time expired.Comment

If Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Bama, Texas, and Ohio State/Michigan all finish 11-1 with 2 undefeated teams, the last two spots are going to be really interesting picksComment

Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
Edit: I love thinking about different scenarios.
Big 10 champion
The Michigan/Ohio State winner should beat Iowa and get one spot. Hard to see a path for the loser making it.
SEC champion
If Alabama beats Georgia then at most there would be three undefeated teams. A one-loss, SEC champion Alabama is getting in. A Big 12 champion Texas would have a case, but the committee isn't leaving a one-loss SEC champion Alabama out. Georgia is obviously in with a win, but could very well be left out with a loss.
Pac 12 champion
An undefeated Washington is obviously in. A one-loss Oregon that avenges its only loss is getting in. The irony is sweet that Washington State and Oregon State can potentially screw the Pac 12 next weekend.
ACC champion
Florida State is in if it stays undefeated. It will be favored to beat Florida and Louisville, but things just got dicier with Travis out. And the Florida game is at The Swamp. Louisville has been a great story, but I think it needs chaos to get in, even if it beats Kentucky and then FSU to win the ACC.
That leaves Texas on the outside looking in, unless it gets some help. Texas isn't going to jump an undefeated team and it's not going to jump a one-loss Oregon. And, despite the head-to-head win, it likely gets jumped by a one-loss, SEC champion Alabama. So Texas really needs FSU to lose and, just to be safe, wants Georgia to win the SEC.Last edited by LowerWolf; 11-19-2023, 02:52 AM.Comment

Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
I think the only thing that hurts Daniels is the 8-3 record. Besides leaving with an injury against Bama, he performed well in the other two losses. When you consider that Nix and Penix had similarly good seasons, undefeated or 1 loss, in a good conference, it's hard to bet against themComment

Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
One trip around UK Twitter last night/this morning, and the wick is getting turned up on Mark Stoops. Dane Key's father and Ray Davis' father tweeted some critical things. Then Ray Davis tweeted a critical comment about the number of carries he got.
I'm not on the Fire Stoops bandwagon, but we are staring at a 6-6 season, the second straight season that didn't meet expectations. Seems like this team cratered after his "pony up" comments. We need to develop a QB in the system instead of grabbing one from the transfer portal. That could be the plan with 4-star Cutter Boley coming in next season.
But another season like the last two could spell disaster for Stoops.Comment

On the other hand, I look at Louisville who, while not necessarily a national title contender, has been a legitimate threat for periods over the last 20 years. Kentucky certainly has not enjoyed the ACC and Big East schedules that Louisville has had, but we have also just seen a different talent level that each school has been able to bring in. So, I've always wondered why Kentucky couldn't be similar.Comment

Re: Week 12 Discussion Thread
Possibly, but guys have won it in the past with multiple losses. I don't know the stats of all 3, but he's reminded me of Cam's season with how he's had to do everything for that offense

All of that said. If the trophy were to be given to the most outstanding performer of the season then the answer is Daniels.
Daniels ranks #3 in passing yards, #1 in passing touchdowns, #1 in QB rating, #1 in rushing yards by a QB, #6 in rushing TDs by a QB.
There are only 25 players in FBS with 1000+ rushing yards this season. Daniels is one of them, and the next closest QB on that list plays for Army with 200 fewer yards in their triple option attack.
Penix and Nix both have impressive stat lines, Daniels has just been better. Penix is the nation's leader in passing yards (beating Daniels by about 100 yards), but he does not do anything with his legs. His overall QB rating also trails Daniels's due to having more interceptions and a lower completion percentage. Nix only trails Daniels by about 50 yards passing, only has 2 picks on the season, trails Daniels' FBS leading 36 TD passes by just 1, and he has an extremely impressive completion percentage near 80%. So, from a passing standpoint he's right there with Daniels, but he only is about 10% of the statistical runner than Daniels has been.Comment
