And the honeymoon is officially over for DeBoer.

Re: Week 6 Discussion
God, I love college football. Vanderbilt will end up being to Kalen DeBoer what Louisiana-Monroe was to Nick Saban in November 2007. Alabama eventually had to lose. It was going to happen, despite my not seeing this game being the one it became. But it goes further to prove that no one wins forever. And Alabama cannot stay at the top like they have forever. The ebb and flow of football and life will eventually cause Bama to have down years once again. NIL is making everything extra spicy. There will be much to learn from this game in the coming week.
The picking apart that the media is about to do to Alabama will be glorious and anger so many knee-jerk Bama fans that will be all up in their feelings. They wanted the win more than Bama did. Vandy is a damn good team when their spirits are high like they are right now.Comment

DeBoer inherited a top 5 roster. The deficiencies showed last week but they got away with it because Ryan Williams is insane.
The fact that the defense never adjusted to what Vandy was doing is a bad sign. Vandy is improved, but this is a bad loss

Time of possession.
Vandy- 42:08
Bama - 17:52
That's almost 2.5x more that Vandy owned the ball.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: Week 6 Discussion
I see your point. That is actually a great analogy. DeBoer tries to instill the feeling of family more than Nick did. The current approach could easily come across as being complacent or too kind [to most people] to players in moments where Nick would have been much more harsh or stern.
I feel that Kalen DeBoer, Kane Wommack, Nick Sheridan, Freddie Roach, JaMarcus Shephard, Robert Gillespie, Colin Hitschler, Maurice Lindguist and Jay Nunez will substantially tighten the reigns on the program and its athletes in the coming days and weeks. I mention all those names because the coaches on that list, aside from DeBoer, are all considered Coordinators or Co-Coordinators, Assistants or Special Assistants to DeBoer.
I have previously commented on how much of a powerhouse it has made Bama become, having such a plethora of coaches at the top of the program. I may someday have to retract my words, as having that much power being spread out across EIGHT coaches underneath the head coach, as opposed to having a head coach with offensive/defensive coordinators, then having other assistants, position and specialty coaches, assistant’s assistants, as well as managers and analysts branching out beneath them, it may be [or become] a case where too many people in the room are talking at the same time, which ultimately only confuses the athletes as they may not recognize or realize who is truly running the show. Only time will tell whether or not this becomes an Achilles’ heel for Alabama or if I am wrong entirely in this perspective.
I will never be above admitting when I am wrong. I actually become more strong by being wrong more than I like being right. Being wrong gives me something to critique myself about and build on, becoming a better version of myself than before, which benefits my family and friends but ultimately benefits me most.Comment

Poor comparison. That team in 07 was coming off a decade plus of mediocrity and wasn't very good.

That is a fair take, and you make a good point. But let us not belittle Alabama's actual talent in 2005. Shula did what he could to prove he didn’t have what it took to ever be a head coach again by becoming near-stagnant against LSU and Auburn. However, Bama still managed a 10-2 regular-season record, beating Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl and finishing 11-3.
Buuuuut all of that wouldn’t matter once 21 wins were vacated from the 2005-2007 football seasons [where any game was affected in which players involved in the not-talked-about-now textbook fraud/scandal had played a single second]. And yes, it was all as bad as it appeared when it hit the news during Saban’s first year in 2007. Shula allowed the players to do what they did while Saban reported it all and suspended them, handling everything properly once it was discovered. I worked at the University [while I was an undergrad in Psychology] during this time in Housing at Mary Burke Hall and was hearing some about it when it was going on, as I was responsible for the housing coordinated assignments and routine living condition checks (yes, that was a thing and likely still is) of many athletes, including all of the football and baseball players. Once the news was out, though, it took off. The news between Burke Hall and the Rose Administration building couldn’t travel fast enough for most employees and students wanting to know how their daily lives may be affected.
Many of the athletes [which involved 201 athletes across 16 sports] were living proudly unashamed until they realized just how detrimental it would be to their reputation and scholarship status. Working on campus was a rough time as every piece of paperwork was heavily critiqued by supervisors, and it was as if everyone was trying to defraud the university in some way. Many people lost their jobs; some didn’t deserve to, having to take the fall for more prominent or influential individuals who remained employed, all while those terminated were promised that things would work out when everyone knew they would not.
Despite all of this, I am still an Alabama fan. Not everyone in this life is crooked, but the ones who are really enjoy urinating in everyone else’s breakfast cereal.
So this concludes a trashy, though likely unsurprising Alabama story none of you asked for.Comment
